Nigerians in India take to the street, block Road In Protest Of A Dead Colleague

 Nigerians and other African nationals numbering about 200 blocked the National Highway 17 on the outskirts of Goa capital in India today in protest of the death of a yet-to-be identified Nigerian. According to reports, the incident happened when a gang descended at Parra where many Nigerians stay - in four and two wheeler vehicles and attacked a small grouping of Nigerians with weapons.

Nigerians Pour to the street To Protest Against The Call For Sack Of Stella Oduah

Business activities were, Saturday, paralyzed at the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, although temporarily, as hundreds of Igbo youths, beneath the aegis of Igbo Progressive Union (IPU), embarked on a peaceful protest against the calls for the sack of Oduah on the controversial armoured cars.

The kinsmen of the embattled minister from Ogbaru local government part of Anambra State, led by High
Chief George Nwabueze, also exonerated her from any wrong doing in the purchase of the cars. Nwabueze said that the prospective of those calling for the top of Oduah was President Goodluck Jonathan whose second term ambition in 2015 they've vowed to avoid by all means.

President Goodluck Jonathan has handed  the share certificates and licenses to 14 new investors of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN successor companies with an assurance that things are certain to get better in the energy sector. Jonathan described the process of the privatization programme as probably the most transparent in the annals of privatization in the country.

Meanwhile PHCN staff aren't happy about this improvement because their salaries are yet to be paid. They protested today in Government offices in Abuja and Lagos, and also warned the new investors to stay away from power installations for the present time until their demands are met. Ago Okota area of Lagos was in the news weekend, following the discovery of a kidnapper’s den, on Oyegbusi street, where a Briton who was kidnapped shortly after arriving the country from Amsterdam, was kept for five days before he was rescued.

The three-storey building located in the area known as new sight, towards Ago end of Okota, could be said to be sited at  a vantage position for the kidnappers, as it enables them to have a clear view of the entire area, down to the popular Apple junction in Amuwo-Odofin.

N’Assembly to reject emergency rule

Organised labour and civil society groups are planning a showdown with the Federal Government should the crisis in Rivers State remain intractable.

The groups told our correspondents on Saturday that the mass action had become necessary because of the breakdown of law and order in the state which was threatening the nation’s democracy.

Even though the Presidency has washed its hands off the crisis in the state, there have been reports that President Goodluck Jonathan, his wife, Patience, and their loyalists are behind the crisis rocking the Rivers State House of Assembly.

A civil rights group, Anti-Corruption Network, on Saturday threatened that the Presidency should prepare for the “Egyptian treatment.”

Amaechi Names Street, N4.3bn College After Yobo

Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has named a block and a N4.3bn football college after Super Eagles skipper and Fenerbahce defence strongman, Joseph Yobo.  Amaechi named the street resulting in Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Ikwerre Local Government Area of their state after Yobo as a mark of respect to him for leading the national team to victory at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The governor spoke during a state banquet in honour of the Super Eagles'star at Government House in Port Harcourt on Saturday.  He explained, “We are very proud of you (Yobo) as you played well and have inked well for the united states; I congratulate you and your spouse and I wish you all of the best.

Lagos State court jails 8 beggers over street begging

The Special Offences Court in Alausa area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, has sentenced eight beggars to one month imprisonment for begging on the streets of the state.  The beggars were arrested by officials of the Office of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State at different spots in the Lagos metropolis and charged to court.

Governor Babatunde Fashola had warned that his administration would declare total war on beggars, saying that they either leave the state or be prepared to engage in something that would contribute meaningfully to the state’s revenue earnings.

A man has been convicted of beheading a British woman with a knife inside a supermarket on a Spanish resort island and will be sentenced to spend time in a psychiatric institution.

A court in Santa Cruz on the Canary island of Tenerife found that Deyan Valentinov, a 20-year-old homeless Bulgarian man, had committed the act of murder but was not criminally responsible for his actions because he has acute paranoid schizophrenia.

Akenosi Igbanor, Babington Ashaye Street, Omole Ikeja, Lagos State. ‍ +23480932538: It is so disheartening that the National Youth Service Corps has yet to pay some corps members in Lagos State their allowance for the month of September to October after passing out last week. Most of the affected corps members have accounts with Access Bank and Ecobank. We don’t know if the problem is from the Federal Government or the banks. Others received their allowance two weeks ago while we have yet to receive ours. There have been rumours that we might not be paid. I hope this message gets to the right authorities.
