Patient Quarantined In Hawaii as Doctors Fear it’s the Next Ebola Case

An unidentified person has been quarantined in Hawaii and is currently being tested for Ebola. According to Hawaii health officials, the patient was placed in isolation after exhibiting possible symptoms consistent with Ebola. He is being treated at the Queen’s Medical Center in Hawaii. Authorities said they were being especially cautious because of heightened concern about Ebola, but the patient could have a number of illnesses. "The hospital is being very careful, as they should be, to take precautions making sure the patient is in isolation and making sure the people and the public stay safe," Dr. Melissa Viray of the Hawaii Department of Health told ABC affiliate KITV. "That being said, it's still an if. This is not a 'for sure' thing." The situation comes days after a man in Texas -- identified as Thomas Eric Duncan -- became the first person diagnosed with Ebola in the United States.

Do you know that fear and ignorance kill faster than anything? (Must read)

PHOTO: A Nigerian woman being consoled after the explosions because she could not find her children.

We Nigerians need to be armed with knowledge and correct information, we need to be enlightened so that we do not fall prey to all sorts of falsehood. If you have forgotten, let me remind you of what happened 12 years ago in Lagos on Sunday, 27th of January, 2002. There were explosions from a Nigerian Army ammunition dump filled with high-calibre bombs that were poorly-stored and ill-maintained. Following the series of blasts and fire, confusion ensued and Nigerians were running helter-skelter. In the melee, over 1,600 people died, most of them running into the concealed Oke Afa Canal, many of them were children scampering for safety. As Nigerians, we need to take information dissemination seriously because as you can see, it is a matter of life and death.

Fear and Loathing in Nigeria

Nigerians seem to have relatively short memories. We forget the atrocities committed by public officials almost as soon as they leave office. However, every administration has had hate figures that were resented for one reason or another. In the First Republic, it was the minister of finance, the late Festus Okotie Eboh, largely on account of his lifestyle.
