Warri: Trapped between oil wealth and squalor



Warri’s image as an oil-rich city and commercial hub of the Niger Delta is threatened by filth and slums, reports Chux Ohai.  Mercy Filatei lives in a small island, just behind the Ogbe-Ijoh Waterside Market in Warri. She lives with her husband and their two children. The place is called Fenigbene Camp and it is inhabited mostly by Ijaw fishermen, traders and a few boat builders.
A few weeks ago, Mercy’s husband, Timi, went in search of a job in Lagos. Like most other male residents, he was tired of earning a meagre income from fishing and living in a squalid condition at the camp.

South African Billionaire Pledges Half His Wealth To The Poor



Henry T. Heald once said; “When lack of funds prevents hospitals from functioning efficiently and fully, private philanthropy of all kinds must help. The difference it makes in terms of human betterment represents the kind of happiness that money really can buy.”
This is why Patrice Motsepe, South Africa’s first and only black billionaire has announced he is giving away half his wealth to improve the lives of the poor.
The mining magnate said the money would be handled by the Motsepe Foundation to address education and health issues.

“Having private jet in the midst of poverty is a show of wealth” – Bishop Odubogun blasts Oritsejafo




 Nigerians, especially religious leaders have not stop condemning the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, for acquiring a private jet.  Joining the league of those blaming the popular preacher for his latest acquisition of a private jet, the Bishop of the Diocese of Ife, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Oluwole Odubogun, has said that having a private jet in the midst of poverty and want is a ‘show of wealth.’
