Abuja shutdown is illegal – Gbajabiamila

The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Monday decried the Federal Government’s decision to shut down the nation’s capital, Abuja, for the World Economic Forum.
He said the government’s action was illegal and could not be defended in law.
The forum holds in Abuja between Wednesday and Friday this week.
The government has ordered the closure of its offices for the period except for those providing essential services.
It also advised private organisations with large number of employees to shut down for the three days.
But, Gbajabiamila faulted the decision, saying that it breached the Public Holidays Act.
“This government continues to falter at every turn and gets it wrong on daily basis,” a statement by his research aide, Mr. Wasiu Olanrewaju-Smart, quoted the minority leader as saying.

State Gov in trouble over illegal importation of weapons

Zamfara State Governor Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar has been accused of purchasing guns and ammunition for the purpose of arming vigilance groups. Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Sha’aba Lafiagi made the allegation in the Senate yeterday during a debate on a motion entitled: “The plan of the Zamfara State Governor to arm vigilance groups in the state with rifles.”
The upper chamber was, however, divided as some Senators supported the governor’s efforts to secure the state while others argued that the matter should not be narrowed down to Zamfara, but to other states facing similar security challenges.
However, the Senate, in its resolution, urged President Goodluck Jonathan to deploy more security personnel in Zamfara and other states facing similar security challenges. Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed, alongside 46 other Senators, sponsored the motion.

Fake drugs, unaccredited varsities, illegal buildings...Nigeria in carnival of counterfeits - Photos

With Nigeria struggling as much as it can to redeem its image in the global community, the nation still finds it difficult to curtail the ravenous ruins caused by the army of quacks in various segments of her national life. KEHINDE OYETIMI reports.

HER situation looked hopeless and precarious. As she slept on the sofa, her mother wondered if miracles still happened. Anna’s health had deteriorated so rapidly that those who saw her a week before immediately beseeched whatever extraterrestrial powers that they knew to come to the ill girl’s aid. Weeks gave birth to months and her condition only worsened. Her father (Chukwudi), a self-proclaimed pharmacist, had dealt over the years in illicit drugs, and had sold same to many unsuspecting buyers. His family was oblivious of his dealings; they had trusted him implicitly. He had met with his friends hoping that they could help. He moved Anna to various medical centres but she was referred from one hospital to another. Anna’s father could no longer afford the bills; he took his daughter home, resorted to spiritual help and resigned to fate.

Pictures of Illegal Refineries in Bayelsa State

Reuters photographer Akintunde Akinleye recently gained rare access to an illegal oil refinery near the river Nun in Nigeria's oil state of Bayelsa. There, he was able to document the secret and dangerous practice of oil bunkering, where locals hack into oil pipelines, steal the crude oil, and refine or sell it abroad. For over 50 years now, crude oil and natural gas have been extracted from the Niger Delta by large corporations, which have had their share of environmental disasters. The ongoing damage from the tapped pipes and these makeshift refineries continue to take a terrible toll on the environment and the local population.
This is really serious, you need to see the pictures yourself!!
