RIP: Jim Iyke's mum dies (PHOTOS)



 Nollywood actor Jim Iyke is currently grieving over the loss of his mother. The actor lost his mother, Mrs Esomugha, on 1st of April, 2014. Report says she had been having serious health challenges for some time. She visited India for treatment before finally passing away.

The Director General of Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bimbo Daramola, on Thursday alleged that some suspected political thugs, said to be part of the crowd of supporters that followed former Governor Ayo Fayose, when he returned to Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, shot a member  of the All Progressives Congress.
Fayose is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the June 21 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Obanikoro Has Invaded Lagos with heavily armed Soldiers Says Fashola




Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola on Wednesday said that Minister of State for Defence Senator Musliu Obanikoro has invaded Lagos with heavily armed soldiers to stop the state from delivering on its housing projects to the people of the state.
Fashola made the observation at an occasion to mark his 2,500 days in office. He alleged that Obanikoro, a few days ago, accompanied by some soldiers, stormed the site of the Illubirin Housing scheme in Lagos Island, where the state government is planning 1,188 flats.


EFCC drills Stella Oduah over bulletproof scandal



Former Aviation Minister, Stella Oduah, was yesterday April 2nd invited by men of the Intelligence and Special Operations Unit of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, where she was subjected to a 5-hour question drill as regards the $1.6m BMW bullet-proof car purchase scandal that rocked the Aviation Ministry when she served as Minister of Aviation.

Oduah, who arrived the Idiagbon House Headquarters' of the EFFC office in Abuja at about 10.05am, was there till about 3pm.

Congolese student plunges to death in US over Marijuana overdose.



A kid who couldn't handle weed died on March 11th after plunging from a hotel balcony in Colorado.

According to Denver Medical examiner, 19 year old exchange student from Republic of Congo, Levi Thamba Pongi (pictured above) jumped to his death after eating a marijuana cookie that his friend legally purchased in one  of Colorado's recreational pot shops, marking the very first time since recreational marijuana was legalized in their state that eating pot was listed as a “contributing factor” is someone's death.
His friends told investigators that Pongi ate the cookie and "exhibited hostile behavior" that included pulling things off walls and speaking erratically. Attempts by the three friends to calm Pongi did actually work until he went outside and jumped off the balcony railing, based on the report.

The late teen have been visiting Colorado with friends while on Spring Break in March. Investigators think that Levi and his companions made the visit to Colorado specifically to sample the state's legally available marijuana, including pot cookies.

But the trip ended with Levi Thamba plunging off a Holiday Inn balcony after experiencing a bad reaction to consuming a pot cookie, authorities say.

Boat carrying 28 passengers capsize in Ikorodu, 8 dead



 A ferry carrying 28 people yesterday around 8.30 capsized in a Lagoon in Majidun part of Ikorodu in Lagos, leaving 8 people dead, 12 rescued and 6 yet to be accounted for. All the occupants of the boat were working class people have been heading home after the close of work.

The ferryboat which fit in with Bell Marine Company began its journey from Ebute-Ero under the Eko Bridge around 6pm and headed for Ikorodu when it hit a stone and capsized.

Lagos Court orders FG, police, to pay Sanusi ₦50million damages



A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the Federal Government and the Nigerian police to pay for suspended Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, N50million as exemplary damages for unlawfully detaining him and seizing his passport on February 20th. The court also asked the authorities to immediately return his passport and warned them against arresting or harassing him again.

544 Nigerians "voluntarily" Return From Switzerland – Swiss Govt





The Swiss Federal Office of Migration (FOM) says a total of 544 Nigerian nationals previously living in Switzerland returned home in 2013 under its Voluntary Return and Reintegration Programme (VRRP).

This is contained in a statement issued by the FOM at the end the 5th Meeting of the Technical Committee for the Swiss-Nigerian migration partnership on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the statement, Nigeria is the third main country of origin for asylum seekers in Switzerland in 2013 with 1,764 asylum applications.

Just in: Japheth Omojuwa, Uche Briggs, regain freedom



 Security officials have released popular blogger and youths activist Japheth Omojuwa, Uche Briggs and four others hours after they were arrested in Abuja for leading a protest over the deaths of 17 youths through the nationwide recruitment tests by the Nigeria Immigration Service.

All of them were released around 8pm tonight, with their phones handed back to them. The authorities asked them to report back tomorrow morning. Continue...

Four Men Gang-R*pe, Collect Woman’s Private Part In Enugu For ₦600,000



A 35-year-old woman, Miss Ngozi Eze was molested by four men, killed and her parts of the body severed for rituals at Enugu-Ezike, Igbo-Eze North Local Government Part of Enugu State.  As during the time of filling this report, the Umuagama Community Neighborhood Watch in Enugu Ezike has apprehended the four suspected ritualists in experience of the incident. 

Japheth Omojuwa & Uche Briggs arrested for leading protest over NIS tragedy



 Public speaker, blogger and activist Japheth Omojuwa was arrested this afternoon in Abuja alongside Uche Briggs for leading a protest for victims of the Nigerian Immigration Service employment test that took put on March 10th. 

The 2 men and another person were taken up to NSCDC office and you can find reports that these were beaten by NSCDC officers at their headquarters. They've since been taken to  SSS office in Asokoro. See some tweets speaking about the arrest after the break...

Sack letter over freedom of association at Nnamdi Azikiwe University



 House Officers at the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State are increasingly being threatened to getting sacked by 4pm today over joining the Association of Resident Doctors in the state. Management of NAUTH yesterday April 1 posted a notice telling doctors they'd only 24hours to rescind their decision to participate the association or risk the withdrawal of the internship programme.

The children he sold ranged from N450,000 to N750,000 depending on the s3x of the child. A male child attracted higher prices.The Rev said he was involved in only two deals which fetched him only N46,000 interest

Based on a Punch report, a policeman mounted on the Plateau State Police Command was dismissed yesterday from the police after being found guilty of luring and r*ping a 4-year-old girl identified as Helen.
 
Around 9pm on March 26th, corporal Damudu Bzibu (pictured above), allegedly lured the litttle girl and r*ped her in Kassa Barakin Ladi Local Government Area.

No Indigent student will be Denied Education in Lagos State. Gov. Fashola



Lagos State Government has offered to help any new student of the State’s University who stands the risk of losing his/her admission as a result of indigene and any current student who may have problem coping with the fees due to the same reason.

The government explaining its principle of “No child must be left behind” said, it has since the introduction of new fees regime in the Lagos State University three years ago consecutively doubled its budget for scholarship for its residents to enable indigent students have access to education. This is in addition to providing bursary award to all indigenes in higher institutions across the country.
