Spanish Man Addopted By Nigerian Lover






The Edo State Police Command has rescued a Spanish, Jose Anthonio Murili Turrillo who was kidnapped and held captive in a hotel room in Benin City since last Saturday by his Nigerian lover..  The victim was said to have been lured from Spain by 28 year-old , who was said to have been repatriated from Spain. Along with one Kenny Oyemwina, 25, they held the Spanish hostage and took all the money he had.

Briefing journalists on the case in Benin, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Folusho Adebanjo, said “investigation revealed that the female suspect is the Spanish lover who lured him from Spain to Nigeria and he was made to withdraw all the money he had in his account.

WORRISOME !!! African lion kills female intern at private American big cat sanctuary



A female intern-volunteer was killed Wednesday by a lion at a private wild animal park in Central California, and state and local authorities were trying to determine what might have caused the fatal attack.

Cat Haven founder and executive director Dale Anderson was crying as he read a one-sentence statement about the fatal mauling at the exotic animal zoo he has operated since 1993.

The 26-year-old intern was attacked and killed when she entered the lion’s enclosure, Anderson said, but he refused to answer questions or provide more details.

Ghanaian Footballer Bathed With Acid



YAW BEEKO, a 29-year-old footballer from Asante-Akyem area in the Ashanti Regionm Ghana, has been bathed with acid by an aggressive husband, Kwame Amoah, who accused Beeko of allegedly flirting with his wife.
Amoah, a miner, committed the act at 12:30pm on November 11, 2012 at Manso Kwabenaso in the Amansie West District, shortly after the complainant's arrival in the community to join his teammates.
Amoah was remanded in prison custody when he appeared before a circuit court in Bekwai presided over by Daniel Kwaku Obeng on Monday.
Kwasi Amoah, also 29, was caged to re-appear on March 20, 2013 after pleading not guilty to the charge of assault and causing harm.
The miner lost his cool that afternoon and subsequently launched the deadly attack on the footballer, who had joined his teammates in his manager's residence where the accused was a tenant.

7 men who robbed jewellery shop sentenced to death by firing squad



Seven men who robbed a jewellery shop have been sentenced to death by firing squad and crucifixion in Saudi Arabia.
They were due to be killed today but Saudi Arabia's royal family postponed the executions for week after an outcry from human rights groups.
Sarhan al-Mashayekh was one of seven men whose death sentences were confirmed by King Abdullah on Saturday.
It was decided that he would crucified for three days and the six other men were to face firing squads.
Earlier today one of the men sentenced to death appealed for help.
Speaking from Abha General prison yesterday Nasser al-Qahtani said that he was arrested as part of 23-member ring that stole from jewellery stores in 2004 and 2005.

WARNING !!! Rape attracts life imprisonment in Nigeria



The House of Representatives yesterday Tuesday March 5th approved life imprisonment for any person convicted of rape. They also approved a minimum of 20 years without an option of fine for persons convicted of gang raping someone.

The bill, which was sponsored by Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also approved 25 years imprisonment for any person who attempted to use chemical, biological or any harmful liquid on another person. (e.g pouring acid on anyone). 

The bill also approved 4 years in jail or a fine not more than N200,000 or both for any person convicted of performing female circumcision and general mutilation or engaging someone to carry it out. Aiding female circumcision attracts N100, 000 or two years in jail or both.

Two teenagers rape 6 year old step sister to death in Delta state




A 19-year-old boy, Felix Inia and his 16-year-old brother, Stanley are now cooling their heels at the headquarters of the Delta State Police Command, Asaba, for allegedly defiling their six-year-old stepsister, Precious Kankamor. The incident, which eventually led to the death of the victim, occurred at Ogbe-Ijoh community, Warri South Local Government Area of the state. The suspects were said to have had carnal knowledge of the minor by forcefully penetrating her, which led to severe injuries in the victim’s private part.
Besides the injuries sustained after the alleged sexual abuse, little Miss Precious later developed protruding stomach, leading to medical complications that eventually cut short the life of the victim. Investigation revealed that the suspects’ mother got married to the father of the deceased after her first marriage ended with the death of Mr. Inia. The now embattled mother moved into her new marriage with her teenage sons, who unsuspecting, had eyes on little Miss Precious immediately they stepped into their new home.

Expert Says Nigerian Education Curriculum Responsible For Unemployment




The Founder of the Centre for Applied Thinking, Josefu Adeyeni on Wednesday said the Nigerian Educational curriculum is structured in a way that graduates are prepared to be job seekers rather than job creators.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Adeyeni said the Nigerian educational system is using the 20th century curriculum to prepare 21st century people.
He said though the Bloom’s Taxonomy, which guided the curriculum structure in Nigeria education and was prepared in 1956, was revised in 2001, the country still use the old version which emphasised preparation for job after graduation.

Fracas In Ogun Assembly as Lawmakers Break Into Pandemonium



There was pandemonium in the hallow chamber of the Ogun State House of Assembly yesterday following attempts by the Speaker, Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi, to suspend four members for allegedly infringing on the House rules.
The uproar witnessed on the floor of the House, which resulted in the breaking of the mace, was as a result of the crisis rocking the Assembly over the composition of members of the tenders’ board.
At the plenary yesterday, the Speaker, recalled an alleged unruly behaviour of four lawmakers during the previous sitting.
Adekunbi noted that four members- Hon. Job Akintan (Egbado North II); Hon. Remmy Hazzan (Odogbolu); Hon. Adijat Adeleye-Oladapo (Ifo II); and Hon. John Obafemi (Remo North); all walked out on all other members without taking a bow at the previous sitting.

FG Set To Clamp Down On Satellite Campuses – Education Minister





Education Minister, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufai, has said that the Federal Government would take serious action against the activities of Nigerians operating satellite campuses.
Speaking in Kaduna, on Monday, at the consultative meeting between the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education and Rectors of Polytechnics and Provost of Colleges of Education in the country, Rufai noted that the government would soon clamp down on those operating the satellite campuses and outreach centres.

Reps move to criminalise late, non-payment of salaries





A new bill before the House of Representatives has proposed stiff penalties for employers of labour in both the public and private sectors who fail to pay or delay the payment of workers’ salaries.
The bill passed second reading on Tuesday, getting the support of the majority of lawmakers at a session presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal.
It also proposes that underpayment of workers’ wages; pension and emolument will attract sanctions.
According to the sponsor of the bill and House Minority Leader, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, the penalties will include the loss of 10 to 20 per cent of the value of the delayed salary.

Cisco rakes $750m from Nigeria, others on services




NIGERIA'S robust market was confirmed in South Africa Tuesday where Cisco, a United States (U.S.)-based networking firm announced a yearly revenue of $750 million from its operation in Nigeria and other African countries.
The company, which said, about $1.7 billion could be generated from African market offering the same services, also stressed that South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt constitutes about 63 per cent of the continent’s potential market.
According to the company, seven countries represent 80 per cent of Africa’s total addressable market (TAM). The are Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, Libya among others.

Nigerian Police make mass arrest over Kwara CP’s murder



The Enugu State Police Command on Tuesday said it had raided criminals’ hideouts and made random arrests in its investigations of the murder of Kwara State police commissioner, Mr. Chinweike Asadu, last Saturday.
    The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tonye Ebitibituwa, who announced the arrests declined giving the number and identity of those arrested. The PUNCH  however learnt from residents of Nike in the Enugu metropolis, where the late police boss was gunned down, that over 500 youths of the area had been picked.
     A resident of the area, who refused to give his name for fear of police harassment, said, “All the youths in this area have been arrested and detained in many police stations in the state. Over 500 persons have been arrested in this area.”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez dies




A deeply divided Venezuela is mourning its late leader and preparing to pick a new president to replace him.
Venezuelan officials called for peace and unity after President Hugo Chavez's death on Tuesday, emphasizing in state television broadcasts that all branches of the government and the military were standing together.
Elections will be held in 30 days, and Vice President Nicolas Maduro will assume the presidency in the interim, Foreign Minister Elias Jaua said in an interview broadcast on state-run VTV.
Tearing up as he announced Chavez's death after a long battle with cancer, Maduro called on Venezuelans to remain respectful.

Nigerians remained indebted to Obasanjo, says Jonathan



Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated former President Olusegun Obasanjo on his 76th birthday.
This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Dr Reuben Abati.
The statement quoted the president as saying that Nigerians remained indebted to Obasanjo for his efforts at ensuring peace, stability and development of the country.
