Lagos exemplary approach to food production



The recent disclosure by Lagos State government to expand its forays for enhanced agriculture productivity through the acquisition of farmland in Northern region of Nigeria for crop and livestock production is quite laudable and commendable. We recall that only recently the State acquired farmland in the States of Ogun and Osun as well as in the Federal Capital territory (FCT), Abuja for agricultural production. The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperative, Gbolahan Lawal made the disclosure while briefing the media on the activities of his ministry. He explained that the decision was reached owing to the shortage of arable land in Lagos State to boost food production.

Photo/Video: Iran launches mass-production of drones, sends copy to Russia.



The head of Russia's air force, General Viktor Bondarev, got an interesting present during his visit to Iran - an Iranian copy of a US spy drone ScanEagle. The drone represents "the technical capabilities of the Islamic Iran," according to The Guardian.

The Yasseer drone was provided to Russia on the sidelines of a meeting in Tehran between Bondarev and Farzad Esmayeeli, the air defense commander of Khatam al-Anbia, the Revolutionary Guards' military and industrial base.
"The drone built by the Islamic republic's Revolutionary Guards is a symbol of the technical capabilities of the Islamic Iran and today we presented a real model of it as a gift to Russian air force … and the Russian people," Esmayeeli said after meeting.

OPEC to maintain crude production ceiling



LONDON (AFP) – 
OPEC meets on Friday in Vienna and is expected to maintain its crude production ceiling, with Brent oil prices steady above $100 a barrel, analysts said, with angst over weaker demand particularly from China.
Ministers from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will convene in the Austrian capital amid demand worries linked to poor global economic growth, and with one eye on the prospect of booming US shale output.

Nigerian oil workers to suspend production if crude theft persists — spokesman



Nigeria loses billions of Naira monthly to crude theft.
Oil workers in Nigeria have threatened to embark on strike if the federal government does not curb the increased rate of crude oil theft.
The workers, members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) said on Friday that they would suspend production if the Federal Government did act to stop the menace.
The National Industrial Relations Officer (NIRO) of the Association, Chika Onuegbu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Port Harcourt.

Nigeria will be sufficient in tomato production by 2013 – Sanusi




Nigeria will be sufficient in the production of tin tomato pastes by 2013 as production of Tomatoes will grow by 1000 per cent in Kano, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Lamido Sanusi said.
Speaking at the 2012 forum of Bank Directors Association of Nigeria (BDAN) in Lagos, Sanusi said this feat was achieved from a model developed to revitalised the real sector of the economy and bring farmers into the financial inclusion programme.
