Seized aircraft in SA: CAN reacts, attacks El Rufai, Lai Mohammed & Sahara Reporters



The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, released a statement yesterday reacting to reports about the seized private jet in South Africa that implicated its National President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. CAN called out El Rufai and APC national spokesperson, Lai Mohammed for attacking Oritsejafor and Sahara Reporters for reporting in their own words 'falsehood'. Find the statement below

Dino Melaye calls for pastor Oritsejafor's arrest.



Ex-House of Reps member Dino Melaye thinks pastor Oritsejafor must certanly be arrested as he owns the private jet which was used to move $9.3million to South Africa. The cash was to be properly used to get arms. What do you guys think? Meanwhile, have you all noticed how a few of our top pastors (Pastolics/Poastopolitics.. #FreeOurSoldiers: Nigeria Military fires GOC attacked by convicted soldiers



The Nigeria Military authorities have retired the former General Officer Commanding the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Mohammed, who was simply attacked by soldiers at their barracks in Maiduguri on May 14th. The soldiers have since been sentenced to death for that action by way of a military court.
Meanwhile Omo Oodua Cable is trying to speak to a very close source to the 12 soldiers that were convicted ealier at Abuja. As soon as we compile all the information, we'll share with you.

NUT ask teachers to ignore September 22nd resumption date



Minister of Health has said there's no single confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria currently and it's safe for primary and secondary schools to resume but the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, is not convinced. Today September 16th, NUT directed its members to ignore the Sept. 22nd resumption date of schools in Nigeria.

Speaking today to journalists in Abuja, the NUT National President, Comrade Micheal Olukoya, said teachers should only resume if the government provides them with necessary preventive & protective gadgets on Ebola virus.

School resumption Saga: GEJ pleads with NUT, says Govt isn't foolish




Talking to journalists today September 16th in Abuja, President Jonathan appealed to members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT to return bck to the classrooms on Sept. 22 as there's no known case of Ebola in the Nation at the moment. Below is what he said...


"We have been able to manage Ebola and the whole world is happy with us and we must tell the whole world that we have managed Ebola and no Nigerian should be segregated because of Ebola. In fact Osun State was to have their festival and the news came to me to cancel it I said no, Ebola is no longer a threat in Nigeria and we must tell the world that we have been able to contained Ebola."

Yes, Ebola is in the West Coast, it could happen in Ghana, it‎ could happen in Senegal or any of the West African countries or beyond but they have not closed down their institutions. If we still have Ebola definitely we will not open any of our institutions but we don’t have Ebola.

CAN, firms absolve Oritsejafor of involvement in $9.3m deal





The Christian Association of Nigeria and the firms operating the aircraft that was used to smuggle $9.3m cash from Nigeria to South Africa have absolved the CAN National President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, of involvement in the deal.

They argued that although the man of God had interest in Eagle Air Company, the owner of the aircraft used to take the money to South Africa, the firm had been leased to Green Coast Produce Limited since August 2, 2014.

The Director of National Issues in CAN, Mr. Sunny Oibe, in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday said Oritsejafor was not an arms dealer.

Ebola: Film-Makers Oppose School Resumption Date





According to Sahara Reporters, ome Nollywood filmmakers earlier today held a rally in Ikeja, Lagos State to educate the public on the dreaded Ebola virus. The rally was also aimed at opposing the September 22nd resumption date for schools. Celebrities present for the rally include 'Folake Daramola, Saidi Balogun' and others. Speaking on the resumption date, Jide Kosoko, said school toilets are an eyesore that put children at susceptible ends to disease infection.

LASU don Onifade slumps, dies at LASUTH





A professor of Sports Psychology, Prof. Ademola Onifade, of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, on Tuesday died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja.
Onifade, who had been receiving treatment at LASUTH, after he slumped at his FESTAC residence on 12 September, died on Monday night.

Dr Adekunle Idris, the Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU chapter, confirmed his death to NAN in Lagos.  “The late Prof. Onifade slumped at his Festac residence on Friday night and had since been admitted at LASUTH until he died on Monday night.”
He said that the union was still in a state of shock as the late professor was hale and hearty, and did not show any sign of sickness before the sad incident.

South African president, Jacob Zuma announced today that 67 of its citizens died in the Synagogue building collapse that occurred on September 12th. Buhari’s Supporters Unveil Posters In Lagos





Barely six months before the 2015 presidential elections, posters of former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari at the weekend, flooded the streets of Lagos. The posters of the retired army general were seen pasted on pedestrian bridges as well as walls by the road sides at Yaba and Meiran areas of Lagos state, according to P.M NEWS report.

Graphic pics: Generator fumes kill man, wife & 3 children in Ikorodu



 Generator fumes has killed a man, his wife and all his 3 children in Ipoyewa community of Ikorodu, Lagos. The bodies of the family was discovered by neighbours last Friday September 12th in their home. All five suffocated to death after inhaling fumes from a generator which they'd kept in their room. According to neighbours, the man bought the generator just two days before the unfortunate incident and was afraid it will be stolen if left outside so he kept it inside his 2-room apartment.

Chibok Girls’ WAEC Results Ready – Education Minister




Nigeria’s education minister, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has told the House of Representatives Committee on Education that the results of the Chibok schoolgirls who wrote the April 2014 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams are ready.

 Shekarau made the disclosure yesterday at a stakeholders meeting organised by the House Committee on Education, on the federal government's directive to schools to resume on September 22, from the October 12 date given in consideration of the Ebola Virus Disease in the country.

According to Leadership, the minister said the results were being reviewed by the education ministry, because of the “haphazard” nature of the situation caused by Boko Haram’s abduction of some of the schoolgirls.

Hundreds feared dead as boat sinks off Libyan coast

A boat filled with up to 250 migrants heading for Europe has sunk on off the Libyan coast and many passengers have died, a spokesman for the Libyan navy has said.
Only 26 people have been rescued after the boat sunk near Tajoura, east of the capital Tripoli, said navy spokesman Ayub Qassem, 
“There are so many dead bodies floating in the sea,” Qassem told the Reuters news agency, adding that the under-equipped coast guard had few resources to search for survivors.
Migrants have been streaming out of Libya in boats in rising numbers for years, on their way to Europe.

War on Terror: Boko Haram ambushes soldiers in Kogi





About 850 soldiers shortlisted for a counter-terrorism course at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Kontagora, Niger State narrowly escaped death when they were ambushed by suspected members of the outlawed Boko Haram islamist sect.

 Four of them were however seriously injured in the incident which took place at a location between Okene and Lokoja, Kogi State on Sunday night. A security source said on Monday that the soldiers were men of the 322 Artillery Battalion, and the Fourth Brigade Garrison, Ekeunwa, Benin in Edo State. The PUNCH learnt that the 850 soldiers were expected to give fillip to the ongoing counter-terrorism operation in Borno and Adamawa states on completion of the counter- insurgency course.

12 soldiers who attacked GOC sentenced to death





A military court sitting in Abuja on Monday found 13 out of the 18 soldiers standing trial for mutiny and other offences guilty. Twelve of the convicted soldiers were sentenced to death, five were discharged and acquitted while the remaining one was jailed for 28 days with hard labour. The soldiers had on May 14, 2014 fired shots at the General Officer Commanding the newly created 7 Division of Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Mohammmed, in Maiduguri.

The act is viewed in the military as mutiny. Those discharged are David Robert, Mohammed Sani, Iseh Ubong, Sebastine Gwaba and Naaman Samuel. Jeremiah Echocho was sentenced to 28 days with hard labour. Those who were sentenced to death are Jasper Braidolor, David Musa, Friday Onuh, Yusuf Shuaibu, Igonmu Emmanuel, Andrew Ugbede, Nurudeen Ahmed, Ifeanyi Alukagba, Alao Samuel, Amadi Chukwuma, Alan Linus, and Stephen Clement.

Arms Smuggling Jet Caught With $10million In South Africa Linked To CAN President, Ayo Oritsejafor



An investigation by SaharaReporters has revealed that a Nigerian private jet caught in Johannesburg with $10 million belongs to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, the head of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). Mr. Oritsejafor is also a close confidant of President Goodluck Jonathan.

The CAN leader’s private plane with US registration number N808HG was one of two jets cited by South African officials on September 5 Mr. Oritsejafor's jet arrived South Africa with $9.3 million cash loaded in several suitcases. News of the seizure of the cash broke over the weekend, triggering questions about the ownership of the jets and weapons they intended to purchase.

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka yesterday came under attack for alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan knows the financier of Boko Haram in the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

A prominent human rights crusader and Niger Delta leader, Chief Asu Beks, who took up Prof Soyinka on the matter, asked him to hide his face in shame as he declared that more Nigerians are getting disappointed in the way the university teacher comments on critical national issues.
In an interview with Nigerian Pilot yesterday, the public affairs commentator said Nigeria does not need the ranting that emanate from sections of the country, especially as they affect President Jonathan.

Nigeria Police to Deploy sniffer dogs to help discover stuck victims at Synagogue Church crashed site.



 The Nigeria police say they'll be sending sniffer dogs to the collapsed Synagogue building site to greatly help seek out victims who're believed to be trapped beneath the rubble. By today, the death toll has risen up to 45 with 130 survivors.
