The committee which is chaired by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, it was learnt, had also been unable to meet  because some of its members  were on  other national assignments.

The names of a  former National Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, and other ex-convicts, are still on the national honours list,  The PUNCH has learnt.

Other prominent convicts whose names are  on the list  are a  former Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun;  ex-Managing Director of Oceanic Bank, Cecilia Ibru; her former counterpart in the defunct Intercontinental Bank, Erastus Akingbola; and  other ex-managing directors of banks  convicted after they were conferred with the  national honours.

OPERATIVES from the London Metropolitan Police are to give evidence when the trial of the Chairman, Bi-Courtney Highway Services, Dr. Wale Babalakin, finally begins at a Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
A senior lawyer privy to the goings-on in the case told our correspondent on Sunday that the Met police investigated the involvement of Babalakin and others in the alleged laundering of N4.7bn on behalf of the convicted former governor of the state, James Ibori.

The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, Akwa Ibom State Command, has extolled the state’s joint taskforce – ‘Operation Thunder’ for impounding a commercial bus conveying India hemp.
 The bus, a Toyota Hiace, with number plate SB 490 AFM belongs to Akwa Ibom Transport Company Limited.

Suspected Gang Members Stab Informant 20 Times





An 18-year-old boy, Edward Egigi, is presently writhing in pains after being stabbed over 20 times by hoodlums suspected to be part of a notorious gang known as Downtown Boys in Somolu, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro had reported on November 27, 2012 that the suspected leader of the gang, Ibrahim Balogun, also known as Small Jpron, was arrested by the police in the area and transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad at the police command headquarters.

Mother of five jailed for stealing jewelry





An Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday sentenced a 27-year-old woman to two years’ imprisonment for stealing jewellery worth N800,000,
The Magistrate, Mrs M.R, Osho-Adebiyi, convicted Mosurat Ismalia on two counts of conspiracy and stealing and did not give her an option of fine.

On October 13, 2012, Nigerian actor and movie producer Babatunde Omidina better known as Baba Suwe was taken into custody and detained by officers of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency under the assumption that he was in possession of hard drugs believed to be cocaine. Baba Suwe was arrested at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, on his way to Paris, France to attend a naming ceremony of an Air France staff scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2011. He was supposed to be the master of ceremony at the event.

A terrified woman has revealed her disgust at discovering her boyfriend of two years had repeatedly rapéd her while she slept. Naomi Hampson, 27, only found out she had regularly fallen victim to sick Robert Fryer when police raided the couple's home.Her perverted boyfriend would sedate her and often paint her nails and dress her in jewellery before taking photographs of his revolting acts and saving them on his computer.

A teacher allegedly struck his wife with a brick on the forehead after she sang him a birthday song while still in bed. The wife intended to surprise him by singing a birthday song, but she was struck with a brick for making noise. Takura Nyikadzino (31) struck Janet Matizanadzo (29) on the forehead after she sang him a birthday song while he was asleep.  Janet reportedly went to the bedroom where Nyikadzino was sleeping with the intention of wishing him "happy birthday" on turning 31.

Parents Sell Their 11-Year-Old Daughter To A 76-Year-Old Man For S*x





An 11-year-old British girl was allegedly pimped out as a prostitute by her ex-pat parents for £12 a time.
Police arrested the couple on the holiday island of Majorca amid claims they sold the girl, now 15, to a 76-year-old man in exchange for money over a five-year period. It is understood the mother took her daughter to meet the man on each occasion, with amounts changing hands varying between £12 and £16, according to The Sun.

The Nigeria  Weightlifting Federation is at the moment grappling with the allegation that a Cameroon national, John Baptis, competed for Anambra State in the weightlifting event (77 kg category) of the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival. Sports Vanguard checks at the Brai Ayonote Boxing Gym, venue of the weightlifting event, confirmed that the weightlifter achieved the best lift in the snatch event. With a body weight of 74.75kg, the lifter achieved the best snatch with a weight of 132 kg.

California Governor Jerry Brown on Thursday named four new Superior Court judges for the Central Valley. Among the judicial appointments announced was the appointment of 48-year-old Nigerian woman, Bunmi O. Awoniyi in Elk Grove, California.  According to Centralvalleybusinesstimes, of the four, three replace judges who have retired and the fourth fills a long-standing vacancy.
