A young woman in Maryland in the United States has been arrested after allegedly killing 2 of her own children.
Zakieya Latrice Avery is said to have stabbed all 4 of her children, with the 2 youngest ones, aged 1 and 2, succumbing to their injuries.
One-year-old Norell Harris and two-year-old Zyana Harris both lost their lives after their mother attacked them and their 2 siblings aged five and eight were also injured during the incident.
According to The Mirror reports, a mum accused of stabbing two of her children to death thought she was performing an exorcism, according to police.
The children, aged one and two, were found with multiple stab wounds and are thought to have been attacked as they slept in their beds
Two of their siblings, aged five and eight, were also hurt and taken to hospital, and 28-year-old mother-of-four Avery has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
A second woman, 21-year-old Monifa Denise Sanford, has also been charged with the two deaths, and is believed to have lived with Avery.
Police came across the gruesome scene after being called to a report of a car left with its door open and a knife lying outside.
The keys were still in the ignition, and the vehicle was covered in blood.
Sky News reports that officers believe the youngsters were killed as they slept in their beds
Detectives had been at the address just the night before, after a call about a child being left alone in a car, but the youngster had been taken inside by the time they arrived and no one answered the door.
A memorial service was held near the crime scene this weekend, as shocked residents tried to comprehend the tragedy.
