Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola on Tuesday said his administration was creating a robust grassroots healthcare.
Fashola spoke during the inauguration of a second comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Mosan-Okunola Local Council Development Area.
The governor, who urged residents to maximise the use of the centres, said PHC facilities in the state had been redesigned to operate a comprehensive 24 hours service to boost grassroot healthcare.
He said, “These new PHCs are designed to make cases of malaria, ante-natal and child delivery a local affair while difficult cases which the PHCs cannot cope with will see such patients referred to general hospitals and teaching hospitals.”
Fashola urged other council chairmen to also partner with the government to set up flagship PHCs in their locality.
“The chairman of this council has shown leadership by understanding the importance of well being of citizens as a critical factor to serve them. Only the healthy can receive education and drive on good roads, he is a chairman who knows what is important to the people,” Fashola added.
The governor also urged the workers in the PHC facility to treat patients with courtesy and care, saying the state was keen in moving from treating people to caring for them.
Chairman of Mosan-Okunola LCDA, Mr. Abdulrashid Mafe, said the council was committed to adequate healthcare to prevent its residents from embarking on long distance journey to access health facilities.
In a related develpment, Fashola named the Ikeja Millennium Housing Estate after the former Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku.
The governor, who inaugurated the 76 units of four-Bedroom Maisonettes on Tuesday, said the gesture was to honour Anyaoku for his dedication to public service and for his great service to the nation.
