Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov

Russia has collected enough evidence to implicate Syrian rebels in using chemical weapons near Aleppo on March 19. According to Foreign Minister Lavrov, gas sarin that was unleashed against civilians outside the northern city was crudely-made as the Russian investigation confirm.

The Russian foreign chief added the results of the probe were available to all member states of the UN Security Council.

West vows to increase backing for Syrian rebels

Britain, France and the United States on Monday agreed to step up their backing for rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The three powers also agreed at talks in Paris that Assad would face "serious consequences" if he fails to comply with a UN resolution setting out a timetable for the handover of Syria's chemical weapons to international control, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said.

According to Arab media, the Syrian rebels are braced to launch an all-out offensive minutes within the widely expected American attack on the Assad regime. They are reported to be going to seize Damascus and oust Bashar Assad from power. The rebels have already amassed forces outside Damascus and in northern Syria. Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior UN diplomat said Monday.
Carla del Ponte, a member of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were "strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof," that rebels seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent.
But she said her panel had not yet seen any evidence of Syrian government forces using chemical weapons, according to the BBC, but she added that more investigation was needed.

Syrian rebels manufactured chemical weapons outside Damascus

The Syrian military have discovered a warehouse with chemical agents in a suburb of Damascus. Correspondent of the Al-Ihbariya Syrian information channel Yara Salehwho was among the journalists who inspected the site of the scary find has given an exclusive interview to The Voice of Russia. She says that the discovered warehouse was at the same time a laboratory where shells were stuffed with poisonous chemicals.

The Syrian military found chemical weapons in the rebels’ tunnel located in the Jobar suburb of Damascus. Later the Syrian state TV showed the discovered poisonous agents and medical drugs.

On July 9 Russia handed over to the General Secretary of the UN documentary evidence of the fact that it was the opposition rebels who used chemical weapons in Syria and not the government troops. The accusations of Bashar al-Assad's regime of its barbarian methods of conducting war have served for the USA and some EU countries as a pretext to lift the embargo on weapons supplies to the Syrian rebels.

Russian experts have determined that it was the Syrian rebels who on March 19 fired a missile filled with sarin at the suburbs of the town of Aleppo. The Russian documents differ from the US data on the same problem by a very important factor. The USA received its samples via intermediaries. The Russian tests were made right on the site where the ammunition exploded. The samples were tested in Russian laboratories, which are certified by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

281 casks of hazardous chemicals seized from rebels In Syria

Syrian authorities have allegedly seized 281 barrels of hazardous chemical agents from opposition militants, the country’s UN envoy Bachar Djafari told journalists on Monday.

He said 79 casks were filled with dangerous polyethylene glycol, 67 casks contained monoethylene glycol, 25 were filled with monoethanol, 68 – with diethanolamine, and 42 had triethanolamine in them.

According to the diplomat, the chemicals were stashed in a secret cache and guarded by armed terrirosts.

A Catholic priest, Father Francois Murad, (left and circled) was killed on 23 June in Gassanieh, northern Syria by jihadist rebels in front of a cheering crowd, the Vatican news agency reported yesterday. The beheading of the 49 year old priest was filmed on a camera phone and recently posted on the internet. The priest had been staying in the convent of the Custody of the Holy Land when he was seized by the rebels who accused him of collaborating with Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime.

CIA starts arming Syria rebels from Jordan stashes

Informed US diplomats and officials have confirmed that the Central Intelligence Agency has begun shipping weapons to Jordan in a move to gear up vetted Syrian rebels within a month, the Wall Street Journal reports.

 Earlier this month, US President Barack Obama authorized a covert plan that will see more arms shipments being moved to Jordan from a network of secret warehouses. These new deliveries, together with rebel training and a simultaneous push to mobilize shipments from EU and Arab allies, are timed to allow a concerted push by the Syrian militants starting by early August.

The CIA and US special forces have been secretly training Syrian rebels since last year at bases in Jordan and Turkey, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The Free Syrian Army was involved in two-week training programmes that included work with anti-tank and anti-aircraft weapons, a US official and a Syrian rebel commander told the Times.

White House spokesman Jay Carney would not comment on the report and also declined to outline what weapons the US could provide to the rebels, except to say "I cannot inventory for you all the elements of that assistance."

"The important point here is that, because of the actions we have seen the Assad regime take, we have decided to increase both the scope and scale of our assistance to the opposition, and we've been very clear about that over the last weeks and months," he said.

U.S. could Officially decide to arm Syrian rebels as early as this week - US official

The United States could make a decision as early as this week on whether to arm Syrian rebels, a U.S. official said on Monday.

The official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the question of whether to arm rebels is on the agenda of White House meetings during the early part of this week.

The possible move by the United States to arm the rebels who are fighting President Bashar al-Assad's government forces, was first reported by the Associated Press late on Sunday

A video published on Thursday showed fighters of the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front in Syria executing 11 men they accused of taking part in massacres by President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

The film is believed to be from eastern Deir al-Zor province and dates from some time in 2012, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition monitoring group.

The Observatory’s head, Rami Abdelrahman, said the Nusra Front has recently been releasing several videos of their past operations. He said the man seen executing the prisoners in the video – a Nusra commander – had been killed in March 2013 in battles with local tribes in the province.
