PDP, Fayose get order to inspect electoral materials

The Ekiti Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Wednesday granted an order allowing the Peoples Democratic Party and the Governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, to inspect all materials used in the June 21 governorship election in the state.
The three-man panel, chaired by Justice Muhammad Sirajo, granted the order following an exparte application by their counsel, Dolapo Kolade, which was brought pursuant to Section 151 of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended

The panel had on July 23 granted similar relief to the All Progressives Congress which is before the tribunal challenging the victory of Fayose in the governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Fayose winner of the election ahead of the incumbent governor and candidate of the APC, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The PDP also sought an order allowing other interested party to enjoy same privilege, and an order compelling security agencies to be present at the point of inspection.

Fayemi lost but Fayose did not win.

If you are talking about results from a population of 2.3 million, with over 1.6 million eligible voters and 700,000 plus registered voters from which meagre figures totalling just about half of registered voters voted, as victories and loses, then you can have a field day celebrating or crying. But if you are really recognising the depressing reality and hopelessness of Nigeria under its current democracy, if we can use that term, then the results of the Ekiti election are a cause of consolidated grief and reason to ask – when will the people stand up?

Fayose still has a case to answer —EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has described media reports that it had dropped corruption case against the governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, as untrue.  The agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, told our correspondent on Monday that the recent election of Fayose had not affected the ongoing trial of the governor-elect at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, for alleged corruption.

Uwujaren said that the case would come up for hearing on July 15, 2014, adding that the immunity clause in the Constitution only applied to the President, the Vice President, sitting governors and their deputies, and not governors- elect.

Ex-Governor Fayose Disrespecting Jonathan ––PDP Aspirant

Mr. Dayo Adeyeye, a governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, has described the rejection of the consensus arrangement proposed by President Goodluck Jonathan to select the party’s governorship candidate in 2014 election as gross indiscipline.

“It smacks of high level of indiscipline for any aspirant to be kicking against a position openly canvassed by Mr. President, who is the leader of the party. Would such an aspirant respect the President and other party leaders if he or she is picked as the party’s candidate and he or she becomes the governor?”
Mr Adeyeye said this in a statement issued on his behalf by the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Bisi Kolawole, in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.
