Nigeria asks UN Al Qaeda committee to blacklist Boko Haram
Nigeria has formally asked the UN Security Council al Qaeda sanctions committee to blacklist the Islamist militant group Boko Haram after the kidnapping of hundreds of schoolgirls, a UN diplomat said on Tuesday.
If there are no objections from the 15-member council committee, which operates by consensus, Boko Haram will be sanctioned at 3 pm EDT (1900 GMT) on Thursday, the diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has provided a detailed 102-page documented response to the 50 questions posed by the House of Representatives Committee on Finance. The document provides, in extensive detail, including tables and graphs, answers to the committee’s well publicized questions.
In her response, the Minister stressed that, in spite of many challenges which government has acknowledged, the Nigerian economy is showing real and measurable progress in many areas. This can be seen in the fact that more jobs are being created; roads, rail and other infrastructure are being improved; the country is saving for the future and planning better for the present. The house of Representatives committee on Aviation, will today conclude hearing on the buying of two armoured cars for the aviation minister, Stella Oduah, for N255 million. The hearing was adjourned from yesteday, Wednesday, to permit the aviation minister to attend. The minister was expected at the Wednesday hearing but was missing since she was away in Israel for a bilateral air support deal signing. The spotlight of today's hearing will be the minister's appearance. Her absence at the hearing recently angered many lawmakers who said it would be her last chance to be heard.

President Goodluck Jonathan sets up committee to probe aviation Minister, Stella Oduah car scandal
In line with the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, President Goodluck Jonathan has setup a three-man panel to investigate the N225million armoured car scandal involving aviation minister, Stella Oduah. Mr Abati said the panel will soon be chaired by the immediate past Head of Service, Sali Bello and will include the National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, and Air Vice Marshal Dik Iruenebere. The panel is to find out why the cars were bought and whether the procurement of the cars followed due process or not. Stella Oduah was conspicuously absent at today's Federal Executive Council meeting.

Subsidy committee members arraigned over gratification
Four members of the Presidential Committee on Fuel Subsidy Verification, who allegedly received gratification from the Integrated Oil and Gas Ltd., on Wednesday appeared in court on three counts.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the committee members were arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, along with three executives of the oil company, who allegedly offered them N1.5 million as gratification.
The committee members are: Buhari Ganiyu (37), Alalade Abioye (30), Oni Oluwanishola (34) and Chukwujekwu Akabueze, whose age was not stated. Alalade and Akabueze are women.
Those from the Integrated oil and gas are: the Managing Director, Anthony Ihenacho, 57; Assistant General Manager, Humphrey Nwosu, 44; and Financial Controller, Akinwusi Julius, 50.
The three of them are male.
All the defendants are standing trial for alleged conspiracy, offering and receiving of gratification.
They, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, SP Asuquo Effiong, said that the company executives, had on August 30 at the company’s office at Marine Road, Apapa, given the money to the committee as gratification.
He said that the committee members were being prosecuted for receiving the money in order to refrain from exercising their duties according to the rules.
Effiong said that the offences contravened Sections 409, 64, and 63 (1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.The magistrate, Mr Martins Owumi, earlier turned down their bail application on personal recognition, and later granted each of them bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till November 10 for further hearing.
