Nigerian police force: are they really bad people ?

The Nigerian Police remains one of the very widely hated, despited and scorned institutions in Nigeria. Its officers'tales of corruption, extrajudicial killings, harassment of innocent citizens, general ineptitude and crass unprofessionalism has turned what's said to be Africa's premier police right into a laughing stock.
That said, not these are bad. Some Nigerian police officers are indeed very spectacular and fine professionals.

But is it possible to blame them, they're not well looked after; they have no insurance want to look after their family if they die on duty, their senior officers embezzle all their entitlements. They're not adequately equipped to face contemporary armed robbers (who have God fathers behind them ). Would you probably blame them for looking for additional income however they can.
