Minister of Health debunks rumours of Ebola cases in Abuja and Calabar




 Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu has debunked rumours of Ebola cases in Abuja and Calabar and said the case in Kaduna continues to be under investigation. He also stated that another patient has been discharged from the Isolation center in Lagos after being certified free from the deadly virus.  He addressed issues in some tweets via his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr Dan Nwomeh. Rivers State releases 300million Naira to fight Ebola in the state




Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi announced today that his administration has released over N300million to fight the Ebola virus in the state.  Amaechi disclosed this while speaking with the Country Director of the World Health Organization, WHO, Mr. Rui Vaz, at the government house in Port Harcourt.

“Whatever it takes for us to overcome Ebola, please, I will do it because it costs more if Ebola is on the loose than if it is contained. So, we are happy that the World Health Organization is here to assist Rivers State. We are happy that the World Health Organization appreciates the dangers of Ebola to our communities. We need to contain Ebola. If there is no cure, then there is containment so that more persons don’t contract it. The Rivers State Government is prepared to take all the responsibility. The citizens are ours,” Amaechi said.

Woman arraigned in Lagos court for jilting lover



43-year-old events planner Omolola Shittu (pictured right), has been dragged before a Magistrate court in Lagos state for allegedly jilting and stealing from her 55 year old ex-lover, Prince Hilary Unachukwu.

According to Vabguard, Omolola, who was charged alongside one Raphael Oge, 51, on a three-count charge bothering on stealing and threat to life of her ex-lover, pleaded not guilty in court and was remanded in prison custody till she meets her bail conditions.

Fire razes 40 homes at Police barracks in Lagos



Fire has raised about 40 apartments at the Ijeh Police Barracks in Obalende Lagos state PM News reports. The explanation for the fire outbreak is yet to be determined. Here is the same barracks a officer died on Friday August 29th after he was pushed down a building by his wife during a fight. The officer died before getting to a medical facility while his widow continues to be in the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital.

Suspected Kaduna Ebola case tests negative






Yesterday there were reports a student of Law at Ahmadu Bello University, showed apparent symptoms of the deadly Ebola virus, but fortunately he's tested negative to the virus. Based on Premium Times, authorities of ABU and the Kaduna State Government had sent the patient's blood to Lagos for testing after he reportedly manifested some symptoms related to Ebola while on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital.

APC asks GEJ to hand over alleged sponsors of Boko Haram to the Int'l Criminal Court



The National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Oyegun, has asked Pres. Jonathan to arrest and hand over all those Australian Hostage Negotiator Stephen Davis, alleged to be sponsors of Boko Haram to the International Criminal Court. Oyegun said this while speaking with journalists in Abuja yesterday
"The man who exposed the boko haram sponsors is a Jonathan appointed, paid, hostage negotiator so he definitely has no axe to grind. He was certainly not speaking on behalf of the APC because we didn't know he existed until out of frustration he finally decided to speak up. Now that the cat has been let out of the bag and the real sponsors of Boko Haram have been exposed, we hope President Jonathan is summoning the courage today to do what is right. Hand over the identified boko haram sponsors to the international criminal court for investigation and prosecution" he said

PDP Fires back over Sheriff, Ihejirika; says Australian’s revelations prove APC behind Boko Haram





Nigeria’s ruling party, The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has hit back at the opposition All Progressives Congress, after the APC said recent allegations by a government-appointed Boko Haram negotiator, show that senior PDP members and allies of President Goodluck Jonathan are masterminds of the sect. At a press conference Tuesday, the APC demanded the immediate trial of a former governor of Borno State, Modu Sheriff, a PDP member; and a former army chief, Azubuike Ihejirika.

31 year old man arraigned in Court for sharing bad statements about Ogun state Governor on Facebook





A 31 year old man named Wasiu Ogunnoiki was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu yesterday September 2nd for allegedly posting negative remarks about the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun on his Facebook wall. Ogunnoiki is alleged to have posted a message on Facebook saying that the state Governor had demolished the houses of some citizens without compensating them accordingly, a statement the government say they find unacceptable, and could incite the citizens against the governor.

Widow, 3 others who rob motorist along Mile2/Badagry Rd Nabbed





A widow and three men who are members of a robbery gang that specialize in terrorizing and robbing motorists along the Mile2/Badagry Expressway, have been arrested by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos State Police Command.

The robbers; Sera Emmanuel (31) the widow, Ismaila Morufu (30), Musaalobi Abdullahi (29) and Opeyemi Akinyemi (30), were arrested on August 27th along the Sango-Ifo road by Iyana-Iyesi in Ogun state.

The armed-robbers allegedly confessed to operating daily at some bad spots around Mile 2/Badagry Expressway, Mile 2/Apapa Expressway, Agege/Oshodi, Oworonsoki, Alapere, Bariga, Ikeja and Onipanu.

PhotoNews: Ongoing protest at Benin-Ore Expressway by students



  Students of the College of Education, Ogwaruo, Benin, are still causing traffic gridlock on the Benin-Ore Expressway. Based on a OOB reader in Benin who submitted the photos, the students are not allowing cars ply the high way. He explained the students are protesting no results, no good roads, no power, that their school is similar to a poultry without any authority.

Law enforcement have moved to the location but haven't had the oppertunity to disperse the students. See more photos after the jump.

British William Pooley infected with Ebola, has been discharged



William Pooley, the 1st British National who tested positive to the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone on August 23rd has been discharged from the Royal Free Hospital in London. He was discharged today September 3rd after being successfully treated with the experimental drug, ZMapp
The 29 year old volunteer nurse was transported from Sierra Leone to England on August 24th, a day after he tested positive.

I will sue Australian negotiator who said I sponsor Boko Haram - Alimodu Sheriff




Former Borno state governor Alimodu Sheriff, who was accused by Australian Boko Haram negotiator Stephen Davis of being a sponsor of Boko Haram, held a press conference which ended a few minutes ago where he addressed the accusations. He denied the claims and said he plans to sue Mr Davis. He said the campaign against him is 'callous and unwarranted' and those linking him with the sect are "either ignorant or completely out for mischief".

Suspected Ebola Victim passes on In Abuja Hospital





A patient suspected to have been infected with the deadly Ebola virus has died at the Asokoro Hospital Abuja.

The suspected patient, who exhibited symptoms similar to those of persons infected with the virus died at the hospital last Friday. Following the death of the patient, the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital where the patient was being treated has been cordoned off and the accident and emergency unit has been temporarily relocated to the General outpatient unit (GOPD). Similarly, a list of all medical staff who had come in contact with the patient has been compiled and they are all under surveillance.

2014 Big Brother Africa Hotshots Postponed until further notice after House got Burnt -





The 2014 edition of Big Brother Africa reality show has been postponed after a devastating fire incident at the Big Brother House. Big Brother Africa Hotshots was to launch this Sunday 7th September. Here's the press release from M-Net:
"M-Net and Endemol SA advise that due to a devastating fire at the Big Brother house on 2 September 2014, Big Brother Hotshots will not launch this Sunday (7 September) as scheduled. The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown and investigations will commence as soon as it is safe to do so. 
At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother
house in which to film the production, however as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements an alternative is not immediately available.  Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue. 
  • Where is the BBA house? 
It is based at the Sesani Studios in Johannesburg 
  • Was anyone injured in the fire?
No one was injured during the fire. As more information unfolds, we will communicate.

Impeached Enugu Deputy Gov Redeployed to Civil Service



Enugu state Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime congratulates his newly sworn-in deputy,Rev.Ifeanyi Nwoye -

 Enugu State government has re-deployed impeached deputy governor, Sunday Onyebuchi, to the state civil service. This came as Governor Sullivan Chime yesterday swore in his new deputy, Reverend Raphael Ifeanyichukwu Nwoye. The governor announced the redeployment of the former deputy governor to the State Civil Service as a deputy director on Grade Level 15. Onyebuchi was in the civil service before being appointed to political office by the Nnamani administration. -

Kaduna Govt confirms there’s suspected case of Ebola at ABU





The Kaduna State Government has confirmed that there is indeed a suspected case of Ebola Virus Disease in the state. This is contrary to the claim by the claim by Dan Nwomeh, the spokesperson to the Minister of Health than an earlier report by this newspaper on the matter was false. PREMIUM TIMES had reported that a 19- year old student of Law at the Ahmadu Bello University was suspected to be down with the deadly Ebola virus in Kaduna and was on admission at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, ABUTH. As indicated in the report, Bilyaminu Umar, spokesperson for ABUTH, confirmed the development. But no sooner than our report was published than the spokesperson to the Minister, Mr. Nwomeh, took to the social media to say the story was false.

Photos: Ebola Patient Flees Clinic In Search For Food





A shocking video has emerged which shows the moment an Ebola patient who escaped quarantine in search of food was recaptured and forced into the back of a truck. The footage, broadcast by Sky News, was captured in Monrovia, Liberia, in West Africa, which is currently in the grip of an Ebola epidemic.

The man had escaped from Monrovia's Elwa hospital, (which last month was so crowded with cases of the deadly disease that it had to turn people away), to visit a market. He was wearing a red shirt and a wristband that told people he has tested positive for Ebola. There were chaotic scenes as crowds followed the infected man, and some stallholders argued with him as he approached them.
