Akwa Ibom LG chairman Nabbed for smuggling $82,000 into the US

The executive chairman of Essien Udim local government area of Akwa Ibom state, Mr Nse Ntuen, was arrested at the BWI International Airport in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday August 16th for smuggling $82, 000 in to the US. The Maryland State Police Department confirmed the arrest yesterday Sunday August 18th, saying Mr Ntuen didn't declare the amount of money with the US custom officials. They said he only declared $5,000, just for an additional $77,000 to be found in his bag.

University Of Uyo in Akwa Ibom Shut down After Students Riot

The University of Uyo in Akwa Ibom state, South south Nigeria has been closed down following students protest over insufficient lecture venues and increase in transport charges from the town campus to its permanent site.

Trouble started on Wednesday afternoon when the students went on peaceful protest asking the university authorities to reverse its decision of increasing the transportation fare from the town campus to its permanent site at Nsukara Offot in the outskirts of Uyo from N100 to N200 per student per day.

A resident of the school community said the students, mainly of Science and Engineering faculties, went on rampage in protest against the relocation of the Science Faculty from the school’s temporary site along Ikpa Road to the permanent site.

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is to visit Akwa Ibom in next month, the Niger Delta Young Professionals, a non governmental group, has said.Facebook is a social networking service launched in February, 2004, with over one billion active users.The Chairman of the Niger Delta Young Professional, Mr Moses Siasia, made the announcement when he paid a courtesy visit on Gov. Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom on Friday.Siasia said that Zuckerberg had been invited as one of the guest speakers during his groups youth economic summit, scheduled to hold in Uyo from May 28 to May 29.
