Working mothers face the challenge of breast- feeding their children up to the required six months and many factors contribute to this. Blessing Ukemena finds out from doctors why this breast milk is so important even as mothers lament what they pass through.

Only about 13 per cent of Nigerian children are exclusively breastfed for up to six months. This is according to a UNICEF research conducted in Nigeria in August 2012. A development which points to the fact that most Nigerian children are deprived of this essential form of nutrition.  Speaking to Dr. Folayun, a pediatrician at the Zankli Medical center, she said that working mothers rarely breastfeed their children to the required six months sometimes due to no fault of theirs. “The number one factor against this six months exclusive breastfeeding or ‘baby friendly’ is that most work places only give a period of three months maternity leave which is not enough.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today released two Imo state officials on "administrative bail". The two Imo state officials were arrested on Wednesday over a N47 billion loan transaction undertaken by Governor Rochas okorocha.  EFCC sources told Saharareporters that Imo state commissioner of finance, Deacon Okafor Chike John and the accountant general of the state, Eche Ezenna George were granted bail around 5.30pm today after they showed up with  three sureties, comprising a deputy director in the Federal Capital Territory, a  director in Imo Laison Office and the Liaison Officer in Abuja. The source did not disclose when the officials are expected to return to the EFCC or if and when they will be charged to court.

The Ogun State police command yesterday [Jan. 10] arraigned a 52-year-old woman, Mrs. Kehinde Olubanke, before an Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court sitting in Isabo, for allegedly crushing a 28-year-old youth corps member to death. Olubanke was said to have committed the crime by driving and speeding dangerously in her Nissan Almera car, thereby causing the untimely death of the youth corps member identified as Egbe Ogbu, who was serving in the state.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday sacked the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and former Governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, from office. After a kingpin of the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram, Ali Jalingo, was trailed to Agase community, a suburb of Gboko in Benue state, residents of the community have fled their homes for fear of reprisal attacks. According to reports, the Boko Haram leader’s hideout in Agase was traced by security operatives who came in the midnight to pull down his hose but couldn’t arrest him. A 50-year-old man who bears the same name as a former governor of Oyo State was arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly biting off the left ear of a journalist, Saheed Ganiyu. Alao Akala bit off Ganiyu’s ear when he was investigating the background of late political godfather of Kwara politics, Dr. Olusola Saraki. Another journalist, Rasaki Olayiwola was also reportedly hit on the head with a camcorder stand by the accused.
