Iraq's second city seized by Jihadists



Jihadists overrun Iraq's second city of Mosul and string of Sunni Arab northern towns on Tuesday. Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki asks parliament to declare state of emergency and announces government to arm citizens to fight jihadists and their allies. "All of Nineveh province fell into hands of militants," parliament speaker Osama al-Nujaifi says to journalists in Baghdad. Gunmen are heading south towards neighboring Salaheddin province, he adds.

Journalists freed from Ukrainian detention to give testimony to investigators



Two Russian journalists from Zvezda TV channel recently released from detention in Ukraine plan to give testimony regarding incident at Russian Investigative Committee. "We will go to Investigative Committee now, following this press conference, where we will talk with competent agencies. We have already talked on phone, and they gave us some time, to collect our thoughts. And now we can talk calmly," Anton Malyshev, one of the two journalists, says at press conference on Tuesday.

Five US soldiers killed in Afghanistan in 'friendly fire' incident - Pentagon



Five US soldiers who are Special Operations Forces were killed in a possible friendly fire incident in southern Afghanistan on Monday, Defense Department officials say. A senior US defense official told Fox News early Tuesday that the troops were killed when they requested air support from a B-1 bomber after coming in contact with enemy forces.

Earlier Tuesday, a statement from NATO confirmed the soldiers' deaths, but did not give further details on their nationalities. Coalition policy is for home countries to identify their military dead.

Delta Airlines Lagos to Atlanta flight makes impromptu landing in Senegal




 A Delta Airlines flight going from Lagos to Atlanta yesterday June 9th was diverted to Dakar Senegal after a threat was detected up to board the flight. A traveler who tweeted about the incident said another passenger board seemed to have smuggled a case of dynamite on the plane.
 
Speaking about the diversion, Delta Airlines Director Corporate Communications, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Olivia Cullis, said the flight was diverted to Dakar for “precautionary reasons”...
"Delta flight DL55 from Lagos to Atlanta diverted to Dakar, Senegal for precautionary reasons. After a short stop, the flight resumed to the United States. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our number one priority.” She explained.

Crisis in Ukraine Update: Militia blocks about 2000 National Guard fighters at Lugansk airport



Militiamen have blocked a large group of the National Guard forces at the Lugansk airport and suggest that they should surrender, head of the Lugansk People's Republic, Valery Bolotov, told journalists on Tuesday.

"The airport is blocked. They try to launch negotiations, " Bolotov said.

Peoples Democratic Party Governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, has explained why he passed under a barbed wire at Murtala Muhammed International Airport during his tenure as governor of the state.
Reacting to the picture, which went viral on the Internet, the former governor said he passed under the barbed wire because time was running out and he did not want to miss his flight.
He subsequently debunked claims by the All Progressives Congress that he committed the act in order to beat airport security and launder money.

Lawmakers got ₦50m each to defect – Oshiomhole



The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said on Monday that some members of the state House of Assembly, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress, were given N50m each to sell their mandates.
The governor, who said this while addressing different groups of youths on peaceful protest to the State House in Benin, however, said his administration was unperturbed by “the defected lawmakers’ action.

2 Covenant university sisters abducted in Abuja



Two sisters, Ejura and Unekwu Opaluwah (pictured above) were kidnapped on Sunday June 8th by five armed men who stormed their house in Karmo, Abuja.

The Covenant University students were removed in the booth of a blue Honda car with number plate, HR 152 ABC around 5.00 p.m.Sunday evening after the men robbed their house of valuables. A member of family said the men then took the girls when they finished robbing the home, put them in the booth of the Honda and left with them.

UNIPORT students protest hike in School fees



 University of Port Harcourt students yesterday took to the streets to protest the recent hike within their school fees. The students engaged law enforcement but there is no violence and no-one was injured. The students vowed to carry on protesting everyday until something is done in regards to the fees. Girl Pictured dead, Neck breaks during Acrobatic Dance



An anonymous source submitted this photo of a lady who broke her neck and died at a block dance in Jamaica last weekend. The foundation told us that the young lady was performing an acrobatic dance with her head top on an audio box, fell and broke her neck. “People were shocked when she fell on her head,” the foundation told us. “A couple of guys went to lift her up the moment when they noticed her head fell way back.
