Intense Rioting Ongoing In Dei Dei, Abuja, 5 People Killed, more than 30 Cars Destroyed





An ongoing riot in Dei Dei area of Abuja has claimed the life of five persons and caused the destruction of over 35 vehicles sparked by a motorcycle accident in the suburb.

An eyewitness, who narrated the cause of the riot to our correspondent, said the fracas was ignited after a motorcyclist knocked down a woman by the roadside, who sustained serious injury.

This triggered a heated argument among onlookers and sympathizers. In defense of himself, the motorcyclist brought out a dagger and stabbed five people.

Minister of Health debunks rumours of Ebola cases in Abuja and Calabar




 Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu has debunked rumours of Ebola cases in Abuja and Calabar and said the case in Kaduna continues to be under investigation. He also stated that another patient has been discharged from the Isolation center in Lagos after being certified free from the deadly virus.  He addressed issues in some tweets via his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr Dan Nwomeh. Below are a few photos from the All Progressive Congress (APC) Convention that held yesterday, June 13th at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

The delegates elected former Edo state governor John Oyegun as its National Chairman while Mai Mala Buni from Yobe state was elected the party's National Secretary. Former governor of Ekiti State Segun Oni who defected from PDP to APC in May was elected Deputy National Chairman (South) while former National Secretary of the defunct ACN, Lawal Shuaibu, was elected Deputy National Chairman (North). Current Interim spokesperson of the party, Lai Mohammed, was returned unopposed because the National Publicity Secretary.

Another Bomb Strike Foiled by Police in Kubwa, Abuja




Police in Kubwa, one of the most populated satellite towns in Abuja this afternoon foiled a bomb attack by suspected Boko Haram sects. The bomb loaded in a few cooking gas cylinders and being conveyed by a vehicle was intercepted around Channel 8 junction, near a mosque. The mosque is found across the Kubwa village market. Although details still remain sketchy, the suspects have previously been taken up to the zone 4 police station for further interrogation.

World Economic Forum On Africa 2014: Security Update (Day 3) - Conference Ends, No Incident Reported



The events marking the World Economic Forum on Africa, 2014 have today, Friday, May 9, 2014, come to an end.
While noting that the conference was a huge success and hitch-free, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, CFR, NPM, mni, psc commended the Police officers and members of other security agencies who helped to provide a safe, secure and conducive atmosphere for the conference. The IGP reassures that the security measures in place will continue so as to cover the period of rest and departure for all delegates and participants.

Just In: Another bomb blast rocks Nyanya, Abuja (Graphic Photos)



 More devastating news for the country.
Sahara Reporters just sent out a tweet that National Emergency Officials have reported an explosion in Nyanya general part of Abuja.
The news organization spoke with several emergency responders heading to the scene. They are unacquainted with the explanation for explosion.
Loads  of casualties is yet to be ascertained but a number of individuals have died and security officials have taken on the area.
The news comes after the tragic explosion at the Nyanya bus garage in Abuja on Monday 14th April 2014.

Aftermath of Nyanya, Abuja Bomb blast: Military checkpoint causes Massive traffic gridlock



In the wake of the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on Monday April 14th, which killed over 80 people, military checkpoints have been mounted at various strategic road junctions to double check human and vehicular activities in the FCT.
 
Motorists/workers say these checkpoints have grown to be a serious problem for them because they lose many useful hours in traffic with a number of them getting late to work and receiving queries.

Presidency Stops ₦3b Payment for Abuja CCTV Project



The Presidency is angry with the way how the controversial Federal Government’s N76 billion closed circuit television project is being handled.
Last night, the Presidency, which feels embarrassed by the failure of the project to contribute to the fight against terrorism, has cancelled a request by the Ministry of Police Affairs to pay additional N3 billion to the NigComsat and the Chinese firm handling the scheme.
The Presidency, it was learnt, is peeved at the failure of the project, otherwise known as Nigerian Public Security Communications System, to capture the images of terrorists who have been carrying out lethal bombings in the federal capital and environs.

Soldiers, hunters comb bushes for abducted girls



Soldiers, policemen, local vigilantes, hunters and volunteers combed the bushes on Wednesday in search of over 100 schoolgirls abducted on Monday by Boko Haram Islamists in Chibok, Borno State.

The rescue teams, aided by surveillance helicopters, were said to have moved deeper into the vast forest that extends into neighbouring Cameroon and other states in the North-East.
A senator representing Borno South in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, made this known to the Cable News Network just as President Goodluck Jonathan summoned military chiefs and governors to emergency security meetings on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Conoil Filling Station, Abuja, on Fire After an Explosion (Pics)




An explosion rocked a few houses across from the offices of the Nigeria National Oil Corporation (NNPC) in Abuja. Based on eyewitnesses, a petrol tanker discharging fuel exploded at the Conoil service station opposite the NNPC creating in Abuja. The huge fireball can be viewed in areas around Abuja. There's no record of casualty due to the explosion. A lot more than 8 fire fighting vehicles have exhausted their material but fire still rages on

Police Jail 8 Abuja "Runs Babes " For Pros*titution.



Abuja— A Zuba Grade 1 Area Court in the FCT, yesterday, sentenced eight women to half a year imprisonment each for prosti*tution. Those sentenced were Felicia Dominic, Vivian Agubuzor, Ifeoma Patrick, Comfort Jacob, Gift Obi, Tina Osagie, Mercy John and Joy Ayo, of no fixed address in Zuba.
 The judge, Mallam Alhassan Kusherki, sentenced the accused persons when they pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of soliciting men for the purpose of prostitution. Kusherki, however, gave the convicts a choice of N20,000 fine each. Prosecutor, Momoh Ibrahim, had told the court that the offence contravened Section 405 (Paragraph 1(b)) of the Penal Code.

Just In: Police storms Kano government lodge in Abuja, holds five fPDP governors hostage [PHOTO]




A detachment of police officers, led by the DPO of Asokoro police division today stormed the Kano State Government Lodge in Abuja and held at least 5 factional PDP governors in addition to others hostage.
In accordance with SaharaReporters, five trapped governors are members of the splinter faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) who have refused to accept Bamanga Tukur as their chairman.
It was reported that there was initial tension when the security aides of the governors had denied to the DPO and his team entrance.

Another plane crash averted in Abuja



Another air disaster was averted at the Nnamdi Azikwe Airport, Abuja on Monday as a Med-View Airlines aircraft from Lagos suddenly took to the air again at the point of landing in Abuja.
The pilot told the passengers that he took to the air again to avoid a collision with another aircraft on the tarmac.

Folks who went to the concert were stunned with the amount of people in attendance at the quietly publicized concert with Wizkid the headliner with guest appearances from label mates Skales, Niyola, Shaydee. The show was supposed to kick off at 5pm but was found empty as at 9:30pm Nigerian time and we were able to lay our hands on this photo of the big event centre.

Nigerian lady kills herself In Abuja after Sending Facebook Suicide Letter



The woman under consideration is identified as Asampete Fatima Usman, a graduate of the University of Maiduguri who lives and works in Abuja. Fatima hails from Hong city in Adamawa state. According to sources, depressed Fatima sent an apparent suicide letter to several friends on Facebook on the 1st of October 2013.  In the suicide note, Fatima informs friends of her intention of killing herself but her friends thought she was joking.

Just In: Gunmen attack & kill over 20 in uncompleted building in Apo, Abuja Read



 Unknown gunmen dressed in military fatigue stormed an uncompleted building behind Legislator’s Quarters in Apo, Abuja in the early hours of this morning Friday September 20th killing over 20 people. The people killed were inhabitants of the uncompleted building. According to eyewitnesses, whisperNaija.com gathered that the owner of a building close to the uncompleted building had warned people who pass the night in the building to desist from it, but they refused. Then the massacre this morning happened. A resident in the area said that at about 12:30am he heard gunshot severally throughout the night, causing panic in the area. The number of people who died may be more than 20.

Woman Sentenced to 14 Years for Stealing N3.15 Million in Abuja




A 22-year-old cashier, Mariam Salifu was sentenced to 14 years in prison for stealing N3.15 million belonging to her employers. The decision has been announced by an Abuja Magistrate Court, on September 9, 2013, Monday.
