6 Men Arrested In India Yesterday For Smuggling Heroin



Yesterday, Wednesday 18th June 2014, the Punjab police arrested six Nigerian men in Delhi, India. It is said to be a major breakthrough in Delhi’s drive against drug trafficking.

According to The Hindustan Times, the men whose names include Sydney Obinna, Uzochekwu Clement, Alogsis Ezechinelu, Mike, Victor and Peter, were caught by a joint team of the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) from Mohali and Patiala.

The news outlet reports that the men had been obtaining heroin smuggled from Pakistan, through Punjab and J&K borders.

Below are a few photos from the All Progressive Congress (APC) Convention that held yesterday, June 13th at the Eagle Square in Abuja.

The delegates elected former Edo state governor John Oyegun as its National Chairman while Mai Mala Buni from Yobe state was elected the party's National Secretary. Former governor of Ekiti State Segun Oni who defected from PDP to APC in May was elected Deputy National Chairman (South) while former National Secretary of the defunct ACN, Lawal Shuaibu, was elected Deputy National Chairman (North). Current Interim spokesperson of the party, Lai Mohammed, was returned unopposed because the National Publicity Secretary.

Female Passenger Causes Panic Aboard Aero Flight Yesterday



Barely one week after a teenage boy, Daniel Ohikena caused a scare when he stowed away on an Arik Air plane from Benin to Lagos, another woman took over last Friday. Passengers aboard an Aero Contractors aircraft scheduled to take-off from Lagos to Benin were Friday thrown into confusion as one of the female passengers started screaming on top of her voice that she was no longer travelling. She was initially ignored by members of cabin crew and passengers alike but when she continued screaming, her persistence led to panic and suspicion among the passengers.

Vanguard reports her strange behavior led to the delay of the Benin- bound aircraft for two hours as all the passengers were asked to disembark while the plane was screened again.
All the checked-in luggage were also off-loaded for proper screening by both Aero and Aviation Security, AVSEC, of the Federal Airports authority of Nigeria, FAAN.

But despite the re-screening of the already checked in passengers and their luggage, nothing suspicious was found on board.

Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF) yesterday lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for setting up a





The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, at the weekend arrested a terror suspect (names withheld) in Hausari ward of the metropolis on Dandal Way at about 2.30 p.m. Friday.
Hausari ward, according to JTF sources, is one of the 14 black spot areas identified by the security task force since July, 2011. The terror suspect, according to eyewitness on came on a bicycle to a shop and bought a Coca-Cola drink; and started taking it among other people that just returned from Jumat prayers at Shehu of Borno’s palace mosque.
The source said, “unknown to the suspect, four people in unmarked Honda vehicle immediately alerted the JTF on the ‘presence and exact location’ of the suspected informant on Dandal way taking his drink, and 750 metres to the Shehu’s palace.”

Statement on fire outbreak at M-Net studios in Ojota yesterday



Below is a statement released by M-Net...
It has been confirmed that a fire broke out yesterday afternoon (Saturday March 2, 2013) at the Ojoto Studios facility, which is home to both M-Net and SuperSport productions in Nigeria.  At this time, the fire is under control and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze. Whilst the fire appears to have caused significant damage to the facility, which may result in some screening delays for programs recorded on site, M-Net and SuperSport are already hard at work with a view to resuming production as soon as possible in order to minimize any impact on viewing audiences at home.  Further M-Net, SuperSport and MultiChoice are deeply thankful and grateful that no-one was injured during this unfortunate incident.

13 Killed, 30 Injured in Car Accidents Yesterday



Nine persons were yesterday confirmed dead and 19 others seriously injured after two commercial vehicles collided yesterday along Maiduguri-Kano road.
According to officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), the accident occurred after one of the buses got a tyre burst that forced it to swerve into the opposite lane where it ran into an oncoming vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said nine of the passengers in the two buses died on the spot, while 19 others who sustained clinical injuries were rushed, by FRSC rescue team, to Maiduguri University Teaching Hospital about 60km away.
