“The president of Nigeria is president for everybody. He is the president for the over 170 Million Nigerians and he is the father of everybody. So, every Nigerian has the right to see him, on matters that are either of private concern or anything that affects the nation. So, my coming to visit the president was purely on personal grounds. Yes, there is this issue that I might join the PDP, but that was not the discussion that brought me,” he said.He also suggested that to end insurgency in Borno State and contain the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, a perfect understanding of the terrain and political knowledge of the state was necessary.
Speaking with state house correspondents after the meeting, Sheriff claimed he is a strong politician in Borno.
Asked to further on why he was abandoning his party, the APC, Sheriff said, “Our interest should be on what makes the nation move forward.
My decisions will be guided by the interests of the nation first. My thinking of moving to the PDP is also in the interest of the nation. We believe that every time, as a leader who leads people, you should advise them on the right course of action.”
