EFCC Arrests Warder For Opening Bank Account For Inmate

  A 29 year-old warder with the old Abeokuta Prisons, Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Joseph Emmanuel is presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly assisting a prison inmate in carrying out fraudulent financial transactions, as well as using the name and documents of an illiterate taxi driver, to open a First Bank account for the inmate.

The suspect allegedly assisted the inmate whom he called ‘Ora’ to open the account, using the name of one taxi driver in his neighbourhood called Monsuru Ogunsina Adeogun”. He took the step after he rejected the entreaties of the inmate to avail him of his account number.

Inmates in a prison in Numan, Adamawa State on Monday staged demonstrations against prison officials over the death of an inmate who was brutally beaten by warders.


Armed soldiers were drafted to the prison for fear that the protest by inmates could spill over into uncontrollable violence, SaharaReporters learned from a prison source as well as a security official. One of the sources disclosed that numerous inmates suffered injuries in the cause of their revolt. He added that prison officials were yet to determine if any inmates escaped in the course of the commotion.

Jim Willett remembers the night of Dec. 6, 1982, when he was assigned to guard a mortuary van that had arrived at the death house at the Huntsville prison.

“I remember thinking: We’re really going to do this. This is really going to happen,” says Willett, who was a captain for the Texas Department of Corrections.

Associated Press reports that when the van pulled away early the next morning, it carried to a nearby funeral home the body of convicted killer Charlie Brooks, who had just become the first Texas prisoner executed since a Supreme Court ruling six years earlier allowed the death penalty to resume in the United States.

What was unusual then has become rote. On Wednesday, barring a reprieve, Kimberly McCarthy will become the 500th convicted killer in Texas to receive a lethal injection.

Prison guard busted exchanging cookies for sexual favors from female inmate

A prison guard traded homemade cookies for sexual favors from a female inmate, authorities have claimed.

Abner Canda, 58, is accused of handing over the sweet treats to a 22-year-old convict locked up in Snohomish County Jail, Everett, Washington-state. In exchange, he was allowed to touch her breasts, grope her private parts and perform oral sex on the woman - named only as CD - in her cell.

In an affidavit obtained by The Smoking Gun, the alleged victim said she showed Canda her breasts "willingly for food" in May 2012. She was soon released from the jail, but returned in October 2012 - where another illicit encounter took place.

"[HE] came into my room behind me and kissed me and touched my breasts and also put his hand down my pants and placed his finger inside of [MY VAGINA]," she has stated.
