Free but prisoners: How children born in Kirikiri prisons live

In the cell block reserved for nursing mothers and pregnant inmates at the Kirikiri Female Prison, Lagos, toddlers clung to their mothers’ chests. They observed our correspondent, when he visited last week Saturday, with a bemused expression on their young faces.

They are in prison because their mothers are inmates. Apparently, they weren’t aware of a better life out there. They probably thought it was normal to be confined only to the four walls of the prison. No friends, no birthday parties, no relationship at all with other children outside the prison walls. They are victims of circumstances and will remain so until they are 18 months old.

Politicians Deepen Ties Through Marriage

28 June, 2013

Politics

Marriage, to numerous people, stands for different things. Just as some still find it the union of man and woman in wedlock, others believe it goes beyond joining two consenting adults together. This is why such people, when it comes to celebrating the joint union, always wish to leave a record to prove that their celebration was the most effective ever.

But in spite of the fact that “the best-ever wedding in town” doesn't exist, most are falling over one another to make sure theirs is the talk of the town. On such occasions, friends, families, relatives and, quite often, strangers arrive at wish the couple well and get refreshed with whatever the couples have the ability to provide. It requires people years, months or days to prepare for their wedding, each with respect to the circumstance.

See How Nigerian Celebrities Are Killing Themselves

Apparently basking in the euphoria of a new status, many Nigerians in showbiz throw caution in the wind in the process of “living it up”.
These days, hardly does a month end without news of someone in Nollywood or the Music industry, getting involved in car accident or public brawl...
This comes as no surprise, especially to those who are in the know of the background of today’s stars. Most of them, even in wildest dreams, never thought they would attain their current standing in the society. In fact, not only do they talk about the rise to fame in interviews, they also author books and record songs on it.

WHEN AND HOW TO TALK ABOUT S-EX WITH YOUR KIDS

Talking to your kids about the birds and the bees is a task most parents may cringe doing. If you are also one amongst them, you should know that it is highly important that your little ones learn about it from you instead of other sources like the media or friends of the same age or pornography. Not only is there a chance that they get wrongly informed; but not being able to share their doubts with you creates an impression that it is a bad thing and should be spoken about only behind closed doors. While it may be a task you wish to avoid, it is essential for them to learn about it. s-exual health experts Dr Vijayasarathi Ramanathan, Rachel Hercman and Dr Paul Joannides explain the importance of imparting s-ex education by parents to their kids.
