Movida nightclub boss Akeem Sodeinde's health worsens



The popular Lagos club owner and businessman has been battling acute diabetes for a while now. He went to India sometime last year for treatment and was getting better but according to people close to him, he was hit by another crisis that has kept him out of the public for months now. Akeem no longer runs his popular club, Movida. His younger brother manages it for now.

He's retired to his Oniru Estate home and hardly ever comes out these days. People who have seen him recently said he's lost a lot of wight and he receives treatment weekly from a hospital in Victoria Island. Akeem talked about his illness sometime last year:

Brazil Nightclub Tragedy: Lessons For Nigeria




On Sunday, January 27, a fire swept through the packed, popular Kiss Nightclub in Santa Maria, Southern Brazil, killing over 230 people - enough to fill a large airliner. Brazilian authorities have said that of the 143 people still hospitalized  more than 70 are in a critical condition

The Kiss Nightclub is popular with young people in Santa Maria, which is home to a number of universities and colleges, including the Federal University of Santa Maria. At least 80 of those killed were students from that University, Brazilian authorities disclosed.

Terrible Sunday: At-least 245 killed In Brazilian NightClub Fire





Sao Paulo, Brazil 
-- A fire swept through a popular nightclub in southern Brazil early Sunday, killing at least 245 people, state media reported, citing police. 
The death toll was expected to climb as firefighters continued to pull bodies from the Kiss nightclub in Santa Maria, said Col. Adilomar Silva, the regional coordinator of civil defense.

Most of those killed appeared to have died of smoke inhalation, Silva said. Hundreds are believed to have been injured, though an exact count was not immediately available.  Many people were trampled in the panic to leave the club, one security guard tell us  The fire started "from out of nowhere" on a stage at the club and quickly spread to the ceiling, witness Jairo Vieira told Band News.
