Stella Oduah hands over to Minister of State for Trade & Commerce, list achievements as Aviation Minister



Princess Stella Oduah has formally handed over to the Minister of State for Trade and Commerce, Dr Samuel Ortom following her sack by the President last Wednesday, February 12th. (Pictured above)

In her speech, she thanked President Jonathan for finding her worthy out of the 160million Nigerians and also listed her achievements while she was Minister. Excerpts from her speech below...

Pres. GEJ appoints new Chief of Staff - Brig General Arogbofa



  Presidential aide Reuben Abati just announced President Jonathan has appointed a new Chief of Staff a week after his former Chief of Staff, Mike Oghiadome resigned. The new Chief of Staff to the President (pictured right) was born on Nov. 10, 1952. He hails from the Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

A Lagos High court sitting in Igbosere, presided over by Justice Adebisi Akinlade on Monday February 17, 2014 sentenced Jamiu Seun Odunayo (pictured above), a former banker, to One Hundred and Fifteen Years (115) imprisonment with no option of fine over an offense which borders on fraud, stealing, and obtaining money by false pretense.

Thai protesters drop at embattled PM's Bangkok office after deadly police crackdown



Anti-government protesters in Bangkok on Wednesday surrounded the temporary office of caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the day after a police crackdown left five dead in the capital's centre.

Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary general of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), led a convoy of 200 cars to the Permanent Secretary of Defence office in northern Bangkok, which Yingluck and the cabinet have been using as a temporary office since protesters closed down Government House in December.

Twenty-five people have been killed in clashes between rioters and police in Kiev by 6 am local time on Wednesday, the Ukrainian press office said.

"Twenty-five people have died: eight of them after hospitalization in city healthcare institutions, four at an Interior Ministry hospital, 13 dead were delivered to the Kiev city clinical bureau of forensic medicine," a spokesperson said. A total of 351 people who were injured during clashes in the city center sought medical assistance, according to Kiev paramedic brigades and healthcare institutions.

Kiev death toll rises to 14, police say 6 officers shot dead



Six Ukrainian policemen were shot dead in clashes with anti-government protesters on Tuesday, police said, raising the overall reported death toll to 14.

Stoppoing US drone attacks would be a sign of weakness - Expert



The United States is planning to transform airbases in Central Asia to perform drone attacks in Pakistan. The US claimed that their main goal is Al-Qaeda destruction, but the total number of civilians killed is already about 2.500. The Voice of Russia talked to military extpert and political analyst Muhammad Aslam Khan.

Why does the US perceive its drones as an effective military solution?
It is very economical. It is a question of saving a lot of effort implementing drones for attacking each target. Another aspect is that America is pulling out from Afghanistan and most of the Western press is labeling it as a departure of the troops. But actually, the situation on the ground dictates that this should rather be called a hasty withdrawal, if not a retreat. America wants to save its face, particularly in the domestic politics, because after an over a decade battle against the Afghan Taliban there hasn’t been any clear success.

Ukraine to restrict traffic into violence-torn Kiev



Ukraine will restrict incoming traffic to Kiev from midnight to prevent the escalation of clashes of anti-government protesters with police, the government press agency said on Tuesday.

"To prevent human casualties and the escalation of conflict we ask the citizens of Ukraine to take into account that transport in the direction of Kiev will be restricted from midnight," it said.
Nine people died during clashes in Kiev on Tuesday, seven civilians and two policemen, police said.

Opposition leader Arseny Yatsenyuk asked Ukraine's President Viktor Yanukovich for a truce till morning.

The leader of the Ukrainian Batkivshchyna (Fatherland) opposition party, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has asked President Viktor Yanukovich for a truce until morning.
Yatsenyuk appealed to Yanukovich while speaking from a stage on Maidan amid a standoff between armed protesters and police.
