US and European Powers Pledge to Kill Islamic State Cash Flow



European leaders and US President Barack Obama have agreed during a conference call to work toward dousing Islamic State (IS) funding avenues, said the White House Press Office.
The heads of France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States participated in a video conference call where they reaffirmed their vow to destroy the IS network, while working to curb the IS propaganda machine with a stronger message of their own, according to the White House brief.

Iran, 5+1 Ministerial Meeting Could be Held in November: Russian Deputy Foreign Minister





A meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran and the 5+1 group could take place in November, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told RIA Novosti.
"A ministerial meeting is possible. But this will mean that the solution is near. Alternatively, if this is not achieved, complications are possible, like it happened last year, when ministers were unable to eliminate the problems on the first try," Ryabkov said Tuesday in an interview with RIA Novosti.

US Isolationism Greater Security Threat Than Budget Cuts: Former NATO Commander





The greatest threat to the United States' national security is not the decline in the size of military forces or the budget, but withdrawal and isolationism from the rest of the world, Admiral James Stavridis, former NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, told RIA Novosti.
"The biggest threat to the United States is isolationism, frustration with the world that causes us to withdraw," Admiral Stavridis told RIA Novosti on Tuesday at a Center for Strategic and International Studies discussion on maritime security with US Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Jonathan Greenert.

Gunshot Residue Found on St. Louis Shooting Victim: Lab Results





Vonderrit Myers, Jr., an African-American teenager, who was shot and killed by a white off-duty police officer in St. Louis on October 8, tested positive for gunpowder residue, according to crime lab results, released by Missouri state authorities on Tuesday.


“The presence of gunshot residue on a person’s hands could mean the individual discharged a firearm, was near a firearm when it was discharged, or touched an object with gunshot residue on it. Individuals shot at close range can have gunshot residue deposited onto their hands,” the lab results read.

Syrian Kurds Refuse To Fight Assad Army: Kurdish Leader





Kurds are not going to fight alongside Turkey against Syrian President Bashar Assad in Syria, Syrian Kurds leader Salih Muslim said in an interview with the Hurriyet newspaper Monday.
“Do you want us to fight against them in Damascus and be a soldier there instead of you? We will not do that. We have stopped being soldiers for others, which Kurds have done throughout history,” he said as quoted by the Hurriyet.

Sanctions Boosted Efficiency of Russia’s Drone Production Industry: UAV Manufacturer





Director of UAV development programs at Russia’s Vega Radio Engineering Corporation Arkady Syroyezhko told RIA Novosti that economic sanctions against Russia had made the manufacturers of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) operate more effectively.


“The import substitution program could help [Russian defense] industry to apprehend its drawbacks and to use its existing internal reserves. Yes, this is going to be hard, but we will solve this problem. Sanctions have made [the defense industry] work more effectively,” Syroyezhko said.
According to Syroyezhko, while Russian Defense Ministry is not purchasing foreign UAVs, in the future it plans to continue buying certain foreign-made components.

Over 450,000 Healthcare Workers to Strike in UK, Demanding Higher Salaries




Over 450,000 National Health Service (NHS) workers are expected to strike over pay in England Monday.


"NHS staff across England are on strike for fair pay from 7am to 11am [06:00-10:00 GMT] on Monday 13 October," UNISON, one of UK's largest trade unions, reported on its website Monday, also saying that "UNISON members working in the NHS in England will go on strike on Monday 13 October from 7am to 11 am and will be taking action short of strike action from 14 to 17 October".
A total of five British unions, including UNISON and Unite, will take part in the protest.

White House Scheme to Close Guantanamo Dangerous: US House Speaker




- The White House's plan to close the Guantanamo Bay prison is dangerous, and is opposed by the majority of Americans, according to US House Speaker John Boehner.
"Even as Islamic jihadists are beheading Americans, the White House is so eager to bring these terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to the United States that it is examining ways to thwart Congress and unilaterally re-write the law," the statement issued by the speaker's press office on Friday reads.
"Not only is this scheme dangerous, it is yet another example of what will be this administration's legacy of lawlessness," Boehner stated.

New US Military Base in Romania Due to Operate in 2015: US Navy Department



A new US military base in Deveselu, Romania is due to be up and running next year as a part of NATO's overall ballistic missile defense (BMD) system, the US Department of the Navy said in a statement. "NSF Deveselu will utilize both a SM-3 missile interceptor battery platform and an Aegis SPY-1 radar platform," the statement reads.


"The Aegis BMD system is the key component in the Obama administration's plan for a phased deployment of a missile defense umbrella in Europe, which is intended to protect US forces and NATO allies from regional threats," the department said.

2 Earthquakes Up to 5.2 Magnitude Rock Eastern Indonesia




Two earthquakes, measuring 5.0 and 5.2 magnitude, struck off Indonesia's eastern coast without raising a tsunami wave, the nation's Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) reported early on Saturday.


The epicenter of the stronger quake was located 31 kilometers southwest of the Talaud archipelago in the Pacific, right on the maritime border between Indonesia and the Philippines. The center was under the Sulawesi sea floor at the depth of 42 kilometers.

G20 Finance Chiefs Consider Scrapping Russia Sanctions: Russian Finance Minister





 G20 finance ministers and central bank governors discussed the outlook for lifting sanctions against Russia and settling the Ukraine crisis on the sidelines of IMF-World Bank fall meetings in Washington this week, Russia's Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said Friday.


"During 'off-stage' meetings everyone was talking about their desire to resolve as soon as possible the situation in southeastern Ukraine, and to get rid of sanctions that are clearly in the way of their own business and economic stimuli," the Russian finance chief told journalists in Washington.
