Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has shut out any surprises in the expected list of players to be invited for the team’s pre-World Cup camp. He has categorically said that there is no room for fresh legs in the Super Eagles as he will rest his faith in the squad he has been building in the past two years.
Speaking in Abuja, Keshi said that it would be needless to tear an already established team apart by including fresh faces, just for the purpose of satisfying the yearnings of ‘some people’.
“We have been trying to build a team since the past two years when I came on board, so I don’t see any reason why we have to tear the team apart by looking for newer faces to make some people satisfied,” Keshi said.
Keshi however added that being a member of the 2013 Nations Cup winning team is not criteria for selection, as he is only going to select the best legs from the pool of players currently available in the team
The former coach of Togo and Mali stated that Nigeria’s World Cup campaign is not a person assignment, but a national and continent project, as his team are poised to bring glory to Nigerians and Africans in general with their performance at the World Cup in Brazil.
“We have a pool of players already on ground, and all that we need to do is to continue building on that, but it doesn’t mean that if you were in the team when we won Nations Cup that you must be in the team to the World Cup.
“If I see anybody better than you, I will take him. Sorry it is not for me, it is for the country and for Africa because we are going there to defend Africa, to defend Nigeria and to defend our pride. So there are a lot of things at stake and I will not negotiate for that,” he added.
