18 Soldiers Sentenced To Death, Prisons Over Boko Haram Complicity



For their alleged links to Boko Haram, some soldiers are to face death penalty while others will go to jail. Those affected are one lieutenant, one warrant officer and 16 others. The General Court Martial   has been trying them since July 1, this year. 

They were accused of offences ranging from communicating with Boko Haram members, cowardly behaviour, murder, to manslaughter. They were being tried by the Three Armoured Division as the case fell within its Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Woman Sentenced to 14 Years for Stealing N3.15 Million in Abuja




A 22-year-old cashier, Mariam Salifu was sentenced to 14 years in prison for stealing N3.15 million belonging to her employers. The decision has been announced by an Abuja Magistrate Court, on September 9, 2013, Monday.

Man sentenced to death by hanging in Abia state for killing his wife




An Abia State High Court has sentenced a banker, Mr. Theophilus Ajakaiye, to death by hanging for killing his wife, Theodora. (pictured above)
The convict allegedly murdered his wife on October 12, 2009 at Azumini Ndoki in the Ukwa Judicial Division of Abia.
Until her death, Theodora was an employee of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.

The legal battle between the deceased’s family and the accused began soon after the alleged killing until the judgment recently.

The Presiding Judge, Justice T.U. Uzokwe, said in his judgment that having heard from the accused person, learned counsel for the accused and the prosecuting counsel, the offence carried a mandatory sentence which is death.

Sunny Ade's guitarist sentenced to 3yrs in prison for drug trafficking



King Sunny Ade's ex-guitarist, Fatoke Abiodun, was yesterday May 14th sentenced to three years imprisonment at a Federal High Court in Lagos for drug trafficking.

The 62 year old veteran guitarist was arrested on Tuesday January 1st 2013 with 1.575kg of cocaine while trying to board an Air France flight to Italy at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The drug was discovered in the false bottom of his luggage during the screening of passengers to Italy. Fakoke pled guilty to one count of unlawful exportation of cocaine.

He played for King Sunny Ade for 30 years before he was unceremoniously retired in 2007.

Mother sentenced to life in prison after super gluing daughter's hand to a wall



A woman was sentenced to life in prison after beating and super gluing her daughter’s hands after having difficulties with potty training.

The Dallas woman who abused her 2-year-old daughter also beat the girl so badly that she suffered bleeding in her brain, a doctor said Monday during the sentencing hearing of the mother.

Elizabeth Escalona is going to spend life in prison after pleading guilty in to attacking her daughter, Jocelyn Cedillo, in September. Police say the 23-year-old mother attacked the girl due to potty training problems.

Brazilian Footballer To spend 22 Years in Jail For Killing Girlfriend And Feeding Her Body to...



A Brazilian footballer has been jailed for more than two decades for ordering the kidnap and murder of his girlfriend, who was dismembered and fed to his pet dogs.  Bruno Fernandes de Souza, 28, who was tipped to play for Brazil at the 2014 World Cup, was sentenced to 22 years and three months in prison for the murder of Eliza Samudio, whom he apparently had killed to avoid paying child support after she gave birth to his love child.
Judge Marixa Fabiane Rodrigues said the goalkeeper, who played for Brazil's biggest team Flamengo, had 'meticulously calculated' Ms Samudio's execution.

7 men who robbed jewellery shop sentenced to death by firing squad



Seven men who robbed a jewellery shop have been sentenced to death by firing squad and crucifixion in Saudi Arabia.
They were due to be killed today but Saudi Arabia's royal family postponed the executions for week after an outcry from human rights groups.
Sarhan al-Mashayekh was one of seven men whose death sentences were confirmed by King Abdullah on Saturday.
It was decided that he would crucified for three days and the six other men were to face firing squads.
Earlier today one of the men sentenced to death appealed for help.
Speaking from Abha General prison yesterday Nasser al-Qahtani said that he was arrested as part of 23-member ring that stole from jewellery stores in 2004 and 2005.

Mother Sentenced To 6 Years In Jail For Burying Her Only Child Alive




A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, sentenced an 18-year-old mother of one, Mrs Adeola Joseph, to six years imprisonment with hard labour for burying her only child alive for three days.

 Presiding Magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, held that the convict did not deserve to be in the midst of human beings and looked unperturbed by her criminal action, saying that “the convict is callous and may not change from her devilish act.”

Seven Men Sentenced to Death For Raping 14-Year Old Girl



Seven men in Sudan found guilty of drugging and raping a 14-year-old girl were sentenced to death by hanging on Monday, reports say. The victims’ lawyer, called the sentence “more than just”.

Speaking to the AFP, the lawyer Salma Mohammedahmed Hamed said Judge Ahmed Khalil Albahar ruled on the case on Sunday at a court in Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman, also sentencing six other minors who abused the girl to 10 years each in a reformatory. Cases of gang rape are rare in the Islamist-run state.

Man Sent to Jail for stabbing 16-year boy



AbeokutaA –  Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta on Tuesday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Bidemi Jayeola, to one year imprisonment for stabbing a 16-year-old boy.  The Magistrate, Mr Matins Akinyemi, sentenced Jayeola after he pleaded guilty to the charge of assault filed against him.  Akinyemi, who did not give the convict an option of fine, said the sentence was with hard labour.  
The magistrate said that the offence was classified as a violent crime.

He said that Jayeola inflicted “serious bodily injury” on another person, therefore, he had to go to jail and think about his actions. The Police Prosecutor, Mr Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the offence was committed on Dec. 24, 2012, at about 8 p.m. at Olorunda village in Abeokuta.

Nigerian Student Sentenced To Death For Drug Trafficking in Malaysia



A 23 year-old Nigerian student of a private college in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was sentenced to death by hanging after he was found guilty of trafficking in 16,936gm of cannabis two years ago.
As reported by NewStraits Times, the Judicial Commissioner Mohd Zaki Abdul Wahab ruled that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt against John Amaechi Eze.
In his judgment, Zaki said the accused claimed he was waiting to board an express bus at a restaurant in front of the Lye Huat Garden hall when he was arrested by police. However, he said the court did not believe his claim that he did not own the luggage when witnesses had testified that he was with the luggage all the time.

Man Sentenced To 2 years Imprisonment For Stealing Vegetables





A Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Wednesday sentenced a 49-year-old man, Mr. Mustapha Adesina, to two years imprisonment for stealing vegetables valued at N5, 000.
Adesina, who pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against him when the matter was mentioned, was accused of harvesting vegetables on the complainant’s farm every Sunday. The Police Prosecution Officer, Mr. Augustine Ozimini, told Magistrate Idowu Olayinka, that Adesina committed the said offence on January 20 at Ita-Ika area of Abeokuta, the state capital.

Iranian Judge: 24-Year-Old Man Sentenced "To 1 Million Years" Imprisonment For Child Pórnography




An Iranian judge yesterday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 1 million years imprisonment for possession of child pórnography. Mohammed Kenare was sentenced Wednesday morning by a local judge who in his ruling held that possession of child pornography (video) is an act that could only be committed by a despicable and satanic person and that he (Kenare) should be locked up "for as much years as the devil should be locked up".

Gay Couple Sentenced To 14 Years In Jail For Getting Married

34-year-old Farmer Sentenced To Death For Robbery





A farmer at Kwale town, in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, Emeka Ogwu, has been sentenced to death by an Effurun High Court for armed robbery. Speaking in court, one of the prosecution witnesses, Dorothy Asekpokai, a business woman, had told the court that the convict attempted to rob her on June 12, 2007, when she visited her new building site around Osubi. She also identified the convict as the one who attempted to rob her with a gun but she narrowly escaped after driving away at top speed.

Li Hao, a Chinese man who held six women in an underground séx dungeon was sentenced to death Friday, according to CNN. He was convicted on charges of murder, rapé, organized prostitution, illegal detention and selling pornography. Li, who is 35, married and has a young son, worked for the city in Henan province while also carrying out his twisted fantasies.

7 Christians And 1 Pastor Sentenced To Death For Mocking Islam Prophet




An Egyptian court convicted in absentia on Wednesday seven Egyptian Coptic Christians and a Florida-based American pastor, sentencing them to death on charges linked to an anti-Islam film that had sparked riots in parts of the Muslim world.


The case was seen as largely symbolic because the defendants, most of whom live in the United States, are all outside Egypt and are thus unlikely to ever face the sentence. The charges were brought in September during a wave of public outrage in Egypt over the amateur film, which was produced by an Egyptian-American Copt.

The low-budget “Innocence of Muslims,” parts of which were made available online, portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, womaniser and buffoon.

Nigerian Lady Sentenced To 80 Years In Prison Over Deaths Of Toddlers In Her Care





24 year old Nigerian/American woman, Jessica Tata, was sentenced to 80 years in prison on Monday November 20th after being found guilty of the death of one of four children killed in a fire at her home day care in Houston.

16-month-old Elias Castillo and three other toddlers died after Tata left them unsupervised at her home while she went to a nearby store. Prosecutors say she left a pan of oil cooking atop a stovetop burner and that this ignited the February 2011 blaze. There were 7 children when the fire started, four died, three survived.

Electrician Sentenced To Death For Stabbing His Client To Death




An electrician, Abdulkadiri Issa, was on Wednesday [Oct. 31] sentenced to death by a Lagos High Court in Ikeja for the murder of Mrs. Catherine Kate-Amadi in Ebute-Meta, Lagos in October 2006.



Issa, 31, was found guilty of stabbing Kate-Amadi to death with a kitchen knife in her residence, where he had been invited to repair electrical faults. He was said to have locked himself up with the corpse of the deceased in the house where policemen said they found him hiding in the toilet.

Justice Iyabo Kasali, relying on circumstantial evidence adduced by the prosecution, said Issa was guilty of the murder.

She said:

There are contradictions in the evidence of the defendant along with Exhibit P4 which is the statement of the defendant.
The evidence of PW1, PW2 and PW3 is credible, irresistible and I find that the defendant killed the deceased.

Maryland Men Sentenced to Prison Terms for Roles in Identity Theft and Bank Fraud Scheme Crimes Caused More Than $90,000 in Losses



WASHINGTON—Oluyinka Akinadewo was sentenced today to 46 months in prison in connection with his participation in a scheme in which compromised identity information was used to commit bank fraud throughout the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

Akinadewo’s co- defendant, Olabimpe M. Olejiya, was sentenced on October 11, 2012, to 35 months in prison for his participation in the scheme and his attempted flight from prosecution.

The sentencings, which took place in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, were announced
