Arik Flight Makes Emergency Landing As Nigerian Woman Gives Birth on Plane
An Arik Air flight with over 100 passengers en route to London Sunday was forced to make an emergency landing in Palmas, Spain, as a woman went into labour and gave birth while the aircraft was airborne.The pilot was said to have requested the emergency landing on the advice of two doctors who were on board the aircraft and had helped the mother deliver the baby.

TRAGIC: Two Girls Die While Swimming In Enugu River
Two girls lost their lives while swimming in the Asata River along Bisalla Road in Enugu metropolis, Enugu State, on Saturday evening.

While the corpse of one of the victims, Chidera Nwekwe, was recovered hours after the incident, the body of the other victim had not been located as of Sunday afternoon. Her identity remained a mystery.

According to reports, a female police officer was yesterday attacked and almost strippéd nak-éd by a dreaded wealthy man.
The police officer, Inspector Tochukwu Offoegbu was allegedly on duty when the the ‘big man,’ who owns a park in Onitsha, approached her, allegedly telling her that he would facilitate her removal from Onitsha as he did to one Archibong.

New PDP Treasurer Resigns, Pledges Loyalty To Tukur's Faction
National Treasurer of the New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Alhaji Tanko Ishiaku Gwamna on Sunday announced his resignation from the national working committee of the parallel faction within the ruling party.
Accordingly, he pledged his loyalty to the national chairman of the party, Bamanga Tukur, saying the current impasse would spell doom for the party.

Orji Offers ₦20 Million, Employment To Families Of Late PDP Members
The Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, has given out N20 million as donation to the endowment fund established by the state chapter of the People’s Democratic Party in honor of the eight members who died in an auto crash during the Anambra State Gubernatorial Primaries in August.
The governor made the donation during the commendation service held at the Indoor Sport Hall of Umuahia Township Stadium, in honour of the late men.

I want all of you to fight for me –Amaechi
THE Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has called on the people of the state and Nigerians to fight for him and defend the mandate he holds in trust for them.
Amaechi explained that only the people could fight for him in a situation where the police had decided to work against him and threaten the authority given to him by them.
The governor was reacting to the roadblock mounted on Thursday by the police on Forces Avenue in Port Harcourt, a development that denied him access to the Government House for about 30 minutes.

THE political crisis in Rivers State further deepened on Saturday when the supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, said the State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, should stop playing God.
Wike made this remark during the inauguration of ward and chapter executives of the Grassroots Development Initiative in Abonnema, Rivers State.
Amaechi and the minister have been in a long drawn battle over who controls the Peoples Democratic Party in the state since the political crisis began.
The minister, who is the grand patron of the GDI, a group used to mobilise Rivers people for President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP, called on Amaechi to leave the PDP, saying, “Amaechi, pack and go. Your rent has expired.”Continue after the break.
ASUU strike: ANC gives FG seven-day ultimatum
A civil rights organisation, the Anti-Corruption Network, has given the Federal Government “one week” to resolve its dispute with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
It said it would mobilise Nigerians for a protest to the Federal Ministry of Education.
The group, which expressed disappointment at government’s lukewarm attitude to the plight of students, suggested that President Goodluck Jonathan should take loan to offset the N92bn being demanded by ASUU.

Jonathan, rebel govs in make-or-mar meeting • President won’t shift ground –Presidency
President Goodluck Jonathan and seven aggrieved Peoples Democratic Party governors will today hold a crucial meeting that will determine the future of the factionalised ruling party.
Already, there are strong indications that the peace meeting may end in a stalemate.
The first indication came from the Presidency on Friday, when it said the President would not meet any of the demands of the aggrieved governors and other members of the New PDP.
Also sounding unyielding, the National Chairman of the New PDP, Mr. Kawu Baraje, on Friday, said the aggrieved leaders of the party and the G-7 governors would give Jonathan a deadline at today’s meeting.

UPDATE: How Ex-Governor Segun Agagu kicked the bucket
It is sad but true that former Governor of Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Agagu is dead. Agagu, who had returned from the US on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes, on Friday evening.
Agagu’s former Chief Press Secretary, Yemi Olowolabi, said the former governor was not sick and had just returned from a 20-day trip abroad.
"They were having a meeting with Ondo State people. Alex Akinyele was there. He slumped. It is shocking, devastating. We will all miss him. I can’t believe he will just die.”
