Five Expatriates Kidnapped Off Bayelsa Coastline Freed
Five foreigners kidnapped aboard a German ship off the Niger Delta region coast in Bayelsa have regained their freedom. Some yet to be identified gunmen abducted the five expatriates aboard an oil support vessel along Sagana waterways in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa on April 26 2013.
Kidnappings and killings carried out by pirates, and former militants have increased dramatically in the area until recent times. The deployment of 20 gunboats recently acquired by Bayelsa government by the security forces has failed to reign in the rampaging pirates even as Gov. Seriake Dickson rarely stays in the state to address the worsening insecurity in his domain, often traveling to Abuja the nation’s capital to see President Goodluck Jonathan.
CIA agent detained in Moscow (PHOTOS): Scandal to aggravate Russia-US relations and hamper all attempts at cooperation after Boston
While after Boston Marathon attacks Russian and US intelligence services agreed to cooperate in the spheres of international security and counterterrorism, Tuesday detention of CIA agent Ryan C Fogle, who was sent to Moscow to recruit Russian citizens, seems to prove the contrary: The US is not yet ready to cooperate with Russia. On April 27 Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said in an interview to the Russian media that Russian special services are already assisting their US counterparts in probing the deadly Boston attacks.
Interrogation transcript
"We invited you here for a routine formality that follows the detention by the Federal Security Service (FSB) of people who committed some crime. The case in point is that at 11:30 p.m., this man calling himself a U.S. diplomat phoned an employee and offered him to spy for the United States.
The employee is a trained staff officer engaged in counterterrorist activities in the North Caucasus. After the first call, he rejected the offer. But the man phoned again and insisted that they should meet. He offered him money – 100,000 euro – for espionage. At first, we didn’t believe that this thing could happen. You know well that the FSB is actively assisting in the investigation of the Boston bombings and providing other information that threatens U.S. national security.

‘Dokubo-Asari Should Learn From Civil War’
Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Gujungu, the National President of the Kaduna-based Arewa Youth Forum (AYF), in this interview with Regional Editor Northwest, Hassan Ibrahim, expresses dismay at the recent comments (Click Here to watch If you missed it) by Mujahid Dukobo-Asari, leader of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Force (NDPVF), that there will be crisis if the Goodluck Jonathan presidency did not continue in 2015. Excerpts:
Dokubo-Asari recently threatened to ensure that Nigeria will no longer know peace if President Goodluck Jonathan is not returned as president in 2015. What is your take on this?
Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have taken issue with Dokubo, but it seems that silence is no longer golden. Looking at his antecedent as a militant, during the amnesty programme in Niger Delta and after he was granted amnesty by late President Umaru Yar’Adua, we have come to the conclusion that he is not somebody that should be taken seriously in the Nigerian polity.
