Jonathan, Osun PDP disagree on election result.

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday differed with the Osun State chapter of the party   on the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election won by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress of Nigeria.

While Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP conceded defeat to   Aregbesola , the PDP in Osun rejected the election result.

The APC candidate who is the incumbent governor of the state polled 394,684 to defeat his PDP counterpart, Iyiola Omisore, who scored 292,750 in the final results announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Bamitale Omole, on Sunday morning.

A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied directing Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State to dethrone the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade.

Tinubu said the rumour over the alleged involvement of the monarch in the build-up to the just concluded Osun State governorship election won by Aregbesola was the handiwork of “political desperadoes.”

A 20-year-old American race car driver has died after being struck by the car of three-time Nascar champion Tony Stewart during a local sprint race in New York. According to eyewitnesses, Stewart and Kevin Ward Jr, 20, had collided on a previous lap of the dirt track race on Saturday. Ward then climbed out of his car to show his displeasure and was on track confronting Stewart when he was suddenly struck and thrown into the air by Stewart's car.

1st Victim of the Ebola Outbreak Identified in Guinea

A two-year-old boy from a remote village in Guinea has been identified as the 'patient zero' in the deadliest-yet Ebola outbreak, DailyMail reports. Epidemiologists believe the boy from the village of Meliandou, Guéckédou province, suffered with fever, black stools and vomiting for just four days until he died on December 6. Seven days later, his mother died too, followed by his three-year-old sister, who fell sick on Christmas Day and was dead before she could see the New Year. Guéckédou sits by the borders with both Sierra Leone and Liberia.

The young son of an Australian jihadist has been photographed gripping the severed head of a slain Syrian soldier. Khaled Sharrouf's son, considered to be aged seven, used his hands to hoist the decapitated head up as he posed for a chilling photo. His proud father, among Australia's most-wanted terrorists and a suspected war criminal, posted the photo to Twitter on August 8 with the caption:'Thats my boy!'.Sharrouf also uploaded an image of himself posing with the  same soldier's head with the caption:'Just what a head. Just in: Spanish priest with Ebola treated with experimental serum, Zmapp

The 75 year old Spanish priest who was infected with the Ebola virus in Liberia is being treated with the new experimental drug, Zmapp, which was used to treat two US missionary doctors infected with the virus.

The Spanish government claimed yesterday that the drug was imported from Geneva and doctors have begun to administer it on Fr. Miguel Pajares at Madrid’s La Paz-Carlos III hospital where he is in isolation.  The first person to be treated with the serum, Dr. Kent Brantly, saw his condition improve after being given Zmapp.

Outrage in Missouri as 18yr old unarmed boy is shot dead by police

 18 year old Michael Brown (pictured above) was shot dead yesterday Saturday August 9th by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Michael, who had just graduated high school and hoped to begin college in the fall, was on his way to his grandmother’s house in the city of Ferguson when he was gunned down at about 2:15 p.m in the middle of the street.

Kurdish Forces Take Back Two Towns Occupied by Militants in Iraq – Reports

 Kurdish forces have regained control of two towns in northern Iraq seized by Islamic State militants, Agence France-Presse reported on Sunday.

"The Peshmerga (Kurdish fighters) have liberated Makhmur and Gwer," Peshmerga spokesman Halgord Hekmat told AFP.

Hekmat said "US aerial support helped” to liberate the towns. Representatives of the regional authorities also confirmed that the Kurdish troops had recaptured the towns following fierce battles.
Late on Thursday, US President Barack Obama gave the green light to US airstrikes targeting positions of Islamic State (IS) militants fighting in Iraq against Kurdish forces defending the city of Erbil. The President also authorized humanitarian aid to Yezidi Kurds who, as Obama stated, face “genocide.” Several airstrikes have been conducted over the past few days.

Everything that did not manage to flee to Russia or to break out of encirclement is in the process of being cooked. Yesterday, following a de-blockading strike from without, the remnants of the surrounded brigades, having gathered an armoured group and abandoned everything that could not move, rushed to break through in the direction of Miusinsk. This led to battles, in the course which the city continually passed from one faction to the other. In order to prevent the unification of two enemy groups – one attempting to break out and the other – a relief group advancing through Orlovka to the north of Enakievo – the Militia attempted to push the breakout troops to the north-east of Miusinsk.

Israel has agreed to another ceasefire in the Gaza strip and is planning to send its delegation to Egypt on Monday to continue negotiations on a final settlement of the conflict with Palestinian militant groups, including Hamas, a source in the Israeli government told RIA Novosti on Sunday.

“Israel has accepted an Egyptian initiative. If true ceasefire enters into force, the Israeli delegation will arrive in Egypt tomorrow,” the source said.

Test results of the man, hospitalized in Hong Kong on suspicion of having Ebola virus upon arrival from Nigeria, came negative, Reuters reported on Sunday, citing Hong Kong’s health department.
The 32-year-old patient was put in isolation on Sunday due to diarrhea and vomiting, which can be symptoms of Ebola, after he returned from the West African country. He is now in a stable condition, the agency said, citing the health department.

Estonia's President Criticizes Switzerland for Lack of Sanctions Against Russia

Estonia's President Toomas Hendrik Ilves criticized Swiss authorities for acting in their own interests and refusing to introduce sanctions against Russia, Sonntags Zeitung newspaper reported on Sunday.
"Switzerland must live with the criticism that it has only dispensed with its own sanctions to gain an advantage for its banking sector," Ilves told the paper.

The president did not specify whether Estonia, as part of the European Union would put pressure on Switzerland. He noted, however, that other countries that claimed to be neutral, such as Sweden and Ireland, ended up supporting the sanctions.

Wedding day tragedy: Bridegroom dies on way to church (photo)

There was supposed to be a wedding at one of the churches in Ekwuluobia Anambra this weekend. Instead, a funeral was arranged.
The 38-year-old groom, Mr. Nze- kwe Chukwuemeka Barthlomew, died just hours before his wedding vows to his bride groom on Saturday.

The late Bartholomew, a vulcanizer, died in an accident on his way to Church for his wedding ceremony in Ekwuluobia Anambra, yesterday.

Palestinians Agree on New Ceasefire With Israel - Reports

The Palestinian delegation said it accepts a Egyptian proposal for a new 72-hour ceasefire with Israel, AP reported Sunday.

"We are here to look for an agreement. We cannot have an agreement without talks, so we accepted an Egyptian proposal to have a ceasefire for 72 hours in order to resume the talks," a member of the Palestinian delegation was quoted as saying.

Earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to return his delegation to Cairo to hold talks on resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip until Palestinian militants stop rocket attacks.

"Israel will not negotiate under fire," Netanyahu said.

Russia's Northern Fleet's anti-submarine forces have detected and forced out a US submarine from Russian boundary waters, a high-ranking source in Russia's Navy told RIA Novosti Saturday.
"On August 7, 2014, the patrol forces of the Northern Fleet detected a foreign submarine, supposedly a US Navy Virginia-class one, in the Barents Sea. A seaborne anti-submarine group, as well as an anti-submarine airplane Il-38, was sent to the region to search and track it down," the source said.

Chad withdraws Chinese exploration permits

Chad has decided to withdraw five exploration permits issued to a Chinese company and press charges in a row over a $1.2bn fine for environmental violations, the oil ministry has said.

Djerassem Le Bemadjiel, Chad’s oil minister, told a news conference on Saturday that the move was “to avoid further environmental degradation, not to make place for other companies”.

The China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) was forced to suspend operations in Chad in May after refusing to pay a fine of $1.2bn for “unacceptable practices” that had led to “noxious spills” around drilling sites.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday congratulated Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State on his victory in the Saturday election.  In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said the peaceful conduct of the elections reaffirmed his administration’s determination to positively reform Nigeria’s electoral processes.

He added that the outcome of the election vindicated him from what he called unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the Federal Government for the Ekiti and Osun State elections were designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party, the Peoples Democratic Party.

Iran: Plane crash outside Tehran in kills 48 passengers and crew

48 people, including 40 passengers and 8 crew were killed this morning August 10th when a small passenger plane crashed shortly after take off from Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, the capital of Iran, Iranian state TV reports.

The plane, an Antonov An-140, designed for short domestic flights, was traveling from Tehran to the northeastern city of Tabas when it went down in a residential area. At least five children were on board the plane. Five people on the ground were burnt to death. Iran's aviation authority cited engine failure as the cause of the crash. This is the first major crash in Iran since 2011.
