S/East APC Gives FG Knocks Over Abandonment Of Enugu Coal Deposit




The All Progressives Congress, APC, has expressed concern over the listing of Enugu State among the ‘parasitic’ states contributing nothing to the Federation Account, in spite of the massive coal deposit worth billions of dollars in the state yet to be explored.

Abuja based Cleric Predicts another Bomb Strike In Abuja, Plane Crash Concerning Govs



The General Overseer of God of Champion Royal Assembly, Abuja, Brother Joshua Iginla, has prophesied that a lower rank officer of the Nigerian Army will shoot Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, before arresting him.

According to The Sun, Iginla reminded members of his congregation of an earlier prophecy he gave about the Nigerian Air Force helicopter that crashed in the Southern part of Bama, Borno State, wherein he prophesied that there would be survivors three months ago.
The Abuja-based cleric also called on the country’s security apparatus to tighten security in the nation’s capital between today and Wednesday.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Monday urged the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the lessons learnt during the holy month of Ramadan.

Confab Report Not Ready As Leadership Postpones Resumption Date By 7 days





Plans by the leadership of the National Conference to reconvene August 4, 2014 to consider and approve the final report of the conference for presentation to President Goodluck Jonathan, has been dashed following the extension of the resumption date by one week.

Following the secretariat’s inability to conclude its work, Chairman of the conference, Justice Idris Kutigi (retd), cancelled the earlier resumption date as delegates are to resume on August 11.
The leadership, in a letter to delegates and signed by the Assistant Secretary, Media and Communications, James Akpandem, said the decision to extend the resumption date by one week was to prevent a situation where delegates would return to Abuja on August 4 and discover that there are no necessary materials to conclude the session within the time frame specified in the work plan.

Police Nab Five Suspected Armed Robbers In Delta



Officers of the Delta State Police Command have arrested five suspected armed robbers along Aladja road, opposite DSC Company, Ovwian.
The state command spokesman, Celestina Kalu, who made this known to Daily Independent, said the suspects were arrested by the Anti-Crime Patrol team from Aladja Division.
He said the officers accosted the suspects who were six in number (four males and two females) in Golf car.
Kalu said during a search on the car, one of the suspects (male) escaped while another was shot on the leg while trying to escape too.

22 Year-Old Undergraduate bags 20 Years For Kidnapping



A 22-year-old undergraduate of University of Ilorin, identified as Ebenezer Gbadamosi, has been jailed 20 years by a Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Leadership reports that the convict, who is a 300-level student, had earlier been arraigned before Justice Sulyman Kawu of Ilorin High Court, on a three-count charge of conspiracy to kidnap, threat by means of telephone/SMS to kidnap as well as attempted kidnap.
He was found guilty under sections 2, 3, 5 and 15 of the Kwara State Prohibition and Kidnapping Law, 2010 of the penal code.

3 Killed, 7 Injured In New Suicide Attack In Kano



A female suicide bomber in Nigeria’s Kano city killed three people and injured seven others on Monday in an attack targeting women who had lined up to buy kerosene, police said.

“A female suicide bomber detonated an explosive at (a petrol) station in the Hotoro area, badly injuring 10 people.
Three of them died in hospital, while seven are undergoing treatment,” Kano police spokesman Musa Magaji Majia told AFP. [AFP]

Babangida Tells Nigerians What To Do About Boko Haram





Governor Mua’zu Babangida Aliyu of Niger State on Sunday urged Nigerians to unite and fight terrorism that is currently bedevilling the country.

Vanguard reports that the governor, who is also the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, made the call in his Sallah message to Nigerians on behalf of the forum through a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Israel Ebije.

Aliyu advised Nigerians not to allow insurgency break them, noting that the country’s unity was not negotiable. He promised that government would soon put an end to insurgency.

The Lagos State commissioner for Health, Dr.Jide Idris has announced that the State has instigated a search for those on the same flight form Togo to Lagos with Liberia’s Patrick Sawyer who died last Friday in Lagos of Ebola virus.

The commissioner announced that it was mandatory in order to prevent the spread of the deadly virus in the state, which many in-turn spread across the nation.

Oil Pipeline Networks on US-Mexico Border Turn Into Murder Sites - Reports



The number of killings, beatings, kidnappings and rapes near the US-Mexico border is increasing as pipeline networks expand and new conduits are installed to handle the oil output from South Texas Eagle Ford Formation, one of the most actively drilled areas in the US, Bloomberg Businessweek magazine reported.
Thousands of miles of pipelines sprawling across southwest of US are unmonitored, because they often stretch through private properties. As a result, they become execution sites for business rivals, drug couriers and other people who just appear to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, according to Bloomberg Business week.

Hamas Accepts New Ceasefire with Israel – Reports



 The Palestinian Hamas has agreed to a new 24-hour ceasefire with the Israeli army, Reuters reported on Sunday, quoting the group’s spokesman. "In response to U.N. intervention and considering the situation of our citizens and the occasion of Eid al-Fitr festival, it has been agreed among resistance groups to endorse a 24-hour humanitarian calm, starting from 2 p.m. on Sunday," Sami Abu Zuhri was quoted as saying.


Armed Clashes in Two Largest Libyan Cities Leave 59 Dead



 At least 59 people died in clashes between the Libyan government forces and Islamist militants in Benghazi and Tripoli, Reuters reported on Sunday, citing local security and healthcare sources.
According to the agency, the clashes began in two cities almost simultaneously and continued through the entire night. Preliminary estimates show that at least 36 people were killed by militants in Benghazi with the majority of the victims being civilians. In Tripoli 23 people, including Egyptian workers, died when a house collapsed hit by a mortar round.

Female Suicide Bomber Dies In Failed Attempt To Blast University In Kano



The Nigeria police said a lone female suicide bomber died in an attempt to bomb, Northwest University in Kano around 1PM Nigerian time. 

 The female estimated to be 16 years of age, was walking suspiciously towards the gate of the university when police guarding the area spotted her, isolated her and called for reinforcement from female police officers adept at handling Muslim females.

The young woman who had a bomb concealed inside her hijab, killed herself by detonating her explosives, five policemen suffered minor injuries 

Army Bans Movement In Maiduguri During The Sallah Celebration



The Nigerian Army’s 7th Division in Maiduguri has imposed a ‘freeze’ of movement to vehicles within Maiduguri and environs. Their decision is due to continuing intelligence reports of bombing plots by a number of terrorist groups, including the Boko Haram, during the Sallah celebration in Borno state.

The Police in Kano state today July 27th averted what may have been another fatal bomb blast in the ancient city. Police operatives averted the calamity after discovering a Peugeot 406 car with registration number AA 513 ZAK, laden up with explosives at the mosque of Sheikh Isyaku Rabiu at Goron Dutse. Bomb experts neutralized the explosives immediately and no casualty was recorded.

Bomb blast hit Kano Catholic church kills 5



5 people have now been confirmed dead following a bomb was tossed to the premises of St. Charles Catholic Church in the Sabon Gari part of Kano City soon after church service around 1pm today July 27th

Confirming the incident, Mr Frank Mba, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police stated that five persons including two women, two men and a soldier securing the premises of the church were killed in the attack as worshipers were leaving the church premises after service. Others were injured
