A one day-old baby boy, was rescued from throwing into a pit latrine by his mom right after birth from the Ogbor Hill Division in Aba, Abia.

It was gathered that the mother of the baby, identified as Nwaizu and who is suspected to be insane, was impregnated by a yet to be identified man.

The woman, who hails from Obingwa Local Government Area of the state was said to have sometime last week, given birth to the boy in her village and before help could come to her, she threw the baby into their pit latrine and covered it.

First Plane To Land In Bayelsa In October 2015





Bayelsa State Government has revealed that the first cargo plane will land in the state in October 2015.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to ensure that the ongoing state cargo airport at Amassomma in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state was ready for use by that time.

State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Mr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, made this known this to journalists in Yenagoa on Monday after inspecting the progress of work at the airport.

The commissioner said, “The cargo airport will enable us to key into global economy development; and we are still standing by our October 2015 for the first plane to land here in Bayelsa

Nigeria needs Saudi Arabia ‘to stop Boko Haram’





The best way to end the Boko Haram insurgency is to involve clerics from Saudi Arabia, a lawyer who runs a school for orphans of the militants has said. Mr. Zanna Bukar Mustapha, who owns a Maiduguri-based foundation, The Future Prowess, told Sunday Trust that leaders of Boko Haram belong to the Salafi movement with headquarters in the Islamic holy land. He is sceptical about the involvement of the US and other Western powers in the attempt to end the insurgency which has claimed over 10,000 lives in five years, drawing global attention with the kidnap of over 200 schoolgirls from Chibok nearly three months ago.

13 Nigerian banks make top 1000 world ranking, lead Africa




FOR the second consecutive year, 13 Nigerian banks made the list of Top 1000 World Banks as published by The Banker magazine of the Financial Times Group in its 2014 edition.

  The publication also coincided with the global banks’ resurgence to profit of $920 billion, the first time since the global financial crisis, which is 23 per cent more than their previous peak of $786 billion achieved in 2007 before the financial crisis.

  The 13 Nigerian banks that made the ranking underlines Nigeria’s number one position in the continent, as no other African country has up to 13 slots among the 1000 World banks.

5 killed in air strike during first day of Israeli military campaign in Gaza



An Israeli air strike on a car in Gaza City killed four people on Tuesday, medics said, changing the death toll to five. "Four people were killed in a Israli strike on a civilian car in the Daraj neighbourhood in the center of Gaza City," emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told AFP. Earlier Tuesday an Israeli air strike on the central Gaza Strip killed a Palestinian man, an emergency services spokesman said.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) has opened a criminal case against unnamed militants of Ukraine’s National Guard and Right Sector, the DPR said on its Twitter micro blog on Tuesday.

Police uncover plot to bomb school in Gombe



KANO  (AFP) – Nigerian police on Monday uncovered a plot to bomb a secondary school in the restive northeastern city of Gombe by defusing a car laden with explosives that had been abandoned there, a spokesman said.
Police bomb experts found 12 improvised explosives concealed in a car that was abandoned on the premises of the state-run Pilot secondary school, following a tip-off, Fwaje Attajiri told AFP.

US State Department recognizes right of Kiev to apply airstrikes on civilians





US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said to reporters at a press briefing that the Ukrainian government has every right to conduct attacks on civilians, as this upholds the unity of the country.

According to US State Department spokesman Jen Psaki, the Ukrainian government defends the country, inflicting air strikes on civilians in the east of the country. She stated this today at a regular meeting with reporters. Psaki justified Kiev's actions in relation to the militia.
