This figure is contained in the details of the 2014 Appropriation Bill presented to the National Assembly by President Goodluck Jonathan through the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. The Federal Government has budgeted another N1.52b for the maintenance of the 10 aircraft currently in the PAF in 2014 and it is now set to spend just about that amount on a new one. A statement issued and signed by the Head of Service, Mrs. Josephine Oluseyi Williams, stated that the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Engr. The Presidency on Sunday said President Goodluck Jonathan was favourably  disposed to mending fences with former President Olusegun. The Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Mr. Ahmed Gulak,  made this known on Sunday just as  The PUNCH  gathered that the  feud between   Jonathan and Obasanjo was   adding to the worries of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The sour relationship between the duo became public knowledge in December 2013 when Obasanjo wrote a letter titled “Before it is too late” to Jonathan.  In  the letter, he accused the President of condoning corruption, training snipers, putting some persons on a watch list and engaging in other acts capable of destroying the country. Jonathan replied Obasanjo openly, saying  his  letter  was    designed to incite Nigerians   against him.

Crime: Woman allegedly axed her husband to death in Edo State.

Edo state Police Commissioner, Funso Adebanjo paraded 42 suspects, including robbers and other criminals among who had been one Zenab Agbontine who allegedly axed her husband to death was also paraded.

In her confession, Zenab, who allegedly killed her husband, said:

The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) yesterday in Rivers State arrested six youths bearing seven AK47 rifles around Ekporo Road on their way to Ogu.

Among them was Daniel Ibito-Anga, who parades himself and is known in Ogu Bolo as Security Adviser/PA to Senator George Sekibo (Rivers East Senatorial zone) and Evans Bipi, the Rivers State Assemblyman who was recently stopped by a court from parading himself as the Speaker of the Assembly.

In what could only be a testament to the thriving industry now known as ‘baby factories’, an investigation by Campaign for Democracy (CD) has revealed that no fewer than 2500 teenagers have been rescued from such ‘factories’ across the South-East states in the last one year. The investigations also revealed that the victims, who were mostly pregnant minors, were freed by the Police and other security agencies from the various illegal orphanages where they were detained.
