US Website Blasts Mariah Carey For Performing In Nigeria



A popular news site, Radar Online,  is saying she shouldn’t have accepted to do a gig in a country known for ‘terror, death and fraud’. What nonsense, they can talk when the US is the number one crime capital of the world.

Mariah Carey proudly posted a pic of herself in a slinky yellow dress and wrote, “Backstage in Nigeria” on Saturday.

But maybe the songbird should have done some homework before agreeing to the gig?

Yemeni parliament passes law banning Washington drone attacks



Yemen's parliament on Sunday called for a stop to drone attacks in a symbolic vote that reflected growing public anxiety about Washington's use of the unmanned aircraft to combat al Qaeda in the impoverished country. Motions passed by the Yemeni parliament are not binding and can be struck down by the president, and are seen as no more than recommendations to the government.

"The Yemeni public is angered by the drone strikes," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to talk to reporters. "The people's representatives reflected on the tone of the streets."

Police brutality: JTF Police Officer Kills Newly Married Man In PH



Few days to the end of year 2013, another case of police brutality has been reported in Port Harcourt, Rivers State Nigeria.  Donbraye Akangbou, a newly married man has died after a police officer accidentally shot him on the stomach.  The employee of Lunberg Services Ltd located behind Coca Cola in Port Harcourt was settling a dispute when a Joint Task Force officer shot him at close range.

Nigeria Loses 250 Billion Naira Every month To Maritime Crime



Nigeria is losing about 250 Billion Naira monthly to maritime crime, an official of the Nigerian Navy has said.


Smuggling, piracy and bunkering are top on the list of the crimes described by Air Vice Marshal Eko Osim as economic sabotage.

At a seminar for the junior course 76 on how to Police the maritime environment held on Friday by the department of maritime warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, in Jaji Kaduna, Osim, revealed that crime in the territorial waters of the Gulf of Guinea has become sophisticated as the criminals keep devising various means to beat the law.

Catastrophe: Photojournalist Almost Lynched by Policemen in Lokoja for allege Bribe (Pictures)



The officers of the Nigeria Police Force went violent against a photojournalist, Okanyi Enemali, who was alleged to have taken a shot of a policeman taking bribe. The incident took place in front of the Lokoja Specialist Hospital, in the evening of December 13, 2013, Friday.
About eight armed policemen were seen beating the helpless man for about 30 minutes, until he almost lost consciousness.

Ukraine-Russia loan talks said to be on up to $15 billion - sources



Ukraine is in talks with Russia for a loan of as much as $15 billion as President Viktor Yanukovych prepares to head to Moscow after a weekend of mass protest in Kiev, two people familiar with the negotiations said.

The two sides are also discussing the price Ukraine pays for the natural gas it buys from its eastern neighbor, said the people who asked not to be identified because the talks haven’t been completed. Ukraine may receive as much as $5 billion this year, one of the people said. Russia’s finance ministry confirmed that the sides were negotiating a loan, without further details. Vitaliy Lukyanenko, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov’s spokesman, declined to comment.

EFCC Mad at Bode George, others’ release



THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has described as “unfortunate” that the Supreme Court set aside the court judgment that jailed former chairman of the board of  Nigerian Ports Authority, Chief Olabode George and five former members.  The five directors of the NPA whose sentensing was also quashed are Aminu Dabo, Captain Oluwasegun Abidoye, Alhaji Abdullahi Tafida, Alhaji Zanna Maidaribe and Sule Aliyu, an Engineer.
The apex court discharged and acquitted them of corruption, inflation of contracts and contracts splitting, for which they had been convicted after prosecution by the anti-graft agency.  George, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain, was the NPA chairman between 2001 and 2003 when the alleged offences were said to have been committed.

Importation of tomatoes from Benin Republic and other neighbouring countries by Nigerians particularly across the Seme border is on the increase following the Boko Haram insurgence in the North- East of the country famous for tomato farming. As a result, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has collected over N5million baggage fees from such imports in just two months.  A trip to Benin Republic by Financial Vanguard reporter, where tomato farms are rapidly springing up showed that the import of the vegetable has become a big business for both the producers in Benin Republic and buyers of the produce in Nigeria.

Chinese firms sign ₦117,280,000,000 ($733m) cement deal in Nigeria, Myanmar




Two Chinese firms, Sinoma and CITIC Heavy Industries, have agreed deals totalling $733m to produce cement in Nigeria and Myanmar, respectively, as they expand in emerging markets overseas.

Reuters reported that Sinoma International Engineering Company Limited, a unit of China National Materials Company Limited, signed a $536m contract with Nigeria’s Dangote Cement Plc, Sinoma and National Materials said in separate statements on Thursday.

U.S., Chinese warships narrowly prevent collision in South China Sea



WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A U.S. guided missile cruiser operating in international waters in the South China Sea was forced to take evasive action last week to avoid a collision with a Chinese navy ship maneuvering nearby, the U.S. Pacific Fleet said in a statement on Friday.

The incident on December 5 involving the USS Cowpens came at a time of heightened tensions between the United States and China following Beijing’s declaration of an Air Defense Identification Zone in the East China Sea.
