Chibok girls’ll be rescued soon –GEJ, OBJ, others



The Council of State, made up of former heads of government, on Tuesday held its second meeting in the year and came out with a promise that the abducted pupils of Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, would soon be rescued.
More than 200 girls were seized from the school on the night of April 14 by members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The incident has attracted global condemnation and protests. Almost 90 days in the custody of the terrorists, there have been many not-too-pleasant stories about the welfare of the girls.

I'm out of government - OBJ




Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo Thursday said, he is out of government for good. He stated this at the 2nd World Sickle Cell Day event themed 'Improving blood safety in Developing nations' organised by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. In his words, he said, "I am out of government for good. I am happy to be out of government. The Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation is charity based in London UK, established to improve human security for all in Africa.

OBJ, Boko Haram families met in Abeokuta -Sani



A Northern-based activist and President of Civil Rghts Congress of Nigeria, Mallam Shehu Sani, declared on Wednesday that the meeting between ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo and family members of Boko Haram insurgent was to open a new channel of dialogue with the sect.
He added that the meeting, which held in Abeokuta, was aimed at finding a way of releasing the abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
The activist, who confirmed to be part of the meeting in a statement in Kaduna on Wednesday, noted that the meeting was meant to fashion out a fresh understanding to resolve the crisis of insurgency bedevilling the country.

Corruption worsened under OBJ–Bakare



Convener of Save Nigeria Group, Pastor Tunde Bakare, on Wednesday said former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration raised the bar of corruption in the country, notwithstanding the ex-President’s “supposed achievements” in office.  Bakare spoke in Lagos as the guest lecturer at the 10th Chief Gani Fawehinmi Annual Lecture/Symposium, organised by the Ikeja Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association.  The event, with the theme, ‘Nigeria at centenary: A nation still in bondage?,’ was chaired by former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami (retd.).

Ex president OBJ calls for prayers over 2015 elections



Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday urged Nigerians to keep fasting and praying ahead of the 2015 elections, saying that only God has power to appoint leaders. Obasanjo said this when the National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Dr. Felix Omobude, paid him a courtesy visit in his Abeokuta, Ogun State, home.
According to him, Nigeria is God’s project and as such the nation will overcome all its challenges no matter how insurmountable they can be.

President open to reconciliation with Obasanjo –Presidency



The Presidency on Sunday said President Goodluck Jonathan was favourably  disposed to mending fences with former President Olusegun. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak,  made this known on Sunday just as  The PUNCH  gathered that the  feud between   Jonathan and Obasanjo was   adding to the worries of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The sour relationship between the duo became public knowledge in December 2013 when Obasanjo wrote a letter titled “Before it is too late” to Jonathan.  In  the letter, he accused the President of condoning corruption, training snipers, putting some persons on a watch list and engaging in other acts capable of destroying the country. Jonathan replied Obasanjo openly, saying  his  letter  was    designed to incite Nigerians   against him.

President Goodluck Jonathan again on Friday strike back at former President Olusegun Obasanjo within the 18-page page he wrote in which he accused the President of deceit, deception, dishonesty, incompetence and clannishness among others.
It would be valued that on Sunday Jonathan responded immediately  toObasanjo's letter, calling it full of lies.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has responded to the 17 page letter written to him by President Goodluck Jonathan. Obasanjo who replied through his aide, Tunde Oladunjoye during a press conference held at his Hilltop residence, Abeokuta,

Ogun State noted that pressure has been mounted on him by local and foreign media to reply Jonathan back, but he will do no such thing.

FFK Lambastes Pres.GEJ Over Reply To Ex-Pres. OBJ's Letter




An associate of Ex-Leader Olusegun Obasanjo, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has defined the response of Leader Goodluck Jonathan to Obasanjo's page as shallow. Fani-Kayode, a former minister of aviation, mentioned that during a phone meeting with a national daily yesterday while responding to Jonathan's reaction to Obasanjo's letter. He explained, 
"It is inadequate, shallow; it is inconsequential and it lacks merits. If he ( President Jonathan) is waiting for an apology from former President Obasanjo for raising fundamental questions about his administration, our nation and the welfare of our nation, he would wait forever."

APC visits Obj



Leaders of the All Progressives Congress will visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo today, punch correspondent has learnt. A leader of APC, who pleaded anonymity, told punch correspondent on Friday that some leaders of the party, including some of its governors will meet Obasanjo at his home in Ota, Ogun State.
At the residence of a former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday, former Head of State and a chief of APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, hinted that the next stop of the party’s leadership in its visits to notable Nigerians would be Obasanjo’s residence.

APC set to meet OBJ soon - Buhari



The leadership of the All Progressives Congress is to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to explain the reason behind the formation of the party. A former Head of State and a chief of the party, Gen.  Muhammadu Buhari, said this in an interview with journalists at the residence of a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Abuja on Wednesday.
Buhari said the leadership of APC had been visiting other notable Nigerians and that it was time to also pay a visit to Obasanjo.  
He said,  “We have been visiting others like the G7 Governors; we have visited former heads of state, and we intend to visit former President Olusegun Obasanjo any time he is available, to ask for understanding and brief him on why we formed the APC.”

Controversy on Wednesday surrounded a letter purportedly written by Senator Iyabo Obasanjo to her father, former President Olusegun Obasanjo. A national newspaper (Vanguard) had on Wednesday published the letter. Iyabo Obasanjo, in a chat with an international Radio Station, urged Nigerians to disregard that stupid letter as it never in anyway emanated from her.
 The former president himself was furious when approached by Vanguard, yesterday, as he hurled invectives at the newspaper. The exchange between Vanguard and the former president ran thus:

Obj Visits Jonathan in Nairobi



President Goodluck Jonathan and former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, had breakfast together in Nairobi, Kenya, on December 12, 2013, Thursday.  Both politicians were among other African leaders that graced the 50th Independence Anniversary celebration of Kenya at the Safaricom Stadium in Kasarani, Nairobi, on Thursday, December 12.

Obasanjo's visit was said to have taken everybody by surprise as it contradicts the expected nature of the relationship between both men, owing to recent public criticisms of the President by Obasanjo.

Beg Pre. GEJ , OBJ Advises G7 Govs




Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo advised the seven “rebel” governors to find a way to beg and reconcile with President Goodluck Jonathan.

The former president offered the advice when five of seven governors visited him in Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State. The governors'visited significantly less than 24 hours after a detachment of policemen disrupted their meeting in Kano State Governor's Lodge, in Abuja.

OBJ Set To Publish New Book, Vows To Reply Atiku’s Political Claim



Ex-Nigeria’s President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday said he would respond to the claims made by his erstwhile deputy, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, on their political relationship, in his soon-to-be published book.

Abubakar had, in an interview published in Hausa language by a newspaper, disclosed that he “blasted” Obasanjo over his bid to run for a second term and had argued vehemently with him on his (Obasanjo’s) bid to go for a third term.

A book titled “Baba’s Story: Nigeria Is 50″ by a Ghanaian author, Abyna-Ansaa Adjei on ex-Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo(aka Baba), is fast-selling at the moment. The 60-page hardcover book, which its foreword was written by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, is a story of Obasanjo’s origin as told by the ex-president himself. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo recently said Mrs Waziri, the former EFCC boss was a disaster to Nigeria's effort against corruption. He also questioned her qualification and said she was appointed after former Delta State Governor, Jame Ibori recommended her. You all know where Ibori is today, so you should know what i mean, Obasanjo added. Proving his point further, he said; “Go and look at the condition or the qualification; go and look at the type of interaction that anybody holding that job will have with a similar organisation elsewhere; did Waziri have that type. What connection did she have with FBI, what relationship did she have with Metropolitan Police in London. It’s not a picnic,” Obasanjo said.
