Late P’Harcourt doctor’s sister tests positive for Ebola





The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, has put the total number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria at 18. The 18th patient, according to the Federal Government, is the sister of the late Port Harcourt doctor who died of the EVD recently.

A statement issued on Wednesday night by his Special Assistant (Media and Communication), Mr. Dan Nwomeh, said the number of cases successfully managed and discharged was eight while the number of deaths from EVD was seven.

These Revealing Symptoms Could Mean You have the Virus (HIV Positive)



Within a month or two of HIV entering the body, 40% to 90% of people experience flu- like symptoms known as acute retroviral syndrome (ARS).
But sometimes HIV symptoms don’t appear for years, sometimes even a decade, after infection.
“In the early stages of HIV infection, the most common symptoms are none,” says Michael Horberg, MD, director of HIV/AIDS for Kaiser Permanente, in Oakland, Calif. One in five people in the United States with HIV doesn’t know they have it, which is why it’s so important to get tested, especially if you have unprotected sex with more than one partner or use intravenous drugs.

These Revealing Symptoms Could Mean You have the Virus (HIV Positive)



Here are some signs that you may be HIV-positive.
Fever
One of the first signs of ARS can be a mild fever, up to about 102 degrees F. The fever, if it occurs at all, is often accompanied by other usually mild symptoms, such as fatigue, swollen lymph glands, and a sore throat.

US athlete Tyson Gay tests positive for banned substances



US sprinter and the world's second fastest man, Tyson Gay, has tested positive for banned substances and has pulled out of next month's World Championships in Moscow.

Gay, 30, said he was notified by the US Anti-Doping Agency on Friday that his 'A' sample from an out-of-competition test in May had returned a positive.

Gay didn't reveal the substance in a phone conversation from Amsterdam on Sunday but said:
"I don't have a sabotage story. I don't have any lies. I don't have anything to say to make this seem like it was a mistake or it was on USADA's hands, someone playing games. I don't have any of those stories. I basically put my trust in someone and I was let down."
Tyson is now awaiting the result of of his 'B' sample.

300K Pregnant Women Positive with HIV Yearly_NACA DG




Out of the six million women who become pregnant in Nigeria yearly, about 300,000 are positive with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, NACA, Prof. John Idoko, revealed yesterday. This was even as he emphasized that the country remained the second most burdened with the disease globally.

Idoko made this known yesterday in Abuja during a stakeholders’ meeting on HIV/AIDS Most-At-Risk- Population, MARP, Programme Implementation and Impact Evaluation.
While decrying what he termed; “Nigeria’s slow progress” in combating the disease, he said 3.4million people are still living with the scourge in the country.
“Out of the figure, he said 1.5million are required to be on drugs based on the current health guidelines, but that only 500,000 of the population, have access to anti-retroviral drugs needed for their treatment.

I Was Told I'll Die 17 Yrs Ago - HIV Positive Nurse




Mrs. Georgina Ahamefule, is an indigene of Imo State who tested positive to Human Immuno Deficiency Virus while working as an auxiliary nurse at a certain Medical Centre in Lagos.

At first, due to her naivety, she found the whole world crashing on her, no thanks to her employer, Dr Molokwu, the Chief Medical Director of the Medical Centre who terminated her employment which began in 1989 and advised her to go back to her village and die since she had but little time.
