Why I’m Angry With Amaechi – Patience Jonathan



For the first time, wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, gave an indication that she might be behind the crisis rocking Rivers State at the moment as she opened up on a plethora of grudges she is nursing against the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

She said her "fight" with Governor Amaechi started four years ago:  Mrs. Jonathan spoke in Abuja on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa by 16 bishops from the South-South geo-political zone.

She said, “Rivers state issue is one thing I’ve committed to prayer because I believe there is nothing God cannot do. God restored me and I’ll do his work without the fear of man.  “The truth will always remain the truth and what God ordains must come to pass and so Rivers issue is something we’ve handed over to God.’’

Auto Crash In Ondo: Two Head Teachers' Killed (Photo)



Two primary school head teachers died in an auto accident at Costain area of Ore, Odigbo Local Government, Ondo State, while returning home from their schools on Tuesday. 

The accident happened when the two friends, Igbasan Bolaji and Akinbinuade Festus of St Andrew Primary School, Oja Baale and St Mathew Primary School, Asejiri, were driving home in a Nissan Sunny car, marked ONDO AE 505 GBA, belonging to one of them.

According to a source, the driver lost control at Akinjagunla Junction, Costain, Ore and rammed into a stationary lorry with number plateLAGOS EPE 143 XB packed beside the road, killing the two friends instantly.

Heartless: Woman burns Her Son’s Face Over Soup, Stabs Him With Broken Bottle



A woman, Sakirat Attah, 25, has been arrested by the police at Elemoro Division, Lekki, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, for severely scalding her son’s face.  The petty trader who resides at Abijo village in Ibeju Lekki, allegedly carried out the dastardly act while punishing little Daniel for licking their neighbour’s soup.

It was gathered that Sakirat also used a broken bottle to stab Daniel in the head during her fit of anger and he sustained a deep cut in the head.  A police source said that the victim’s neighbours rescued him from the mother and quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital due to excessive loss of blood.

The trouble started for the little boy when their co-tenant allegedly caught him licking their pot of soup and reported him to his mother.

We won’t call off strike, ASUU tells FG



Striking university teachers on Wednesday insisted that they would not return to the classrooms until the Federal Government honoured fully the 2009 agreement and Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties.
 This came as there were conflicting reports from the University of Jos over the institution post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. While the striking teachers insisted on Wednesday that the exercise would not hold, the school authorities said the screening was in progress. University teachers under the auspices of the Academic Staff Union of Universities embarked on a nationwide industrial action on July 1, 2013.

Patience Jonathan opens up on rift with Amaechi



Contrary to her earlier denials of involvement in the political crisis rocking Rivers State, wife of   President Goodluck  Jonathan,  Patience,  on Wednesday opened up on the  matter.
She told 16 bishops from the South-South, who visited her at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, that her misunderstanding with Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, started about four years ago in Anyugubiri in Okrika when she appealed to him  to engage  her people in dialogue instead of  demolishing  a part of their community.
Mrs. Jonathan  said the governor, whom she described as   “hot tempered,” did not only ignore her advice,  he went  a step further  by  sacking the chairman of  the  local government for holding a reception in her honour.
According to her, Amaechi did not only stop at those, he imposed a   curfew on the community, which is where she hails from.

Why Appeal Court quashed the Death Sentence given to Al-Mustapha; See The Details




The Court of Appeal, Lagos quashed the death sentence that Justice Mojisola Dada of the Lagos High Court handed Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and Alhaji Lateef Shofolahan over the death of Alhaja Kudirat Abiola. The appellate court said that the court below convicted the duo at all cost despite the prosecution’s failure to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Rivers State Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari has revealed that the Minister of Education (state) Nyesom “Wike had boasted after the failed impeachment attempt at the Rivers State House of Assembly that he would set Rivers State ablaze and render it ungovernable.”

Anyway, the man who said he is fighting Governor Rotimi Amaechi because he insulted his "Jesus Christ" was on Monday night spotted in Aso Rock Presidential villa.

But what did Evans Bipi go there to do?
It seems the Presidency is looking for a means to give credibility to Hon Bipi as "fake" Speaker of the House of Assembly in Rivers State, just like they are doing with Gov Jonah Jang who lost an election.

Al-Mustapha not promoted – Nigerian Army



The authorities of the Nigerian Army have denied speculation that the former Chief Security Officer to Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha,  is to be decorated with the rank of Brig.-Gen on Wednesday (today).
 The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig.- Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, in a statement on Tuesday, described the Internet publication as erroneous.

The Court of Appeal on Friday acquitted Al-Mustapha over the killing of the wife of business mogul, MKO Abiola, Kudirat.  Attahiru said, 
“The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to an erroneous publication being circulated on the Internet about the decoration of the former Chief Security Officer to the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, Major Al-Mustapha with the rank of Brigadier-General following his recent acquittal by the court.
“The Nigerian Army wishes to advise the media to always cross check facts before going to the press to avoid misinformation, misrepresentation, and sensationalism in its reportage.”

IPhone Kills young woman



The relatives of a 23-year-old woman from northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have claimed that the woman died after being electrocuted while using her iPhone.
The older sister of victim Ma Ailun said Saturday on Sina Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, that Ma was electrocuted while trying to answer a call on her iPhone while the device was charging.
Ma Ailun bought the iPhone in December at an official Apple store and was using the original charger to recharge the phone when the incident occurred, her sister said. Ma, who was planning her wedding on August 8, fell to the floor when making a call with her iPhone 5, which was being recharged at the time, Ma’s sister said on her microblog account.
“I want to warn everyone else not to make phone calls when your mobile phone is recharging,” she tweeted.
The sister’s tweet was reposted more than 3,000 times. And the microblogging site was flooded with posts urging fellow users not to make calls while charging their phones. 
“I hope that Apple Inc. can give us an explanation,” her post reads.

Lobatan: Pastor Caught For Offering Medications To Create Persons Nearer To God



A pastor claimed that drugs provides people nearer to God, in accordance with police reports.The pastor from Fountain Hills, Arizona, was arrested for allegedly dealing heroin, methamphetamine and other drugs for what he considered for spiritual purposes.Deputies are worried that a few of his customers might have been children. Mark Derksen, 63, a youth pastor who visited nursing homes, told deputies that drugs brought his customers "nearer to God."

The pastor is really a drug addict who'd around 30 clients daily routinely giving drugs away free of charge to activate potential customers, in accordance with Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The Sheriff's Office initially suspected Derksen was selling drugs after he received a warning couple of years ago. But we did not have enough information to act on until deputies said they bought drugs while undercover from Derksen on Wednesday afternoon.

Shell shuts 624MW Afam VI Power Plant



Power generation in the country dropped further on Tuesday following the shutdown of the 624 megawatts capacity Afam VI Power Plant by the Shell Petroleum Development Company Joint Venture. Shell said in a statement that the power plant was shut down due to gas shortage arising from the closure of the Trans Niger Pipeline due to crude oil theft related leaks. The pipeline was shut in June following a fire incident. It was reopened after six days only for SPDC to on July 11 shut the pipeline again due to a leak.

The shutdown of the TNP system, comprising the 28-inch and 24-inch streams, resulted in the deferment of 150,000 barrels of oil per day and huge economic losses to the Federal Government. The Corporate Media Relations Manager, SPDC, Mr. Tony Okonedo, said the shutdown had also led to tank tops and non-evacuation of condensate from the Okoloma Gas Plant, which supplies Afam VI Power Plant with feed gas.

Police Kill Kidnapper, Rescue Two Chinese In Ogun



The Ogun State Police Command has rescued two Chinese nationals from kidnappers in Ogijo area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victims, Sung Jiang She and Zhang Wen Xue, who are employees of Lee Group of Companies, were kidnapped at Odongunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos State and taken to a house at Sagamu-Ikorodu Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told PUNCH Metro on Tuesday that the police were able to trace the kidnappers to their hideouts and a gun duel ensued during which one of the kidnappers was killed.
He said, “Around 3pm on Monday, the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2, Mammam Tsafe, called the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, informing him that two Chinese nationals had been kidnapped at Odongunya, Ikorodu, Lagos state.

There was commotion again in Rivers State as thousands  of youths  believed to be loyal to the Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, reportedly threw stones and other objects at the convoy of the Rivers State Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa. Vehicles in the convoy were conveying four northern governors – Sule Lamido (Jigawa);  Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Babangida Aliyu (Niger);  and Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano) –  who were  on a solidarity visit to Amaechi.

NLC Calls For Mass Protests Over Oil Theft



The Nigerian Labour Congress on Tuesday said it was high time Nigerians staged peaceful road shows and street protests against the continued loss of crude oil caused by pipeline vandalism, theft, illegal bunkering and political interference.

According to the congress, Nigerians have spoken for so long without concrete actions to stop crude oil losses, adding that it was time to take to the streets and demand decisive actions from the Federal Government.
The Vice President, NLC, Mr. Issa Aremu, said it was saddening that Nigeria was losing over 400,000 barrels of crude oil per day and nothing seemed to have been done to address the ugly development. Aremu spoke at a public hearing on the Petroleum Industry Bill organised by Patriots for New Nigeria Initiative in Abuja.

Cory Monteith died from heroin & alcohol overdose, coroner reveals



Glee actor Cory Monteith's autopsy result has been released. The British Columbia Coroners Service revealed that an autopsy and toxicological analysis show that 31-year-old Cory, who has struggled with addiction since he was a young teenager, died from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol.  Cory was found dead in his room at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, Canada on Saturday July 13th. He had been scheduled to check out earlier that day, but when he failed to do so, hotel staff entered his room and discovered his body.   In March this year Cory admitted himself into a treatment facility for substance addiction. Guess he didn't get the help he needed. May his soul rest in peace

Until June 23, not many could have suspected that all was not well between Emeka Agu, 28, and his pregnant girlfriend, Miss Bidemi Akinsolufe. That night, disaster struck in their home in Ayobo area of Lagos, as Emeka allegedly set his lover ablaze.
The reason? To prevent the lady from charming other men with her beauty. Police Smash Island Robbery Gang terrorising residents of Lagos Island



A combined team of policemen from Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, and Adeniji Adele Police Division has smashed a suspected robbery gang terrorizing residents of Lagos Island, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.The police team who had been on the trail of the gang launched a massive attack on the gang on Sunday which lasted for several hours on the Island.

We learnt that the leader of the gang known as Gani Mental along with two other suspected robbers were killed as a result of the injures they sustained during the exchange of fire with the police while four members of the gang were arrested and detained at SARS.
