Soldiers numbering about 20 allegedly stormed the General Hospital Ore, in Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo state on Wednesday afternoon, attacking the staff.
According to report, the soldiers allegedly invaded the hospital because the management rejected the corpse of one of their colleagues who lost his life at a peace keeping mission in one of the Northern states. The corpse was brought on Tuesday night with the intention of depositing it in the hospital's morgue but the hospital management said the mortuary was already congested and there was no more space to keep the corpse.
The soldiers were said to have assaulted the nurses, doctors and others on sight and many of them sustained injuries. The Chief Medical Director(CMD) and other Senior Staff of the hospital reportedly went into hiding for fear of being attacked .
When contacted, the State Police Spokesman, Wole Ogodo, said he was not aware of the incident.
The Army Public Relations(APR) unit of the 32 Brigade Command, Owena Barracks, Akure, could not be reached for comments.
However, a high ranking officer in the command, denied the allegation saying, "the Nigerian Army of nowadays are more disciplined and civil to commit such crude acts," adding that it might be society miscreants who used army uniforms to perpetrate evils.
