2105: Kaduna PDP Okays Jonathan, Yero

President Goodluck Jonathan has received the endorsement of the Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2015 election.  The incumbent governor, Mukhtar Yero, also received the nod of the party to contest the polls in the state.  But Vice President Namadi Sambo and two members of the party from the upper chambers of the National Assembly, Senators Ahmed Makarfi and Nenadi Usman shunned the town hall meeting of the party held at the Murtala Mohammed Square, on Saturday, where the decision was taken.

An elated Yero while commending the stakeholders for endorsing him to contest the 2015 governorship election in the state, said there was never a time when himself, the vice president, and other party stakeholders had met to say he would not contest the 2015 poll.

He said, “As a firm believer in God I would remain where God had kept me.”

Yero pledged to continue from where the late governor of the state, Patrick Yakowa had stopped, explaining that for those who always claim to be “Yakowa boys”, he remained the number one Yakowa boy because he was first be given an appointment by the late governor.

The motion for the endorsement was moved by a former Zonal Secretary ( North-west), Baba Aliyu while the Zonal (North-west) Public Relations Officer of the party, Husseini Dembo seconded the motion.

There was a dissenting voice, a former Commissioner for Justice in the state, Mark Jacob who told newsmen shortly after the event that it was one thing to endorse a candidate and another thing entirely to translate the “endorsement into votes.”

He added that the endorsement does not take the place of the constitutional requirements of party primaries.

Also, at the event, the state Chairman of the Association Local Government of Nigeria and Chairman of Kagarko Local Government Council, Danjuma Akuso, leading other Chairmen of the party from the 23 councils in the state said the President and the Governor deserved re-election in 2015.

Akuso noted that council chairmen had not had it so good under any administration compared to what they are witnessing now under Yero. He then ordered the delegates to give the governor a standing ovation.

Similarly, the state’s House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, said the governor had done his best by offering the good governance, noting that it was turn on the lawmakers to reciprocate the gesture by endorsing the governor for 2015 election.

Members of the party from National Assembly led by Hon. Adams Jagaba said the PDP was the party to beat in 2015, assuring that no member of the party in the House of Representatives from the state would defect to the main opposition All Progressive Congress again.

He said anybody with the conviction that the party would lose Southern Kaduna in 2015 elections should perish the thought.

Jagaba added that ahead of the 2015 polls, the lawmakers, especially, those of them from the Southern part of the state would embark on house-to-house campaign to ensure resounding victory for the party in 2015.

On her part, Minister of Environment, Mrs Lawrencia Mallam, from Southern Kaduna, said people from the zone are not aware of any party except the PDP.

She also allayed the fears that the party would lose the zone in 2015, saying “we in zone three don’t know any other party apart from the PDP. We should have no fear because we in Southern Kaduna, especially in Zango-Kataf don’t know any party except PDP.

“Those who have problems in their areas should resolve it. We should all go back home and preach PDP to our people. There is no broom in Southern Kaduna.”
