NYSC redeploys corps members from Borno, Kano, Yobe, others



The National Youth Service Corps on Thursday announced the redeployment of corps members from seven northern states.

The affected states are Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Jigawa, Kano and Yobe states.

A statement on Thursday in Abuja by the Director of Public Relations in NYSC, Mrs. Bose Aderibigbe, said the decision followed the high rate of insecurity in some parts of the North.

The corps members are part of the  2014 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course  scheduled to commence next week Tuesday August 5, 2014.

The NYSC said due to logistic reasons, the orientation course will be conducted in two streams for different states.

65 properties razed, Dozens Injured as PDP followers clash in Benue



MAKURDI— ABOUT 65 houses were razed, yesterday, rendering many homeless with others injured as People’s Democratic Party, PDP, supporters clashed in Loko, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.
The latest crisis in Katsina-Ala is coming on the heels of moves by the people of Loko and PDP to recall Mrs Hembadon Amena representing Katsina-Ala West constituency in Benue State House of Assembly over alleged anti-party activities.

Peter Anyiman an indigene of Benue State was lucky enough to have his State Governor as his best man at his wedding last Saturday. The Governor said Mr Peter is a very diligent man who deserves to be honoured. According to him, Mr Peter who is a cook, serving Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Michael Tumba in Abuja had demonstrated a true commitment to his duties for 18 years and deserved to be honoured. Just like a best man would do, he helped the groom to adjust his tie and also cleaned his face at intervals.

WAEC Office Stormed as Teachers Protest in Benue



Teachers stormed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) office in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, on August 19, 2013, Monday. The operation of the examination body has been completely paralysed due to the protest.

The teachers claimed that the state’s WAEC office in Makurdi owes them two months allowances because they had marked this year’s examination papers. According to them, their colleagues from other states across the country have since been paid the allowances.

Man Gets DEATH Sentence For Stealing JEEP In Benue - What's Your Point Of View On This??




A High Court sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has sentenced a middle-aged man, one Tersoo Terna, to death by hanging  for stealing a Toyota Hilux Jeep belonging to a clergyman.

Justice Adam Onum, on Thursday, convicted the robber for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

The robber, according to the state prosecuting counsel, Mrs Jean Abba Ewurum, had told the court that the convict and three others now at large, conspired, attacked and robbed one Reverend  Peter Azuana of NKST at Mkar in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State in  May 2012.

Fulani herdsmen kill over 50 mourners in Agatu, Benue state



Over 50 mourners were killed yesterday Sunday May 12th in Benue State by Fulani herdsmen who attacked them as they buried their dead. The herdsmen stormed Okpachanyi village in Agatu local government area of the state and opened fire on the mourners, killing at least 50 of them. Others escaped with serious injuries.
The mourners had gathered to bury two of the policemen killed last week Tuesday by Ombatse cult members in Nassarawa state. Anarchy in our land!

Three fraudsters attempt to swindle Benue State Government of ₦495 Million





An attempt to defraud the Benue State Government of three million dollars (about N495 million) by three men who posed as Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials has been foiled by the Department of State Security (DSS) operatives in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Parading the suspected fraudsters before journalists, DSS Director, Rashidi Adedirun, disclosed that the conmen were apprehended by men under his unit.
He added that they pretended to be EFCC operatives while trying to blackmail some top government officials in order to actualise their objective of extorting funds from them.
Adedirun revealed the identity of the culprits as Mark Gbaa from Buruku Local Government of the state and Bulus Ashom and Nuhu Bawa from Plateau State.

Former Benue State Governor and Present Senator Dragged To Court Over Alleged Certificate Forgery



Former governor of Benue State and Senator representing Benue North-West Senatorial District of Benue State, George Akume, has been brought before a Federal High Court in Abuja over allegation of certificate forgery.

Akume was dragged before the court by one Phillip Agbese through his counsel, Amobi Nzelu. Agbese, a civil right activist, is praying for a declaration that Akume did not possess the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate number SCO 39633 allegedly issued to him by Government Secondary School Oturkpo, Benue State in 1971.

Benue/Ebonyi Communities’ Conflict: 15-year- old Boy Shot in the Head by Mercenaries



The communal conflict between Ngwo people of Ebonyi State and the Agilas in Ado local government area of Benue state, yesterday, left a 15-year-old JSS student of Government Secondary School, GSS Agila, Edwin Aboh, battling for his life after he was shot in the head by unknown assailants.
Saturday we gathered from sources that Aboh was shot on his way to school by his attackers who were suspected to be mercenaries from Ngwo. Our source confirmed that the student who was badly wounded and said to be in critical condition is presently receiving treatment at the Igumale General Hospital, headquarters of Ado local government council.

Pastor Pulls Out Gun On Church Accountant In Benue



The Benue State Police Command, yesterday, arrested the pastor of a new generation church in Katsina-Ala (names withheld) for illegal possession of fire arms and assault on the church’s accountant.
Vanguard gathered from sources that the pastor was apprehended with the firearm by men of the Benue State Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, in Katsina-Ala where he allegedly tried to kill the accountant of the church, Mr. Philip Toryila, during a serious disagreement over money.

Residents Flee Gboko In Benue State After Boko Haram Kingpin Was Traced To Their Community




After a kingpin of the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram, Ali Jalingo, was trailed to Agase community, a suburb of Gboko in Benue state, residents of the community have fled their homes for fear of reprisal attacks. According to reports, the Boko Haram leader’s hideout in Agase was traced by security operatives who came in the midnight to pull down his hose but couldn’t arrest him. Residents said they were woken up by sounds of gunshot n the middle of the night.

19 Women Raped At Refugee Camps For Flood Victims In Benue State

It was double jeopardy for 19 female refugees at various resettlement camps in Benue State who were raped by men not bothered by the discomforting displacement they are suffering as a result of the flood. Cases of rape have been reported in four of the designated camps.
The incident may have heightened the woes of the people who were displaced from their various homes by the flood that has ravaged many parts of the country, as they are already cumbered by congestion, hunger, physiological inconveniences, and possible epidemic.
Some of the state governments, like Delta State, have introduced mobile clinics within the camps, to handle any health challenge of the displaced people.
