Boko Haram Will Fade Out Gradually – Omeri




Nigerians have been told by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri, that the current spate of violence in the country was built up over time and as such, will take an equally gradual process to imbibe a total culture of peace and stability. Omeri who said this at a forum to mark his one year in office, added that the efforts being made across the states by the agency will not be in vain as many Nigerians are hungry for peace.He however called for greater efforts from Nigerians across board to sustain and promote different campaigns especially at the grassroot level, on taking the right actions to eliminate corruption and promote peaceful growth and development.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Party of Nigeria, PPN, Mr Abiodun Sunday Odusanya is dead.
The cause of his death is still uncertain as at the time of this post. P

WARNING: Excess Consumption of Meat Shortens life- Physician



The Medical Director, Medical Art Centre, Lagos, Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, has warned that excess consumption of meat could reduce life expectancy. Ashiru, who spoke at the Vanguard Allure Wellness Seminar in Lagos on Friday, said though meat is a rich source of protein, too much of it in a diet pose long term cardiovascular risks.He noted that excess consumption of meat was associated with declining kidney function and gout as well as increased risks of heart disease and cancer.According to him, patients treating the aforementioned diseases must reduce their intake of meat.

Hypertension, now killing young Nigerians – Experts



Medical personnel have raised the alarm that young people in their 30s now die daily of hypertension, a disease often described as a silent killer, BUKOLA ADEBAYO writes.Before now, hypertension usually signposted by high blood pressure, was not too common among the young.  But physicians in the nation’s hospitals said that young Nigerians in their 30s and 40s are now becoming the victims of the deadly disease. This, they said, was due to ignorance and poor management of the ailment.

Deep in the Costa Rican jungle, a fisherman named Chito discovered a crocodile that had been shot in the eye by a cattle farmer and left to die.Chito was able to drag the massive reptile into his boat and brought him to his home, where he stayed by his side for months, nursing him back to health. He named the crocodile Pocho. “I stayed by Pocho’s side while he was ill, sleeping next to him at night.He and Chito play, wrestle and hug on a daily basis. 18-Year-Old Boy Stabs Neighbour To Death For Sleeping With His Girlfriend




A teenager from Matobo district, Zimbabwe fatally stabbed a neighbour after suspecting that he was having an affair with his girlfriend, police have reported.Jokoniya Moyo (18) proceeded to Elliot Ncube’s house in the same area at about 1am where Evidence Ncube (27) was staying and started assaulting him. Ncube tried to flee but Moyo caught up with him and stabbed him once on the left shoulder. Ncube died as a result of excessive bleeding.

Immigration Comptroller General, Rose Uzoma, retired from service



Mrs. Rose Chinyere Uzoma, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), was today Tuesday 15th January retired from the service following the controversy that trailed the recruitment exercise of the agency.
A letter conveying her retirement was signed by the Minister of Interior and Chairman of CDFIPB, Comrade Abba Moro. Mrs Uzoma will be temporarily replaced by her deputy, Mr. Rilwan Bala Musa, pending when the agency gets a new Comptroller General.

17-Yr-Old SS2 Girl Committed Suicide After Being Caught In Boy’s House In Kaduna



For fear of facing the shame of being caught in a boy’s house, a 17-year-old SS2 student, Christiana Silas, decided to commit suicide by taking a dose of insecticide in Karatudu area, Gonin Gora, Kaduna state, last christmas. Prior to the suicidal action, we gathered that the teenager was caught in a boy’s room in the neighourhood after being declared missing for hours.  The late girl allegedly disappeared from the house at about 9pm on Christmas day without disclosing her whereabouts to anyone.

5-year-old boy sent away from school for having long hair (PICTURED)




The school, Roberts Road Elementary, in Hockley had turned away a 5-year-old boy for sporting a long hair during enrollment, as reported by local news, Thursday, January 10. The boy’s mother, Ursula Martin, said that her son’s hair was not a problem in the previous school that he came from. The family had just moved to Hockley. Martin could not understand how the length of his son’s hair could affect his education. Martin said: “He doesn’t feel like he should have to cut his hair to go to school.”

12 Policemen Killed, Two Injured in Lagos, Kano



It was another black weekend for officers of the Nigeria Police Force, as armed robbers allegedly killed about 10 of them in different parts of Lagos State. In Kano State, the story was also the same as some unidentified gunmen allegedly shot dead two policemen and injured two others at Kawo Tishama, an outskirt of Kano metropolis.
The death of the policemen, it was gathered, had increased the recent death toll of officers, who died in the course of duty within the last two years to 42.

Imo Deputy Gov Aide Kidnapped, Murdered




The protocol officer to the Imo State Deputy Governor, Chief Laz Anyanwu was yesterday evening found dead in Owerri four days after he was reportedly kidnapped near Government House, Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Anyanwu, a former director of administration and services in Ohaji-Egbema Local Government Area was discovered dead along a bush path at Nwaoriebe in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State yesterday afternoon.
