6 Men Arrested In India Yesterday For Smuggling Heroin
Yesterday, Wednesday 18th June 2014, the Punjab police arrested six Nigerian men in Delhi, India. It is said to be a major breakthrough in Delhi’s drive against drug trafficking.
According to The Hindustan Times, the men whose names include Sydney Obinna, Uzochekwu Clement, Alogsis Ezechinelu, Mike, Victor and Peter, were caught by a joint team of the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) from Mohali and Patiala.
The news outlet reports that the men had been obtaining heroin smuggled from Pakistan, through Punjab and J&K borders.

Indian Wife And baby daughter set ablaze by hubby because He Needed a Son
A young Indian mother has been burned to death along with her infant daughter by her husband and in-laws for failing to pay dowry. Police in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand said 22-year-old Annu Devi was set ablaze while she was breastfeeding her daughter. They have now arrested her husband, Gunjan Masat, who allegedly poured fuel over Devi and her baby daughter before setting them on fire. According to Raghuni Rana, Devi's father, the couple were happily married for more than a year, but problems started after Ms Devi gave birth to a baby girl.

Nigerian man killed in India, Simeon Obodo, buried in his hometown in Obogwe-Umunwaku
The 35-year old Nigerian who was killed in Gao, India, on October 30, Simeon Obodo, has been buried in his hometown in Obogwe-Umunwaku community in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo.
A representative of the family, Ejike Esinkoye, disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Monday.
Mr. Esinkoye, who said the funeral service of Mr. Obodo took place on Monday at St Paul’s Catholic parish Obogwe-Umunwaku, expressed dismay that the Federal Government did not send any official delegation to the burial.

Indian Deadly attack: FG summons envoy, threatens retaliation,demands apology.
Federal Government has demanded an unreserved apology from the Indian authorities over the death of a Nigerian, Obodo Simeon and discriminatory attacks on Nigerians afterwards.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Viola Onwuliri, said this while answering questions from journalists at the Pre-Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Tensions between Nigerians and Indians have escalated since Simeon was found dead in Goa, a popular tourist destination in the country’s west. Simeon, according to reports, was stabbed to death on October 31 in Panaji, Goa state’s capital.

Nigerians in India take to the street, block Road In Protest Of A Dead Colleague
Nigerians and other African nationals numbering about 200 blocked the National Highway 17 on the outskirts of Goa capital in India today in protest of the death of a yet-to-be identified Nigerian. According to reports, the incident happened when a gang descended at Parra where many Nigerians stay - in four and two wheeler vehicles and attacked a small grouping of Nigerians with weapons.

Temple stampede leaves 89 dead in India
A stampede outside a temple in central India killed at least 89 people Sunday, authorities said.
The incident occurred on a connection over the Sindh River while pilgrims were headed to the temple for a Hindu festival. "The death toll may go much higher as about 25,000 individuals were present on the bridge at that time," said D.K. Arya, a nearby deputy police inspector. A rumor that the bridge was about to collapse caused panicked visitors to stampede, police told source sister network. Lots of people jumped off the bridge in to the river, Arya said. The stampede occurred at a temple in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

Nigerian dies of alcohol overdose in India
A 28-year-old Nigerian has died while undergoing treatment at Inamdar Hospital, in India only a few minutes after a group of seven persons dropped him off at the hospital, then fled the scene.
According to PuneMirror, an Indian news portal, the man identified as Mbamara Chideara Festus, normally stays in Nigeria, but at the moment lives in Mumbai.

Terrible: Girl, 19, Burnt To Death In India For Attempting To Marry For Love
A 19-year-old girl has been burnt to death and her mother beaten after pleading with village elders to be allowed to marry a boy from the same village and same caste, Indian police have confirmed.
Anju Yadav, 19, from Karahkol village, in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, was set on fire at her home while her mother, Gyanwati Devi, 48, was on the other side of the village pleading with the village council to allow Anju to marry her boyfriend of two-years, Ranjit Yadav, 21.

Robotic Future ??? India developing robot soldiers - Research Agency ( #Nigeria, Where Are We ?)
The robots, being developed by India's Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), will have a "very high level of intelligence" to enable them to tell friend from foe, DRDO chief Avinash Chander says.
"We are going to work for robotic soldiers," Chander told PTI in an interview. "We are going to look for very high level of intelligence in it than what we are talking today... It is a new program and a number of labs are already working in a big way on robotics."
The newly-appointed DRDO chief said the project is one of his agency's "priority areas," as "unmanned warfare in land and air is the future of warfare".

Again: Swiss tourist gang-raped in India
A Swiss woman who was on a cycling trip in central India with her husband has been gang-raped by eight men, police said today. The attack comes three months after the fatal gang-rape of a woman aboard a New Delhi bus outraged Indians.
Authorities detained and questioned 13 men in connection with the latest attack, which occurred Friday night as the couple camped out in a forest in Madhya Pradesh state after bicycling from the temple town of Orchha, local police officer R.K. Gurjar said.
