The first time Emmanuel Ifeajuna appeared before a crowd of thousands he did something no black African had ever done. He won a gold medal at an international sporting event. “Nigeria Creates World Sensation,” ran the headline in the West African Pilot after Ifeajuna’s record-breaking victory in the high jump at the 1954 Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver. He was the pride not just of Nigeria but of a whole continent. 

An editorial asked: “Who among our people did not weep for sheer joy when Nigeria came uppermost, beating all whites and blacks together?”

Their research, published in the journal Nature Communications, suggested plants were absorbing gold particles found around the soils of eucalyptus trees, Dr Lintern explained.

“The eucalypt acts as a hydraulic pump – its roots extend tens of metres in to the

ground and draft water containing the gold.

"Since the gold is likely to be toxic to the plant, it's moved to the leaves and branches where it could be released or shed to the ground.

FG denies ordering customized gold iPhones; issues statement

The Federal Government has reacted to the news that they ordered 53 gold gold-plated iPhone 5S for N682million. The report went viral after the CEO of Gold and Co., UK, Amjad Ali, told UK newspaper, The Independent, that our government ordered these phones from his firm as part of the memorabilia for the nation’s 53rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2013. We consider the reports in a section of the media claiming that the Nigerian government had ordered customized gold iPhones from a Dubai-based company to mark the country’s 53^rdindependence anniversary in October not only false and misleading, but utterly mischievous.

In September 2012, TheBlaze reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin had been grabbing up gold “as fast as he can get his hands on it.” And since that initial report, he has only doubled his efforts. “Not only has Putin made Russia the world’s largest oil producer, he’s also made it the biggest gold buyer,” Bloomberg notes.

“His central bank has added 570 metric tons of the metal in the past decade, a quarter more than runner-up China,” the report adds. “The added gold is also almost triple the weight of the Statue of Liberty.”

The Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (ANP) has congratulated the Super Eagles of Nigeria for moving on to the Quarter Finals stage of the Orange African Cup of Nations, South Africa 2013, urging them to go for gold.

ANP in a statement issued through its national secretary, Jessica Elvis urged the national team to make the country proud by moving on to the finals and bringing back the trophy.

“We want to congratulate the Nigerian National team, the Super Eagles for qualifying for the next round of the competition. We want to assure them of our usual support and partnership, we want them to bring back our lost glory in football.
