Ribadu Unworthy Of PDP - Edwin Clark

Clark said that bringing Ribadu into the PDP would dent the image of the party and also affect its fortune in Adamawa State, where he said Ribadu has no value, politically.

Fremost Ijaw leader and political father of President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Edwin Clark, has described Nuhu Ribadu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) new decampee, as not being trustworthy.


Reading an open letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu, this morning, he said the PDP would be making the biggest mistake of its life if it granted a waiver to the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to enable him contest the Adamawa State governorship primaries next week.

El-Rufai reveals Boko Haram Sponsors And "Kingpins"




All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasir El-Rufai, named former Borno State governor Modu Sheriff (recently defected to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) and Lt. Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, a former chief of army staff as Boko Haram "kingpins".

Posting the statement to his Facebook and Twitter pages, the former minister cited Australian hostage and crisis negotiator Stephen Davis, who alleged the above duo were key elements of the insurgency on Arise News.

Resident Doctors Remain Sacked – Health Minister





The Nigerian government has stuck to its decision to sack resident doctors and suspend the residency programme in teaching hospitals, despite mounting condemnations and resident doctors resuming at their duty posts.

While addressing journalists after the weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, Nigeria’s Health Minister, Onyebuchi Chukwu, said despite news reportage on the resumption of duties of doctors and the calls to reinstate resident doctors, the federal government had not rescinded its decision.

ALS Campaign Spreads to Politicians as Putin Nominated for Ice Bucket Challenge





 A campaign to raise money for research into the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) motor neuron disease and increase its public awareness is spreading through the world of politics and film with American director David Lynch having nominated Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Ice Bucket Challenge.
“I would like to nominate for the Ice Bucket Challenge Vladimir Putin. Thank you very much,” Lynch, known for directing the Twin Peaks television series, said after getting drenched in ice water mixed with a double shot of espresso while playing “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” on the trumpet in a video posted on YouTube.

Boko Haram Has 50,000 Members In Its Camp





Its been over 100 days since the abduction of the Chibok school girls by the Boko Harm Insurgents, the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, campaign group has claimed that the Boko Haram has up to 50,000 members in its camp and most of them are desperate to die.
The BBOG group which disclosed this in Abuja, yesterday, claimed it was quoting Mr. Ahmad Salkida, a Nigerian journalist said to be close to Boko Haram.

Aggravation of Sanctions Unwanted, but Russian Troops in Ukraine ‘Intolerable’ – Hollande





Francois Hollande said he does not want economic sanctions against Moscow to intensify, but stressed that Russia’s possible military presence in Ukraine is unacceptable and could trigger new restrictions, the French president said at a meeting of French ambassadors in Paris on Thursday.

“Europe will continue [to introduce sanctions], or it could even intensify them in case of an escalation [of the situation in Ukraine]. I do not want this, as this is not in the interest of France, the European Union, or Russia,” Hollande said.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Calls on US, EU to Freeze Russian Assets





Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has urged the West to block all Russia’s financial assets and banking operations until it withdraws the troops it allegedly moved into Ukraine, the UNIAN news agency reported Thursday.

“The sanctions introduced have not brought any results. In this situation, one of the possible elements to deter Russian aggression must be considering imposing sanctions on freezing all Russian assets and suspending all Russian bank transactions in European Union member states, the United States and G7 countries,” Yatsenyuk said.

"The restrictions should be introduced until Russia withdraws its troops, hardware and agents from Ukraine," the prime minister added.

UK Cabinet Minister Willing to Join Scottish Independence Negotiating Team




 Mark Hirst – A senior member of the British Government who currently sits in the UK Cabinet, Alistair Carmichael, has told a Scottish newspaper he would resign his position and join Scotland’s negotiating team in the event Scots back 'Yes' in next month’s independence referendum.

Carmichael, who is presently Secretary of State for Scotland, told The Scotsman newspaper, "It would be difficult to see how you could fit into a [UK] cabinet which was at the point on its way to becoming part of a foreign country".

New York director of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation (NAPF) Alice Slater has drafted a petition for the organization of an independent inquiry into the Malaysia Airlines plane crash in Ukraine and has called for diplomatic dialogue to resolve important issues.
“The international investigation should factually determine the cause of the accident and hold responsible parties accountable to the families of the victims and the citizens of the world who fervently desire peace and a peaceful settlement of any existing conflicts,” Slater told RIA Novosti.

The mother of an American hostage, Steven Sotloff, being held by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria has released an emotional, heartbreaking plea video to his captors. 

Shirley Sotloff, the mother of the 31-year-old freelance journalist Steven J. Sotloff, addressed her plea directly to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS and the self-declared caliph of the Muslim
world. Her son, freelance journalist Steven Sotloff, appeared last week in an ISIS video showing the decapitation of American journalist James Foley. The militant in the video warns that Steven Sotloff's fate depends on what President Barack Obama does next in Iraq. A day after the video was posted, Obama vowed that the United States would be "relentless" in striking back against ISIS.

Heartless: Man Strangles Wife to Death in Ibadan





Residents of Ajiyo Olokun Olunde area, Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Wednesday, woke up to the wailings of a middle-aged woman, who was strangulated by her husband, Saidina Yusuf. Nigerian Tribune gathered that the neighbours were alerted by the shout of people living with the victim’s family, while Yusuf carried out the dastardly act. One of the landlords in the area, Mr Yusuf Rasaq, who spoke with newsmen, said he was coming from the mosque around 6.30 a.m when he was alerted by neighbours.

Health minister confirms Ebola death, 2 other cases in PH



On Tuesday August 26th, Nigeria's Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu said there clearly was only one case of Ebola in Nigeria, now he's confirmed that the doctor indeed died in Port Harcourt from Ebola. His name is Ikye Enemoah.
 
Addressing newsmen in Abuja today, the Minister said the physician died on Friday Aug. 22nd after treating a diplomat who'd direct connection with Patrick Sawyer, the initial case of Ebola virus disease in Nigeria. He explained laboratory analysis on his corpse showed he died from Ebola.

Jungle Justice Father cleared of murdering drunk driver who killed his 2 young sons





David Barajas (pictured above) has been acquitted with a jury in Texas court after he allegedly shot dead the person who killed his two young sons, David Jr 12, and Caleb, 11. Barajas have been standing trial on the shooting death of Jose Banda, 20, who was found dead in his car right after an incident in Houston, Texas.

In accordance with prosecutors, David Barajas and his sons were driving home on the afternoon of the incident when they ran out of fuel near their home. Then asked his two sons to get down from the vehicle and help push it. While the boys were pushing the vehicle, a drunk Banda crashed into the trunk of his car instantly crushing his sons to death. Prosecutors say a furious Barajas returned home to retrieve his gun which then used to shoot Banda with just one gunshot to the head.


When Barajas went to court for the killing, he was found not guilty of the murder. Continue...

Unknown Gunmen attack army camp in Bauchi, Commander killed



Unknown gunmen at about 5.20 today August 28th attacked an Army camp manned by six armed soldiers at Wunti -Dada, a suburb of Bauchi state, killing the commander of the camp and a soldier.

In accordance with reports by The Nation, the unknown gunmen arrived the camp in two motorcycles right after early morning Muslim prayers and opened fire, killing the commander and the soldier.

Wunti-Dada has been among the known security challenge points within the state capital with lots of unusual incidents. The Bauchi state Police Public relations officer and the the 33 Artillery Brigade spokesman have refused to comment on the development.

48 hours after Sunday Onyebuchi was impeached as the deputy governor of Enugu state for rearing chickens in his official quarters, members of the Enugu state house of Assembly today Aug. 28th, confirmed clergy man and politician, Ralph Nwoye (pictured above) as the newest deputy governor of the state.
Mr Ralph Nwoye, a pastor of the Christ Ascension Church in Enugu, is considered a former Local government chairman. He's likely to be sworn-in as deputy governor soon.

Nigeria reportedly records new Ebola death in Port Harcourt




According to a report on Sahara Reporters, a doctor resident in Port Harcourt who treated a diplomat that had direct contact with late Patrick Sawyer in Lagos, died last week Friday August 22nd from Ebola virus disease. Ironically, the diplomat he treated is still alive. The unidentified doctor had taken the diplomat to an undisclosed hotel in Port Harcourt to secretly treat him after the diplomat failed to turn himself in during the search for those who had direct contact with the late Patrick Sawyer. The late doctors wife has reportedly fallen ill and has been quarantined in Port Harcourt. Continue... 

Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari regains freedom from police custody



Detained NFF president Aminu Maigari has finally regained his freedom along side fellow executive committee member Chris Green. He was released yesterday one day after he was arrested on Aug 26th. 
“Maigari has been released by the security operatives. He was released in the morning from the special anti-robbery squad after he was handed to them by the Directorate of State Security Service. No charges were pressed against him, neither was he or Green questioned on anything. It was clearly to prevent them from attending the general assembly of Tuesday, which FIFA insisted be presided by Maigari.”” said an aide of the NFF boss.
Maigari, it was further learnt, was detained on orders of controversial former Rivers State police commissioner Joseph Mbu, who is now an assistant Inspector General of police. World football governing body FIFA is expected to soon rule on the unfolding drama in Nigeria...
