  According to the police, the victim was beaten to death by an irate mob for allegedly killing a trader, Mustapha Mohammed, on July 30, 2013.

PUNCH learnt that Ayuba and another policeman were deployed to the scene to chase away traders who had illegally taken over a portion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a suspected fraudster, Wale Olaide, aka Wale Dollar, for using a fake bank credit alert to defraud a bureau de change operator, Abdulhamid Abubakar, of N5m.

EFCC’s Head, Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspect, who was an expert in defrauding unsuspecting victims through fraudulent bank credit alerts, contacted Abubakar’s younger brother, Hashim, also a bureau de change operator based in Lome, Togo, that he wanted to purchase N5m equivalent in CFA.

WORRISOME: Man Run Over By Truck While Sleeping Under It

A middle-aged man was recently run over by a truck at Kubwa while taking a nap under it.
A witness said the victim, who was fasting, had gone to take a rest under the parked truck after observing a prayer. He said he had slept off when the driver of the truck came out to move the vehicle without knowing that someone was under it.  According to the witness, the driver initially thought it was a log of wood he climbed over but when he alighted from the vehicle, he saw it was a human being. 
He said the victim was immediately rushed to the Kubwa General hospital for medical attention.

The hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit Head, Paul Olise, confirmed the incident, but said the victim was later moved to General Hospital, Asokoro. 

US: Pastor shot and killed For Asking Neighbors To Keep Party Noise To Zero Level.

A father and pastor known for his community activism was shot and killed because he asked neighbors to keep the noise down, according to local affiliate WDIV in Detroit.
Tim Kirby, 46, was a father of four and a local pastor known for his work in the community, but on Monday night he was shot and k!lled, all because he asked neighbors who were having a party to lower the noise.

“It was devastating. I cried for a minute, and then it was like I couldn’t cry no more,” said his daughter, Tatiana Kirby. “He was a good father. He was always a caring person. Every Sunday we were always in church. He always made sure we had clothes, good clothes on our backs, food on the table.”

Whilst in their custody, embattled Rivers State law maker Chidi Lloyd claims he was blindfolded, battered and tortured by the Nigerian police and for that, he wants ₦50 billion as compensation.  His legal team made this known today after Chidi Lloyd was granted bail with a Rivers State high court. The presiding judge also ordered that the majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly should not be rearrested by the police. The case was adjourned till August 12th.

EFCC Nabs Man With 30 ATM Cards And 8 Signed Paper Cheques

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Kingsley Mudi over alleged ATM fraud. He was picked up at about 11 pm on August 2, 2013 at Fidelity Bank ATM on Airport Road, Warri, Delta State following an intelligence report. 

At the point of arrest, 30 ATM cards of different banks with which he allegedly withdrew a total sum of five hundred and fifty thousand naira (N550, 000) were found in his possession. Eight signed UBA cheques belonging to sundry persons were also found on him. Kingsley Mudi, who claimed to be a Disc Jockey and an operator of a barbing salon, has volunteered useful information.  He will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded. Wilson Uwujaren, Ag. Update: 30 Vehicles Damaged in Sunday's Abuja Clashes

At least 30 vehicles were damaged in Sunday clashes between commercial motorcycle operators and soldiers on guard at the St. Mary Catholic Church, Karu, of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.
The journalists have found out that the incident started around 1 p.m. after one of the soldiers allegedly found a dagger on one of the motorcycle riders as the result of personal search.

The man was said to have hidden the knife in his clothes and attempted to go into the church premises.

Nigerian Policemen implicated in varsity student’s killing arrested

The policemen accused of collaborating with hoodlums to kill two youths in Badagry, Lagos State, have been arrested.  They were arrested on Friday, according to the police authorities.

However, a new video made available to our correspondent identified two of the policemen as Inspector Adefemi Ashogbon, who is the station officer of the Badagry Police Division, and one Sergeant John Sonayon.  The two policemen and four other yet-to-be-identified policemen could be seen at the scene watching hoodlums beat the victims to death.

Obi playing politics with Nigeria’s unity —APC

The party, in a statement on Sunday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, said Obi’s action was dangerous.

The APC said instead of reaching out to his Lagos State counterpart, as he had done on less important issues in the past, Obi wrote an “over-dramatised letter” to the Presidency and leaked it to the media.

According to the party, Obi, by his action, has set off an avoidable friction between the Igbo and the Yoruba.

The APC added that Obi by the approach, wanted to gain an undue advantage ahead of the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.

The APC stated, “We are not saying Governor  Obi has no right to play politics, but he must fight clean and avoid any action that could hurt, not just the enduring harmony between the Igbo and the Yoruba, but also the unity of the country.

“Resorting to primordial sentiments, anytime election is approaching, is Governor Obi’s modus operandi. He did it just before the 2009 election, when he labelled the ACN, under which Dr. Chris Ngige contested, as a Yoruba party, and he is going down the same path now. This is all about the November 2013 election.

The Presidency on Sunday blasted APC leaders saying that these were not just unprogressive but also describing  them as “politically expired” politicians. However, the APC reacted swiftly, saying Nigerians knew perfectly that  most of the PDP leaders were septuagenarians and octogenarians.

APC national leaders – Chief Bisi Akande  is 74 years, Maj.-Gen. Muhamadu Buhari,70;  Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, 61  and Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, 61. The PDP National Chairman, Bamanga Tukur,  is 76; Board of Trustees Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, is 80  and Chairman, Disciplinary Committee, Umaru Dikko, is 77.

But the Presidency, through the Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said with the “politically expired” leaders in the APC, there was no way  it would be a threat to the PDP.

It  added in a statement in Abuja, that  it would be foolhardy for anyone to think that the  APC would be an alternative to the PDP.
