Police Ordered To Arrest Sanusi, New Emir Of Kano, For “Fraud”



The Nigerian police have been ordered to arrest the newly-crowned Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, on fraud-related charges stemming from his tenure as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). According to reliable sources at the Presidency in Abuja, the team of policemen at the Emir’s palace in Kano received the order from the Nigeria police headquarters to place Mr. Sanusi under arrest if he leaves the Kano Governor’s lodge.

Ekiti State Deputy Governor's daughter's husband dies




The deputy Governor of Ekiti state, Professor Mrs Modupe Adelabu recently lost her son-in-law, Dr Oluwaseun Fasawe (pictured left). Late Dr Fasawe, a medical consultant & Chief Medical Director of Silver River Healthcare was married to the 1st daughter of the deputy governor, Dr Dolapo Fasawe ... (pictured right).

According to family sources, the late Dr Fasawe left for London on Monday May 19th for what was called corrective surgery scheduled for June 2nd. He reportedly started having difficulty in breathing on Thursday May 29th while in London and called a friend to notify him. The friend immediately called for an ambulance but sadly, while on their way to the hospital, he died. 

Fresh attacks in Plateau state, 6 dead, 2 churches razed



Gunmen launched an attack on residents of Gako and Tanjol communities in Riyom LGA of Plateau State in the early hours of this morning June 11th, killing at least 6 people and burning 2 churches.
 
Residents of the communities say five officers of the Police Special Task Force were also killed but this has not been verified.
 
Confirming today's attack, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and state Police spokesperson, Mr. Dominic Esin who spoke with Premium Times said 5 other people were injured in the attack and they have all been hospitalized

Woman brutally attacked & injured in the eye by her father




 The photo on the left shows the horrific injuries a Sikh woman suffered after being attacked by her father-in-law because he thought she was having an affair with a Muslim man.

Jageer Mirgind was left blind and scarred for life after 51-year-old Manjit Mirgind slashed her wrists and stabbed her in the eyes screaming 'I am going to kill you'.

Mrs Mirgind’s children, just three and six years old, watched the horrific attack at their mum's home in Kensington Gardens, Ilford, East London, and pleaded with their grandfather to stop. Continue...

19-Year Old Who molested Blind Grandmother Has A Case To Answer- Magistrate





A Yaba chief magistrate’s court in Lagos, yesterday, held that a teenager, Avoseh Satingo, has a case to answer in the alleged rape of an 80-year-old blind woman.

It, therefore, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody. The Magistrate made this known following advice by the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
She said the DPP advised that a prima facie case had been established against 19-year-old Satingo.

President Jonathan nominates Alison-Madueke as Secretary-General of OPEC



 Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been nominated by President Jonathan to become Secretary-General of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), when the tenure of incumbent Abdullah al-Badri of Iraq expires in December 2014, Sahara Reporters reports.
If the move sails through, Alison-Madueke will become the first female Secretary-General of OPEC. 74-year-old al-Badri has been Secretary-General of OPEC since 2007. He was also Libyan Minister for Oil and Electricity between 1990 and 2000.

There was bomb scare in Wuse area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital Tuesday. Residents woke up to see that all the roads that lead to popular Wuse market were barricaded by the police.
A policeman who spoke anonymously to us said that “Boko Haram planned to bomb the market today, that is why this market will remain closed until we are told to  leave. “
Economic activities in the market have declined since the Boko Haram insurgents bombed Nyanya bus terminus in Abuja.

About 790,000 voters in Scotland have signed a declaration in support of the independence in 100 days prior to the September's referendum. The chief executive of the official pro-independence Yes Scotland campaign, Blair Jenkins, is absolutely sure that the referendum would achieve its target receiving one million of signatures. This goal was set by the Scotland’s first minister Alex Salmond and one of the biggest supporters of the independence campaign.

Salmon said that receiving 20% of the Scottish electorate was an absolutely unprecedented case in Scotland's political life.

Iraq's second city seized by Jihadists



Jihadists overrun Iraq's second city of Mosul and string of Sunni Arab northern towns on Tuesday. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki asks parliament to declare state of emergency and announces government to arm citizens to fight jihadists and their allies. "All of Nineveh province fell into hands of militants," parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi says to journalists in Baghdad. Gunmen are heading south towards neighboring Salaheddin province, he adds.

Two Russian journalists from Zvezda TV channel recently released from detention in Ukraine plan to give testimony regarding incident at Russian Investigative Committee. "We will go to Investigative Committee now, following this press conference, where we will talk with competent agencies. We have already talked on phone, and they gave us some time, to collect our thoughts. And now we can talk calmly," Anton Malyshev, one of the two journalists, says at press conference on Tuesday.

Five US soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 'friendly fire' incident - Pentagon



Five US soldiers who are Special Operations Forces were killed in a possible friendly fire incident in southern Afghanistan on Monday, Defense Department officials say. A senior US defense official told Fox News early Tuesday that the troops were killed when they requested air support from a B-1 bomber after coming in contact with enemy forces.

Earlier Tuesday, a statement from NATO confirmed the soldiers' deaths, but did not give further details on their nationalities. Coalition policy is for home countries to identify their military dead.

Delta Airlines Lagos to Atlanta flight makes impromptu landing in Senegal




 A Delta Airlines flight going from Lagos to Atlanta yesterday June 9th was diverted to Dakar Senegal after a threat was detected up to board the flight. A traveler who tweeted about the incident said another passenger board seemed to have smuggled a case of dynamite on the plane.
 
Speaking about the diversion, Delta Airlines Director Corporate Communications, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Olivia Cullis, said the flight was diverted to Dakar for “precautionary reasons”...
"Delta flight DL55 from Lagos to Atlanta diverted to Dakar, Senegal for precautionary reasons. After a short stop, the flight resumed to the United States. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our number one priority.” She explained.

Crisis in Ukraine Update: Militia blocks about 2000 National Guard fighters at Lugansk airport



Militiamen have blocked a large group of the National Guard forces at the Lugansk airport and suggest that they should surrender, head of the Lugansk People's Republic, Valery Bolotov, told journalists on Tuesday.

"The airport is blocked. They try to launch negotiations, " Bolotov said.

Peoples Democratic Party Governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has explained why he passed under a barbed wire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport during his tenure as governor of the state.
Reacting to the picture, which went viral on the Internet, the former governor said he passed under the barbed wire because time was running out and he did not want to miss his flight.
He subsequently debunked claims by the All Progressives Congress that he committed the act in order to beat airport security and launder money.
