Ebola: Doctors reject September 22 schools resumption date



The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, has rejected the Monday September 22nd resumption directive given by FG to all Primary and Secondary schools due to the Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.
The NMA speaking through its National Publicity Secretary, Dr Olawunmi Layaki, said they expect all schools to remain closed until December or early next year when all Ebola suspects under surveillance have been cleared and certified free of the virus.

How I was raped by soldier for 5 hours under a tree — Student





IBADAN — A 23-year-old National Diploma, ND, student of Mass Communication Department, Ibarapa Polytechnic, yesterday, narrated how she was raped under a tree by one of the security men attached to Operation Burst set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State to check criminality in the state.

The incident was said to have happened in Eruwa from 10.30 pm on August 29 this year while she was returning after seeing off a friend.

She said she was raped repeatedly for five hours before she was let off the hook by the rapist soldier.

According to her, the soldier allegedly ordered her to climb the motorcycle while threatening to stab her with a knife.

Hit & Run driver Kills LAWMA official In Lagos





A hit-and-run driver of a jeep knocked down two highway managers of the Lagos State Waste Management Agency on Monday along Iyana Oworo Expressway in the state.
Punch learnt that although the driver managed to escape, the vehicle’s number plate fell in the process and had been handed over to security officials.It was gathered that the driver, who was on top speed, wanted to beat the traffic snarl when he rammed into the victims, identified as Lateefat Sulyman and Fatimoh Ajetunmobi.

Canada Threatens New Sanctions Against Russia Over Ukraine: Reports





Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said his country is ready to tighten sanctions against Russia in case the ceasefire in the east of Ukraine is not continued, Canadian CTV News broadcaster has reported.


“Obviously we want to see a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine. Let's give a political solution a chance. Obviously if more provocation and more negative aspects emerge, we would advocate strongly for additional measures [against Russia],” Baird said Monday following the meeting with the EU High Representative Catherine Ashton in Ottawa.

Iraqi Prime Minister Pledges to Eliminate Contradictions Between Baghdad, Kurdistan




Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi, appointed in early August, said Monday during the parliament session that one of the strategic goals of the new cabinet is to settle disputes between the country’s central government and the regional government of Iraqi Kurdistan.

Iraqi parliament session dedicated to the appointment of the cabinet of ministers was broadcast live by the country’s state television. “My government pledges to eliminate the existing contradictions with the government of Iraqi Kurdistan,” Abadi said.

US Hopes New Iraqi Government to Unite Country, Contribute to Fight Against Islamic State.





The US authorities hope that the new Iraqi government will be able to unite the country and make a major contribution to the fight against the Islamic State militants, US Secretary of State told reporters.


“Just a few hours ago, overcoming the obstacle of ethnic and sectarian divides, the Iraqi parliament approved a new and inclusive government, one that has the potential to unite all of Iraq’s diverse communities for a strong Iraq, a united Iraq, and to give those communities the chance to build the future that all Iraqis desire and deserve,” Kerry said Monday evening.

The self-evidently absurd "logic" of the EU

The latest EU decision against Russia is amazing it it's self-evident stup*dity.  The EU has adopted sanctions which will only be put into effect if the ceasefire does not hold.

First, the obvious assumption here is that should the ceasefire not hold, it would clearly by Russia's fault.  No, not the Novorussian's fault, but Russia's.

Second, apparently, the possibility that the Ukrainians might break the ceasefire was not even considered or, if it was, then it was dismissed. 

Secretary to the Borno Govt say Boko Haram has taken over part of the state





The Secretary to the Borno state government, Amb. Ahmed Jidda says Boko Haram men have taken over a considerable part of the state. Speaking to newsmen yesterday September 7th in Borno state, the SSG said activities of the sect members have paralyzed most economy, social, political and government activities in the state.
"At this very moment, most parts of Borno state are being occupied by Boko Haram insurgents. Government presence and administration is minimal or non-existent across many parts of the state, with economic, commercial and social services totally subdued. Schools and clinics remain closed. Most settlements in the affected areas in the state have either been deserted or access to them practically impossible, thus majority of the political stakeholders cannot, in real fact, reach their constituencies. So, the threat of insecurity affects everybody irrespective of political differences." .....

How Dimgba Igwe Endured four Hours Of Pain Before Death





The president, Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), Mr Femi Adesina, has stated that the late vice chairman of the SUN Publishing Company Limited, Mr Dimgba Igwe, would have survived the accident that claimed his life if prompt medical attention had reached him.

Speaking in a telephone chat with LEADERSHIP, Adesina who recounted his last contact with Igwe in a tone laden with nostalgia recalled four grueling hours the late journalist had battling with his life.
According to Adesina, who said he was a protege of the late journalist, having worked under him as a reporter in the defunct WEEKEND CONCORD, the late Igwe was initially moved to a private hospital somewhere in Isolo.

Student lost her life a few days after wishing friends a happy new month




 Just a few days after she posted a cheerful happy new month message on her Facebook page, congratulating friends for witnessing another new month, Mariam Anne Garba (pictured above) died in a fatal car accident. The Gombe State University student, died after the car she was riding in collided with another car on the Bauchi-Gombe Road, at Sharfuri village in Kirfi LGA of Bauchi State on September 6th. Mariam wasn't the only one who died. She died alongside five other students of Gombe university. The students were riding in a red Volkswagen Vento car with registration no DAL 195-Gj when the accident occurred. The students were rushed to Alkaleri General Hospital in Alkaleri, where they were confirmed dead.

War on Boko Haram: Nigerian military raid terrorist hideout in Kawuri, over 50 sect members killed






Over 50 men of the insurgency group, Boko Haram, were yesterday September 7th killed after Nigerian troops raided the sect members hideout in Kwauri, Borno state. This is based on a statement by the Nigerian military. Items recovered from their site includes Fabricated Artillery gun, Two Anti-aircraft gun, an armored vehicle and assorted forms of ammunition. Foodstuffs, hardware, personal clothing were destroyed through the gun battle. One officer and two soldiers were seriously injured.

Nigeria: 33 `Die in River Niger Boat Mishap





Minna — 33 persons said to be traders died in a boat mishap along the River Niger last week, Daily Trust learnt yesterday. Nine others were said to have been rescued by the locals along the river bank.

The boat that was carrying about 100 passengers travelling to a market in Lokoja, Kogi State from Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

It was gathered that all the corpses of the victims were recovered. The boat was said to have capsized when a pipeline patrol team boat beamed its light on the it, affecting the sight of the driver. The boat then hit a moving trunk of a tree that was uprooted by its impact and the fast moving water.

Another Ebola case confirmed in Lagos + Sister of late PH doctor discharged

Enemuo Acted like a Traditional Healer - Medical Council




If not for death, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, the country’s regulatory agency for the practice of medicine, would have disciplined the late Dr. Iyke Enemuo because he acted like a traditional healer.


Enemuo died after contracting the Ebola Virus Disease from the ECOWAS diplomat, Olubukun Koye, whom he treated in a Port-Harcourt hotel. Fielding questions from journalists in Abuja, the Registrar of MDCN, Dr. Abdulmumuni Ibrahim, condemned the decision of the late doctor to treat a patient suffering from a contagious disease in a hotel.

While describing Enemuo’s action as highly unethical, Ibrahim said it was wrong to treat a patient outside a medical facility.

September 6th and 7th Iraq SITREP by Mindfriedo: Time for government formation is running out!





6th Sep: Photos appear on twitter showing Abu Bakr al Baghdadi as having been killed in a US airstrikes. However, the authenticity of the photos and the news, which the Pentagon has denied, are being questioned:

Iraqi airstrikes and artillery strikes on hospitals in Kirkuk and Fallujah, details mentioned below, could have been a follow up of news of Baghdadi being injured and needing medical assistance or senior members of Daash. There could have been leads suggesting that he was there. Both bombings have resulted in a high number of civilian casualties. 
6th Sep: The Iraqi Ministry of Defence states that it has targeted a number of senior leaders of Daash in air strikes in Tal Afar district, west of Mosul.
