ASUU Strike: Rejecting ₦ 220 Billion Over Five Years to End Strike Will Have Grave Consequences.




After getting an annual payment offer of N220 billion for the next five years, from the federal government, following a marathon meeting that ended Tuesday, indications have emerged that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may lose the sympathy of several and might make the  government wield the big stick if it rejects the recent offer by the government, with the full blown implementation of the ‘no work, no pay'policy likely to break the ranks of the union and cause disaffection on the list of members who'd have the pinch of the salaries being withheld.

Nigeria government will find out how 40,000 ghost workers earned N118 billion, Maku says



Mr. Maku addressed a world press conference.
The Minister of Information and acting Minister of Defence, Labaran Maku, on Tuesday in Abuja said that the Federal Government would take time out to find out how over 40, 000 ghost workers from 215 Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) gained access into the nation’s payroll.

Nigeria’s Federal Reserve Rose To $47.02 Billion





For the first time in four years, Nigeria’s external reserves grew by 3.8 per cent month on month to $47.02 billion as at February 21, 2013. This increase is coming amid claims by prominent Nigerians that the external reserves is being squandered – the government will have something to boast about now. The latest data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revealed that the country’s forex reserves were $45.26 billion a month earlier while they rose by 34 .99% from a year ago when $34.83 billion were recorded.

Dangote Plans To Build 2 Billion Dollar Fertilizer Plant In Edo State



The Dangote Group and Nigeria’s Edo State government have concluded plans to set up one of Africa’s largest fertilizer plants in Africa valued at $2 billion. To this end, the groundbreaking ceremony of the fertilizer plant has been slated to take place before the end of January next year.

President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote announced this at a reception for guests shortly after the swearing-in of Governor Adams Oshiomhole for his second term of office. He said the fertilizer plant to be sited at Agenebode, Etsako East local government area of Edo state would employ more than 10, 000 people directly and indirectly when completed in three years’ time.

Please Come And Spend $16 Billion In Our Energy Sector – FG Calls On Private Investors




It has been revealed that the Federal Government needs an investment of at least $16bn (N2.53tn) from the private sector to address the myriad of problems in the energy sector. This was revealed by the Project Manager, Bank of Industry/United Nations Development Programme, Mr. Femi Adaju, in Abuja at the second edition of the renewable energy investment forum.

It’s official: Psy’s “Gangnam Style” is the first video ever to hit a billion views on YouTube.
Psy’s dance hymn Gangnam Style, which was uploaded to YouTube on July 15, millions of views are racking up every hour. It took approximately three hours for the video to go from 995 million to a billion.
Gangnam Style” was YouTube’s top rising search of 2012 and on October 6th, more than five million searches for “gangnam style” in a single day.

Nigerian Senate Passes N161.6 Billion Supplementary budget for oil subsidy





The Senate on Thursday, passed the supplementary appropriation bill of N161.6 billion. The amount will serve as payment for fuel subsidy to oil marketers for 2012. President Goodluck Jonathan had on Tuesday sent a request to the National Assembly to approve an additional N161.6 billion to ensure steady supply of petroleum products during the festive season. Senate President, Sen. David Mark, however, decried the high level of corruption being perpetrated under the fuel subsidy scheme, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Mint Scandal: N2.1 Billion Worth Of N1,000 Notes Missing




The board of directors of the Nigeria Security Printing and Minting Company (NSPMC) met yesterday over the scandal that rocked the establishment where it was revealed that a whopping N2.1 billion of newly printed N1,000 notes have mysteriously gone missing.

The board meeting, chaired by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, decided to expand the investigation and audit the production of other currency denominations to ascertain the quantity of money that has actually gone missing over the years. LEADERSHIP had exclusively reported that an acting managing director, Ahmed Bamali, had been appointed to head the Mint company while Ehi Okomoyon, who was the chief executive, was asked to proceed on indefinite leave.
